Like the plot of a classic Frank Capra movie, a frequent guest on Whiskey Business returned to the podcast with for a different reason.  Our friend, Bill Demora, aka The World’s Most Superstitious Buckeye Fan sat down with us this time as the now Honorable William P. Demora, Ohio Senator.  Find out how this all happened and while honored to have the elected position why our friend wants everyone to know “he’s still, Bill.” Referring to himself as “the accidental Senator” it’s a position he’s humbled to have and does not take lightly. Jim Canepa, the Superintendent of Ohio Liquor Control, once again joined Whiskey Business for an overdue visit to talk about where things are at with liquor in Ohio and I’m pleased to say our glass remains full and then some.  A job that was supposed to last 6 weeks for Jim when initially asked to “fix” a few things for the state, has fortunately become a permanent position and Ohio is better for it.  Ranking 4th behind much larger states like California, Texas, and Florida, Ohio continues to step up its game.  The visit with Jim is always informative but always fun as he also brought some whiskeys that were NOT bourbons that bourbon lovers would most likely embrace in a big way. OVER THE LIMIT(what you should know about breathalyzer machines and getting pulled over for drunk driving) Whiskey Business kicked off the year with guest “Super Lawyer” Jon Saia and his vast knowledge of OVI laws and the technology of the breathalyzer machines that amazingly can work for AND against you. EVEN IF YOU HAVEN’T had a drop of alcohol! Everyone metabolizes alcohol differently. Dino had 7 shots of Jack Daniel’s and blew under the limit. John Whitney nursed a drink and a half and almost blew OVER the limit. Greg Hansberry, who is doing a Dry January, ate 2 pieces of Wonder Bread and still registered on the machine. How? Why? What?!!!! The fascinating information is in this first podcast of the year with the big takeaway message being, DON’T DRIVE DRUNK. Whiskey Business went “dry” for only the second time in our history of podcasting, tossing a nod to those giving Sober September a shot and accommodating our guest, Jeff Gage who’s made a decision to stop drinking as well.  Good, hot coffee was served and provided the opportunity to discuss those times when drinking didn’t turn out so well. We’ve all been there. There was humor in the stories but also lessons in the mix as well. Sometimes it’s good to take a step back and see where you’ve been with booze and more importantly where you are. Hindsight CAN BE 20/20, but only if you able to see it. Ok. We’re taking some liberties with the title of this week’s podcast, but not with our guest, Coyote Peterson.  The YouTube phenom and creator of Brave Wilderness graced us with an an amazing podcast that traced the roots of his success, the future of his wilderness enterprise and a few stops in between which include becoming crocodile snacks, Big Foot, the REAL dangers of his work and how what he does is so much more than just being bitten or stung by some bug, spider or creature.  And if everything goes to plan, Coyote may actually be taking Dino down a path that will force the Whiskey Business host to face a huge fear and phobia. You Never Forget Your First…Your first tattoo, that is. This week Whiskey Business went to TAT FRANKLIN and Dino got his first tattoo at 63 years of age and the whole procedure and conversation is on this podcast in real time, accompanied by a bottle of Master Distiller #1 from Jack Daniel’s (after I signed the paperwork granting permission.) Granted, Dino’s first tattoo wasn’t too elaborate or too intricate but it was appropriate: the molecular formula for whiskey. Mat picked out a cool manual typewriter font as well and Dino collects manual typewriters, so there was a lot of serendipity going on with this procedure. Columbus Blue Jackets beat reporter, Jeff Svoboda joined Whiskey Business to talk hockey, hope and “here we go again”as the NHL Draft and Free Agency has commenced.  The late breaking news before we started talking was the acquisition of Johnny Hockey! Johnny Gaudreau is now a Blue Jacket and we talked about the impact that could have on the franchise. Whiskey Business consisting of Dino Tripodis, Greg Hansberry and John Whitney, voluntarily went down their own rabbit hole this week talking about the Paramount Plus limited series THE OFFER.  It’s the 50th anniversary of the film The Godfather and The Offer tells the story about how one of the greatest films in history almost did not get made at all.  The boys separated the fact from the fiction, indulged in their favorite performances, and even attempted some bad impressions of famed producer, Robert Evans.  The Offer is Godfather candy and we ate it up. Whiskey Business enjoyed another visit from Pete “Whiskey Pete” Wagner, Ambassador for Brown Forman, as we talked about and tasted the first two NEW expressions from Jack Daniel’s in 25 years. And they’re here to stay! Two great bottles: Jack Daniel’s Bonded and Jack Daniels Triple Mash are a couple of 100 proof future favorites for Jack fans and anybody who likes whiskey.  Pete, of course was funny and informative and hinted (but could not confirm) some other future Jack news that we’ll just have to wait and see about. Whiskey Business had a rockin’ good time with Amee Belwanzo who is part of TRASHETE, a band consisting of Amee and three other moms who write and play original music.  Music being a huge part of her life since she was a kid, Amee talked about how the band started and has changed through the last decade and how it feels to be “back out there” doing what she loves and now shares with her daughter as well. Whiskey Business finally nailed down a conversation with comedian Kenny Mock, who’s been touring with fellow comedian and Tik Tok phenom, Jason Banks. To quote Jason, “Yeah, Kenny is getting too funny. He’s making my job harder.” One of the best compliments one comic can give another. The usually quiet and private Kenny opened up quite a bit with Dino, Greg and John and still kept bringing the funny as we covered family, life, how comedians source their material and if there’s such a thing as “unintentional racism” in these complicated politically correct times.  A great conversation accompanied by a bottle of Yellowstone Hand Picked Single Barrel made for great podcast that begs for Kenny Mock to return for another round of Whiskey Business.  Learn more about your ad choices. Whiskey Business was thrilled to have one of the best movie bloggers in the business, Marc Heuck from The Projector Has Been Drinking (and so much more.
