Something More With Chris Boyd Show Podcasts

Chris is joined this week by frequent show contributors Mike Burton of Slade Mortgage and Herb Montgomery of The Montgomery Financial Group, as well as by special guest Peter Gianakoulis, a local appraiser. Chris welcomes Kurt Czarnowski, Social Security expert, back to the show on this week's Something More. Kurt talks about what has changed in Social Security and Medicare in 2013 and offers some strategies for maximizing your social security benefits. Author Felice Cohen talks about her book, What Papa Told Me, in the "something more" segment, and also offers some pretty interesting organizational tips, based on her experience of living in a tiny NYC apartment. Mike Burton offers mortgage tips in his Mortgage Minute and Chris discusses gun control and Governor Patrick's proposed tax increases in the show's second hour.

Chris also discusses the challenges facing investors in the short-term, in light of slow GDP and near-term worries, compared to the long-term perspective portraying market valuations as reasonably attractive.

With one month until the elections, the program started with a discussion with State Rep. Randy Hunt as he discussed his priorities to make more efficient use of tax revenues aimed ultimately at saving the tax payers of Massachusetts money, and identifying possible ways to make existing services more effective at their goals.  Reforms of EBT card use, income tax collection, and addition treatments for non-violent criminals using drugs are his top 3 legislative priorities for next term.  After the first half hour, Randy raced off to the Sen. Scott Brown rally being held in Hyannis.   As this weekend marked the close of Financial Planning Week, Chris discussed the merits of financial planning in all stages of life.  He expressed his thanks to the Centerville & Falmouth Public Libraries for hosting events for the Financial Planning Association during the week. In the first of our new longer format, Chris Boyd was joined by his guest co-host, Atty. Susan Huettner, whose specialty involves family law.  They discussed both the markets and economic conditions at the end of the third quarter, before discussing tips on what mistakes to avoid when dealing with a divorce.  These tips were helpful, though, for anyone as most were just good financial planning awareness priorities.   The conversation turned to politics as callers weighed in on concerns over the Fed's policies, public sector pension obligations, and the challenges of being caught in the proposed reforms facing entitlement programs like Medicare.  The show concluded with a discussion of whether or not the depection of the attack on the Libyan consulate as "spontaneous" was a deliberate deception by the Obama administration for political gain to maintain the narrative of a strong foreign policy experience and a diminished al-Qaeda.
