Eternal Faith - Audio
24/08/2020 Duración: 29minAbraham, part 2. Faith that is willing to sacrifice one's life for God, e.g. Healthcare workers especially during this pandemic risking their lives by faith... Abraham did not directly sacrifice his own life, but was ready to obediently sacrifice his only son Isaac, who was his bloodline, and as such indirectly like his own life. Abraham's faith allowed him to trust God's promise, and risk everything he hoped for. How was he able to do this? Abraham's faith is based more on the character of God the Promisekeeper than the promise itself. 1. Abraham believed in God's character. Abraham received God's promises (v.17) in his life, so had evidence of God's trustworthiness in the past. 2. Abraham believed in God's plan for the world, a plan bigger than himself. Totally believed the promise that through Isaac, Abraham would become a nation (v.18), and a blessing to the world. 3. Abraham believed that God had resurrection power, to raise Isaac from the dead (v.19), (eternal perspective). Main idea: Eternal fa

The Challenge of Faith - Audio
16/08/2020 Duración: 38minAbraham and Sarah, part 1: Abraham stepped out in faith, not knowing where he was going. e.g. Stephen Shellnut is going to Radius... he is stepping out in faith. Because of the promise of eternity, stepping out in faith and leaving everything behind is the only option that makes sense. Sarah is a great partner to Abraham in their faith venture. e.g. Rana has been a great partner to me in our own missions venture.

Having Difficult Conversations - Audio
20/07/2020 Duración: 26minMany are asking, "How do we have those difficult talks about racial justice and racism with, say, my parents?" Well, like with a lot of things, it starts with relationship. Jesus modeled for us how to do it with the Samaritan woman in John 4. From his example, we should proximate, change the narrative, keep the hope, do uncomfortable things (from Bryan Stevenson, Just Mercy). 1. Proximate: get near to the issue, make it personal, engage in conversation, vv.4,7. 2. Change the narrative: speak truth to counter the lies and deflection, vv.16-17, 20, 26. 3. Keep the hope: living water (v.10), eternal life (v.14), , Messiah (v.26), opposing racism is hard, so keep on hoping, or easy to give up. 4. Do uncomfortable things: Jesus went into Samaria (v.4), speaks to a Samaritan woman (v.9), received dismay of disciples (v.27); opposing racism will get you out of your comfort zone Main point: Difficult conversations are hard, so leverage relationship. Isaiah 1:17.

God is Anti-Racist - Audio
05/07/2020 Duración: 25min1. God created men and women in His image, and on the 6th day he said it was very good. We are ALL human and should see each other as such and as equals (Gen 1:27). God is also a creative God, so he made us diverse. Heaven will be a place filled from every nation, tribe, people and language (Rev 7:9). 2. But sin entered the world, and mankind developed pride, "I am better than you." Men and women looked at certain people groups and said, "You are not equal to us." Discrimination can be based on skin color, language, race, ethnicity, gender, faith, etc. (Biblical example of man's discrimination and systemic racism, Acts 10:9-16, Acts 15:1-19, God's warning not to call certain people unclean when God has made them clean, which helped Peter to later speak against the Judaizers requiring Gentiles to be circumcised like Jewish Christians, to be qualified into faith) Historical and current example: US Declaration of Independence says "All men are created equal." But depends on how

Mission to Jonah - Audio
22/06/2020 Duración: 29minThe big idea for this message is to walk through what the Bible teaches about God as a Father. Most Christians are familiar with this concept but perhaps they have forgotten how radical it is. For me, I constantly forget about my new standing before God (won for me by Jesus) as son-to-Father. And when I remember it, it always gives me a jolt of grace. The three points for this message move to unpack what it means to relate to God as Father. 1. We do not relate to him as a servant does his master (utilitarian) but as a child does her father (intimacy, favor, access). 2. He disciplines us. This is a principle for the rest of the sermon series... The implication here is that God loves us enough not just to tell us the things we long to hear but also the things we don't! 3. God the Father desires all of his children (of all races) to be at peace with one another. This is something that most people want, but ultimately this is what God the Father desires for all his children.
