Do you think it is possible for there to be an "invisible gorilla" in how we see the Great Commission? God has called you to enjoy His _______ AND to extend His _______ to the ends of the earth. Living with Integrity We all have places in our walk with God where we know and say one thing but do another. We all have inconsistencies, and these inconsistencies if ignored, have tremendous power to ruin our lives. A question we must ask that will save us from wasted life and regret: • Is there any part of my life that is ____________ with my _____?

Introduction: Do you find your spiritual life lacking joy? Do you feel the daily grind of trying to be a “good Christian”? Is your faith stagnant and not going anywhere? You might be suffering a disease called Legalism. Grace cures us of this. Grace revives us. Legalism is living according to your own rules out of your own strength to earn God’s favor.(from David Platt) In Galatians the Apostle Paul addresses this issue: 1. Grace means we live by God-given rules, not man-given rules. (v.1) 2. Grace means God rescues us, instead of us being self-sufficient. (v.4) 3. What two themes emerge from Acts 1:1-11? The P______ and the M______. The main idea of this message is that the latter without the former leads to scary obligation. Our society loves to idolize celebrities for their good looks, for their fame and fortune. Sports figures get adulation from fans for being winners, especially MVP’s. Sadly this behavior can creep over into the church. We like certain Christian leaders and preachers for the same reasons we like rock stars. We are influenced by the externals as opposed to more importantly what is in their hearts. Jesus faced this same problem when he made his triumphant entry into Jerusalem. He was not everyone’s idea of a King. Yet he was truly Israel’s MVP. Like the crowd, do you ever wish Jesus was a different kind of King? If you choose to make Jesus your MVP, he will help you live a fruitful and fulfilled life as God intended. Jesus as Most Valuable Player as seen in Matthew 21:1-11, 1. We have a problem with motivation... (Life is not about what we have, but what we do with what we have.) Is this passage saying: FAITH + WORKS = SALVATION?? Rather, it is saying: _____ = _________ + _____ In short, it is saying that Faith _____. How can WE respond to this message?

What is the number one thing that keeps you from receiving what you have asked for in prayer? Be a person who prays for things (that are worth praying about) and doesn't give up (until you have an answer from God). What is wrong in your world that is worthy of crying out to God for? Don't lose heart. Keep on praying until God gives you an answer, trusting in His wisdom and goodness. If persistence is enough to get an unjust judge to answer, then HOW MUCH MORE... What would you do differently on Monday if you really believed this? What would happen if you persisted in prayer and didn't lose heart?

Nurture this habit and it'll change your life Three Ways to nurture this Habit (taken from Tim Keller's recent book on prayer) : 1. "Make every pleasure into a channel of adoration" C.S. Lewis 2. Learn from the "collects" of Thomas Cranmer's Common Book of Prayer a. The address - a name of God b. The doctrine - a truth about God's nature that is the basis for the prayer c. The petition - what is being asked for d. The aspiration - what good result will come if the request is granted e. In Jesus' name - this remembers the mediatorial role of Jesus 3. Praising the Attributes of God (see enclosed handout "31 Ways to Praise")

The people of God are people of prayer. God is looking for followers who ask shamelessly, and are helpless in attitude. There is no prayer request God can’t handle. So don’t limit God. From Matthew 7, Jesus tells us how to pray: 1) Relational, active, dynamic (v.7-8) Ask with voice, Seek with eyes/mind, Knock with our fist. Progression from “Ask to Knock” gives impression of urgency, persistence, and power. 2) An answer to our “big asks” seems to be guaranteed. (v.7-8) Warning: it may not be the answer we are looking for. Why bring prayer requests to God? 3) God, our Heavenly Father, loves us so much that He wants to give us what we need. (v.9-11) It’s first about relationship, and then answered prayer. What are we to pray for? 4) Love others by interceding for them. (v.12) We are to “

The Sabbath was made for people (not people for the Sabbath) Greg Beale's conclusions 1. First, the seventh-day commemoration is Gen 2:3 and Israel's Sabbath ordinance is transferred to the first day of the week because of Christ's resurrection. 2. Israel's way of observing the Sabbath, with all its detailed requirements, falls away, and there is a return to the creational mandate. The observance of this mandate is a day of commemoration of God's creative rest, a celebration that Christ has entered that rest, that believers have begun to enter such rest, and a pointing forward to believers completely entering that rest. God gives Sabbath as a gift; it's an island or get-to in a sea of have-to.   THE DIVINE RHYTHM 1.
