What happened in Laura Ingalls Wilder fandom during 2020? It was Carrie Ingalls 150th birthday so lots of things were planned, but with COVID almost all of them were canceled. Laura people became another kind of pioneer, a digital kind. Two of three pageants created digital content and Alison Arngrim (Nellie Olsen) went online by reading to us. Then the "American Masters - Laura Ingalls Wilder: From Prairie to Page" debuted and set off another round of online discussion. Come along and tell us all about it.

I did one episode about this trip with everyone and thought that would be it. However, since about the middle of July my schedule has been unpredictable and I had time this morning so I thought I'd go ahead and talk about my trip by myself. However, to get other people's reactions be sure to listen to my big group episode on it. I'm going to talk about the schedule why we set it up the way we did, what didn't work, what did, why and what I want to do next time.

The COVID pandemic has moved a bunch of conferences online. How are online conferenes different from live ones?  Are they worth it? What are they like? Should you attend?

This summer we only have one Laura Ingalls Wilder event scheduled this summer and it was on August 1st at the Little House on the Prairie Museum site in Independence, KS. Then we'll check in on what events are still scheduled for this fall at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home and Museum in Mansfield, MO. After that we'll check in on the online activities this summer especially the online pageant episodes in De Smet, SD and Mansfield, MO. 

A lot happened last year because of the big anniversary, but there's still interesting stuff going on this year. Since this is late we'll go through some of the big events this year and what we're still looking forward to. Whether you're interested in the TV show, the museums, or books, there is a lot going on. Each day she reads two chapters complete with delightful commentary. She not only reads, but goes through explaining her take on the series, explaining things, asking questions, and sharing about her life. Join us with guest Bob Miller of the United Church of Christ. Laura and Almanzo Wilder were Congregationalists. The Congregational Church is no longer a stand alone organization, but it is one of the denominations that have been combined into the United Church of Christ. Rev Miller talks with us about the history of the church in Laura's time.

Laura Giannarelli is an actress who also reads books for the National Library Service. The National Library Service for the Blind Print Disabled is a part of the Library of Congress that provides materials for NLS "for people with temporary or permanent low vision, blindness, or a physical disability that prevents reading or holding the printed page. NLS works to ensure that all may read by providing eligible patrons access to NLS materials regardless of age, economic circumstances, or technical expertise." Giannarelli has narrated many books that are available as part of their service for people with eye sight problems. Of most interest is her reading both the "Little House" books and Pioneer Girl. Join me as we learn about this important system, how Giannarelli got interested in Laura, and how she went about this entire project.

"You always get your just desserts when you insist on Jell-O" Lynne Belluscio of the LeRoy (NY) Historical Society tells us about the history of Jell-O. Gelatine desserts were long the province of the wealthy, but American ingenuity lead to an instant version of this once time consuming treat. What does LeRoy, New York have to do with Jell-O? How was Jell-O invented? What does Jell-O have to do with LeRoy today?

Today we're going to celebrate World Read Aloud Day by reading part of Mother West Wind's Children by Thornton W. Burgess. We're picking up from our 10 minute episodes last year where we were testing microphones. This time our story is "Why Peter's Ears Are Long." 

There was a lot going on during 2019. There were a lot of things going on. The "Little House on the Prairie" Cast Reunion and the Laura Ingalls Wilder conference lead the list on my social media of what people thought were the biggest events. We also have things going on with "American Masters," "Little House on the Prairie: The Musical," and lots of stuff at the homesites. Check out what happened.

I finally got 5 of the 6 people from our trip together to interview about our last trip. Chime in as my mom, my brother, my niece and nephew, and me talk about our trip to Walt Disney World during late January 2019. We talk about where we stayed and our time at the park, our favorites, and what we learned. We stayed at Pop Century, visited all four parks and Disney Springs, and had the DVC tour.
