Genesis 11:1-9 The Tower of Babel The German philosopher Karl Marx wrote in 1844 that "Religion is the opium of the people," further advancing the idea that religion is a means of mass control and not a way to establish a relationship with the divinity. His ideas were fully fleshed out in the two ideologies that overshadowed the 20th century, Nazism and Communism. However, from the beginning of time human beings have tried to build their own ideal society and religion. John 9Jesus ran into a lot of challenges in his life. He dealt with people who were blind or lepers, prostitutes or tax-collectors, angry or depressed. Where he seemed to face his greatest challenge was with the folks who were convinced they knew it all—those who knew what God wanted and didn’t want in every situation. We can read this a couple of times and still find ourselves pretty confused. Genesis 4: 1-16All of us have high expectations for our kids, especially when they are first born. But, what do you do when your first born is break bad? In Genesis 3:15, God promises Eve that her seed/son will be 'the deliverer'. Genesis 3:21-24Last Sunday we talked about how nothing works the way it’s supposed to work in our world anymore. We don’t do what we’re supposed to do, the world around us doesn’t work right—there’s cancer and pain and death, and our relationship with God is off kilter. God has every right to just let us go.
