Moorland School in Lancashire are offering service pupils a week of adventure this October. The academic institution is running a free holiday camp for military children. Activities will include football, swimming, circus skills, basketball and a cinema visit. Even meals and boarding are taken care of. Headteacher Jonathan Harrison says: "we are delighted to be able to offer these weeks for the Children of Military Parents. It should be a fun packed week which the children will enjoy and remember." One hundred years since the Somme Offensive a new book recounts the acts of bravery & heroism during one of the bloodiest battles in human history. Author Paul Oldfield came up with the idea for the volume when he led a battlefield tour during his thirty-six-year army career. The battlefield companion is thorough account of each VC action, along with the wider strategic context, accompanied by detailed sketch maps of the battle-lines and movements of the combatants. Tickets for Troops is expanding the gigs and events it offers to the Armed Forces community. The service distributes passes to a variety of sporting, musical and cultural events to serving personnel and those medically discharged from the forces since 2001. Catterick Garrison has hosted a big night of Army boxing. Units from all over the UK assembled at the Leisure Centre for the gala evening. A new national project is being rolled out to support veterans with PTSD. The Peace Education Programme is a free ten-week workshop helping ex-service personnel deal with past traumas and in turn enabling them to function in civvy street. A team from 2 Signal Regiment have competed in the first ever Micklegate Run soap box race in York. The drinking water onboard a warship is quite different to your usual tap water. So a Portsmouth based company created by former Royal Navy Officer Andrew Gadsden has created a special blend of tea specifically designed to taste great with the water produced onboard a RN ship. A crime fighting quartet from the Highlanders have helped foil a bank robbery. The Army recruiters from 4th Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland chased down chased down a man who snatched a purse from a woman at a brand of RBS in Inverness. The soldiers were involved in some public engagement on the High Street when the incident occurred. Military families in Catterick Garrison have enjoyed some quality time together at the welfare summer fete. The biker branch of the British Legion showed off their motorcycles, the Royal Military Police let youngsters get hands on with their kit and there was a chance to giving zorbing a try. The world's number one trick shot maestro comes to the garrison this weekend (Sat 30 July 2016). Catterick Golf Club plays host to a man Lee Westwood describes as "simply the best". David Edwards is a former European Tour player and top of the game when it comes to golfing entertainment. British Forces Resettlement Services are staging a careers event for the military community in Lincolnshire. The jobs fair will be held at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre on Thursday 14th July between 9am - 2pm. Nearly 2000 vacancies from a range of different sectors will be on offer. His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, Royal Colonel of The Highlanders, 4th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland visits Bourlon Barracks in Catterick Garrison. It's the first time that His Royal Highness has visited the Battalion in its new barracks in Catterick since moving from Bad Fallingbostel, Germany in July 2015. The Duke of Edinburgh inspected the ranks of the Quarter Guard, provided by the men of Alpha Company. After a quick stop for a Battalion photograph, Prince Philip was guided around several Company presentation stands. Catterick Garrison remembers those who fell at the Battle of the Somme - one of the bloodiest battles in human history. On July 1st 1916 there were over 57,000 casualties as men climbed out of the trenches, went over the top and advanced across the fields of France. The parade at Vimy Barracks began with a deafening boom to signify the preceding artillery barrage.
