  • Seeing Jesus | In the Wisdom of a King

    31/07/2021 Duración: 33min

Check out our Weekly Viewpoint ► https://southviewchurch.com/viewpoint Find us on Instagram ► https://www.instagram.com/saccalgary/ Find us on YouTube ► https://www.youtube.com/c/SACCalgary   We often read the stories of the Old Testament and think that they are primarily “morality tales”: Obey God like Moses did. Don't be like Jonah. Be courageous like Ruth. Be less like drifting like Samson. The reality, though, is that the primary purpose of the great Old Testament narratives is not to improve our morals, but to reveal the living God to us. The Old Testament features authoritative theological teaching, but often in the form of stories, thereby teaching in the form of real human experience. In this series, we will explore stories of laughter, bitterness, bravery, doubt and power. We’ll examine wayfinders and signposts along the way that point us toward God. And we'll foreshadow the coming of Jesus.

    19/12/2020 Duración: 23min

Do you ever come to the end of Christmas and think, “Well, . . . that cost way more than I expected!” This message focuses on the cost of Christmas. Not merely in monetary terms, but in the impact and challenges that are always present at Christmas and in the Christmas season - including at the first Christmas in Bethlehem.

  • Preparing For Jesus | Ruth

    05/12/2020 Duración: 31min

When tragedy and sorrow strike, we often feel that God is far from us. We feel as if we’ve been abandoned. However, this Advent the story of Ruth reminds us that God offers hope to the hopeless. At the close of one of Scripture’s bleakest chapters, we get a glimpse of God’s mercy and faithfulness. The story of Ruth ultimately points us to what God has done for us through Christ our Redeemer. We have been brought from death to life, from despair to hope. This week: Call to Worship: Advent Week 2 Collect Songs: O Come O Come Emmanuel / Way Maker Peace of Christ Advent Reading: Love Community Life & Giving with James Wheeler Call to Listen Message Text: Ruth 1:8-17; 4:13-17 and others Benediction

  • Preparing For Jesus | Tamar

    28/11/2020 Duración: 26min

At the start of his Gospel, Matthew opens not with a description of Jesus’ birth but with a genealogy. What Matthew is doing is, he’s saying, “You can’t understand the birth of Christ, you can’t just jump right to the Christmas story, unless you first look at the family tree of Jesus.” During Advent, then, we are going to focus in on four quite unexpected, even shocking, women who are named in Jesus’ genealogy as a way of better understanding who Jesus is and what He was about. This week: Call to Worship: Advent Week 1 Collect Songs: Send Me Lord / Come As You Are Peace of Christ Advent Reading: Hope Community Life & Confession with Jon Kurtz Call to Listen Message Text: Matt.1:1-3, Genesis 38 and others Benediction

Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality." Romans 12:9-13

  • Transformed | Spiritual Gifts

    03/10/2020 Duración: 27min

Much mystery surrounds the spiritual gifts, and it often leaves us in confusion. We ask, “What is my spiritual gift? Should I take an online quiz to find out? What are spiritual gifts for?” In this message we are reminded that each of us are uniquely gifted to strengthen the faith of those around us.

  • Transformed | How Should We Then Live?

    19/09/2020 Duración: 28min

Romans chapter 12 is a turning point in the book of Romans. In the previous chapters the main emphasis in Paul’s letter has been why we need a Savior and how we can receive new life in Him. With Romans 12, though, Paul begins to deal with how a follower of Christ is to live out the new life they’ve received in Christ.

  • When We’re Searching For | The Harvest (Psalm 85)

    05/09/2020 Duración: 32min

Over the summer we’ve looked at a number of Psalms that have highlighted everything from our identity in God’s presence to how the psalmist relates to human suffering in a variety of ways. The promise of a harvest, of God's fruitfulness made manifest is a familiar theme in the Psalms but it also finds expression in the Gospels. In this message, the question of “who gets sent out into the harvest?” finds an answer in a Samaritan woman Jesus meets at a well.

  • When We’re Searching For | Identity (Psalm 8)

    15/08/2020 Duración: 31min

If you have ever asked the question "who am I?" or if you've ever struggled with your identity and understanding of who you are, then hear and reflect on the words of Psalm 8 which places us and our identity in the context of the wider creation, and in the heart of our Creator.
