No one is perfect on their own merit. We will all make mistakes, but Jesus paid the price for past, present and future sin. Our sin is not counted against us once we have been Made Right. We are made righteous and perfected in Jesus forever. Does that mean we are free to continue sinning? No, but we can purge our conscience when we make mistakes. God does not want us to be conscious of sin. Self-righteousness blinds us to the fullness of the blessings of grace, to the full access of God’s righteousness, because we are focused on our own efforts to bring about change. When we see our inability to earn favor and humble ourselves enough to seek God’s help, we can fully be Made Right.
