But what do we pray for when we pray for others? What do we ask God to give them? Are all people God’s natural children? On the one side, God is the Creator of all people. On the other side, not everyone is a natural Child of God. The concept of being God’s adopted kids is unique to the Christian faith and it prompts us to proclaim to all that Christ Jesus, the Creator of everyone, can also become a father to all who believe. On Father’s Day Sunday let’s take a deeper look at this unique privilege all the disciples have: to be adopted by God, to be his heirs, and to be invited to sit at the Lord’s table as members in the family of God. Ruth 1:1-5; 4:13-17 This Sunday is a special time when we are reminded of our mothers. We're going to look together at an Old Testament survival story of a Jewish mother-in-law, Naomi, and her Moabite daughter-in-law, Ruth. In their story God shows his providential care for Jews and non-Jews alike during a devastating famine and the untimely death of loved ones. I Get a New Body - 1 Corinthians 15:25-44 Some of us love our bodies. Some of us hate our bodies. Some of us don’t think much about our bodies. Romans 6:9-11; 2 Corinthians 5:17 Christians make a big deal out of Easter Sunday. We celebrate and sing and put out flowers and talk about new life. We declare that we have hope and joy. Easter is a great Sunday. But what difference does Easter make on Monday? Does anything really change because Jesus rose from the dead? That's the question we're asking again this morning. Mark 15: 33-34 We are told that Jesus was crucified at about 9:00 in the morning. For the first three hours the day was like every other day but at noon, things changed. We're told that darkness covered the land for three hours. We’ve been following Jesus on His journey to the cross. We’ve focused on His interactions with others and how they responded to Jesus. Have you ever imagined how the perfect person would look like? What would his character be? What about his physical appearance? The journey to the cross takes us this morning in the presence of Pilate. He is debating with the Jews whether to release Jesus, who is not guilty, or Barabbas, a terrorist. "Behold, the man!" says Pilate. ECCE HOMO! is in Latin! Luke 23: 1-12 What do you want from Jesus? Both Pilate and Herod have things they want from Jesus - answers, miracle, signs.
