Solomon, the writer of Proverbs 23:7 says: "You are the sum of your thoughts." As transformed people of God, Paul commands us to be changed not only in our attitudes and actions but also in our thinking!

Our world, our culture, our families of origin often think striving for success is good: in our education, in our careers, in sports, even dare to say "doing church". Yet this sincere thinking can be sincerely wrong. For Christians what is true success for us? In Philippians 3 Paul redefines success and shows us how to find true joy. "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." (Phil 3:14) Stop striving and start thriving!

We examine the very heart of the book of Philippians, Jesus' example of humility. The entire book of Philippians rotates around this key message. Where would unity come from? Where would relationships be mended? Where would there be light to share with others? Jesus' example of humility set the perfect example to follow, and in it we discover something much deeper: a unique understanding of who Jesus actually is.

"Jesus told his disciples, “I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!” (John 15:11NLT) As Christians we are apparently to be joy-filled people. However do followers of Jesus Christ really know what true joy is; even to overflow in difficult times? The Apostle Paul shared with the early Philippian church how this could be: for Christ’s sake, joy lived out. “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21NIV)"

In this most transparent prayer, Jesus shares his heart with the Father and then willingly submits to the hard road of the cross. What better way to pray than to model the prayers of Jesus. The classic Lord's Prayer found in Matthew 6 sits in the middle of what many consider Jesus' greatest message, "The Sermon on the Mount". Jesus' disciples eye witnessed His life and ministry (i.e. healing the blind, lame and the sick) But we don't hear them asking Jesus "teach us how to heal" but rather "Teach US to PRAY." Why? What was so special about the way Jesus prayed? Today, through examining the prayer life of Jesus in the Garden, we gain invaluable insight into having a deeper relationship with God as we follow His prayer examples!

Perfectionism. Who doesn't want perfection? The perfect steak, perfect health, perfect spouse, perfect church. Perfectionism can be regarded as a noble pursuit, but when taken to an extreme become toxic and harmful to oneself and to others. Honestly no one is perfect, except Jesus. Paul tells us in Romans 15:1-7 ways we can overcome the dangers of perfectionism. "Accept one another...as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God." (Romans 15:7) Spiritual blind spots: - Self-reliance - Avoiding conflict resolution - Inward focus - Busyness - Material affluence - Perfectionism

Everyone is naturally inclined to be proud, but humility and mutual submission should be evident in the lives of all believers. With certain "Blind Spot" indicators to alert our surroundings for church unity, there is one Blind Spot that is readily unrecognized - Pride. Conclusion: If you don’t build up a habit of putting Jesus first, you won’t be able to be in the Lord when conflicts arise!

“Blind spots” are areas that you cannot see but should. And they’re not just physical but also spiritual. We all have them, both individually and corporately as a church. The effects of not dealing with our blind spots can be devastating. But God has a plan to deal with them. For 6 weeks we will look at CLC’s blind spots (self-reliance, inward focus, conflict resolution, busyness, material affluence, and perfectionism) and learn what the Bible teaches to correct them.

Gift giving does not end after Christmas. We have a God who is loving and generous year round. Our Heavenly Father who gave the world His Son Jesus offers the Gift of New Beginnings to anyone interested, anytime, anywhere. That is the great hope we have in Jesus Christ. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" (2 Cor 5:17)
