High Falutin Ski Bums

This ski season is going to be like no other. With all the new restrictions and protocols. It's not going to be a year to wing-it and chase powder. With the 2020 election never ending, the real question is, will skiing be great again this year? Well, we speak to our buddy Tom from Ober Gatlinburg where the hills are alive with snow!

What to do, what to do. In our attempt for full ski-bummery Mario and I have been informed that we are both working full-time remote until at least April. If we need to stay on the east coast, where do we go?

It's an understatement to that there's so much uncertainty in the world right now. Whether it's covid, the US Presidential election or how La Nina will affect ski & snowboard season, so much is up in the air right now. We've been so overwhelmed, we couldn't even come up with a real topic. Don't worry friends, the snow has already started to fall and we're going to find a way to get through this.

As if 2020 hasn't had a large enough swath of destruction. Last week it was announced that our beloved Powder Magazine is going to be shuttering in November. Why did this happen and how are we responsible?

What is ski season going to be like this year? It's a good thing we already have facemasks and goggles, because resorts are starting to announce their requirements to ski and snowboard this winter. One thing, for sure, it's not going to be the chill experience we're used to, but at least we'll be on the snow.

We have the honor of speaking with Benjamin Alexander, who is attempting to be Jamaica’s first alpine skiing Olympian. He has an unbelievable story that we think you will love to hear.

It's impossible to find a skier or snowboarder who hasn't been inspired by the work of Warren Miller. A recent documentary has just been released about Warren and his incredible life, including conversations with Warren conducted shortly before his passing away in 2018. We had the pleasure of interviewing three folks who instrumental in the making of the film, Director Patrick Creadon, Producer Jeff Conroy and ski pioneer and Warren Miller film star Dan Egan.

As skiers, summer always sucks. 2020 has also been a special sort of awful for most people with the potential for WW3, the pandemic, the looters, the riots, then insert your own personal hardships. One thing we have to remember is that we're all in this together.

With the past ski season cut short and the upcoming season being planned, we have a chat with our friend Anelise from Ski Utah.

In these crazy times, we all could use a little something to take the edge off. Imagine being able to go back in time and tell your high school self that marijuana would be recreationally legal in almost 20% of states and roughly 50% for medical, it would've blown your pimply, hormone-overloaded mind! Mario lives in one of those fine states and just got his medical card and tells the story.

It's a crazy time now with the panademic, riots, police violence, job losses and whatever else happened between me typing this and when this gets posted (I think something from outer space is coming out way...makes sense). It's hard to understand when we should talk about skiing again. I guess the answer is today, since that's what we're going to talk about.

The virus, the quarantine, the riots, whatever happens tonight, it's all kinda crazy right now. Everyday you wake up and have no idea what new unthinkable thing is going to go down today. Two of the only things that has remained "normal" during the past few months has been beer consumption and podcasting. With that common ground, we chat with Jon and Harrison from Drinking Socially - The Official Untappd Podcast.

What would you tell a younger version of yourself if you could? We don't currently have that option, but we do have a friend, Mike, from Get Stoked Productions and Till I Die. He's only a college sophomore, but he's skiing, biking and hustling to create the life a lot of us sellouts can only dream about. We chat with him, give him terrible advice and hear about who he's working with and what he's working on.

Life under quarantine has been rough for us skiers and snowboarders, who would much rather be out on the slopes. Some folks are finding ways to stop feeling sorry for themselves and finding ways to help others. One of those people, is our buddy Steve who helped his company pivot to making hand sanitizers to help hospitals and essential workers.
