  • 20200119 message - Audio

    19/01/2020 Duración: 51min

Context: Jesus is having one last meal with his closest friends. Knowing that his life is coming to an end, He gives them one last teaching. (v.15) Why do you think it’s necessary for Jesus to say - if you love me you will obey my commands? Is it possible to love and not obey? Is it possible to obey and not love? (v.16) How do you respond to Jesus when he says (on your behalf): I will ask the Father and He will give you another Helper. Do you feel the need for a helper? How does the giving of the Holy Spirit relate to loving and obeying Jesus? Based on this passage what does the Holy Spirit do? How does he help? (v.22-24) Lastly, how does Jesus answer Judas‘ (not Iscariot) question about engaging the rest of the world? How does this teaching personally apply to you? How does it apply to us as a community?

  • Good News, Bad News - Audio

    12/01/2020 Duración: 40min

When someone comes to you and says, “I have Good News, Bad News,” which do you prefer to hear first? When Jesus was having supper with his disciples in the upper room, he had “Good News, Bad News” for them. The “Bad News” was Jesus was leaving them soon. Upon hearing this, the disciples became troubled. To comfort the disciples, Jesus had 3 astounding statements of Good News for them (and for us today): 1. Location, Location, Location. “I go to prepare a place for you.” (v.2) An eternal room in Heaven with God. 2. Jesus the Standard. “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” (v.6) Jesus is the way to follow, the truth to believe, the life to hope for. 3. Supernatural Power. “If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” (v.14) Promise for answered prayer to accomplish greater works than Jesus’.

What would you do if you knew you only had one more day to live? Why is it important for us to know for this narrative that Jesus was aware of his power and true identity (v.3)? How did Peter respond to Jesus washing his feet? How would you have responded? When Jesus says “you also ought to wash one another's feet” (v.14) what does he mean practically by this? How is verse 34, the commandment to love one another, a new command? Application: Who’s feet are God calling you to wash?

Today hypocrisy is accepted to be a simple reality of modern life. Sadly Christians are not exempt from being viewed as hypocritical. Hypocrisy, if not dealt with honestly, can become a serious problem. From story of woman accused of adultery in John 8:1-11, 1.Hypocrisy breaks our relationship with God.  (v.6) 2. Hypocrisy hurts people.  (v.3-5) 3. Hypocrisy undermines our witness and outreach.  (v.2) Overcoming hypocrisy, to love others like Jesus: 1. Starts with self-reflection.  (v.7) 2. Means having no condemnation for others like Jesus.

Today is the start of a new series, and we are calling it the awesome wonder of Christmas. Really it’s about worship. And the big idea is that we are looking at the Christmas story but we’re not focusing on the Nativity characters, except one. What does the Christmas story reveals to us about God, about who he is and what he’s like? And I am convinced that if we take a really good look at the Christmas story, like a really good look, it will cause us to do something maybe we haven’t done for a long time- be filled with awe and wonder, it will make us just go – wow! Now let me start here: How important would you say it is for us to be in awe and wonder of God? Like how important would you say that is? If I’m honest, there is a part inside me and maybe inside you that’s kind of like- Who’s got time for that? Like last week, as I’m preparing for this message, I was feeling like, I’m too busy to be in awesome wonder of God. I have a tu

Have you ever wished that God would hurry? God’s sense of timing confuses us; His grace rarely operates according to our schedule. Jairus did not know something that Jesus did. What did Jairus not know? Notice that Jesus does not explain to Jairus why the delay, but simply says, Do not fear, only believe… Jesus says that the girl is sleeping when it is obvious that she is dead. Why?
