K-LOVE's Peter Kaye speaks with Dave Bengyak of Buffalo Adult and Teen Challenge about his own struggle with addiction and how their faith based 9-12 month program helped him to break the chains of addiction. Now that the schools have closed operations for the summer, Venture Church of Encinitas, Cal. is making a difference in family’s lives. The church itself has become the summer food pickup location. In the parking lot, “We have a team of volunteers, with the food already bagged, ready to go. So the people come through, and they pop their trunk – they don’t even have to get out of their car – they pop their trunk and our people put the bags of groceries in trunk and then they’re free to go,” explains Pastor Troy Martin. ‘We really want to be Jesus to the community.’

By Richard Hunt When it came to share about the pandemic, Rock Church Associate Campus Pastor Becky Aniversario tell us, "Kids pick up a lot more than people realize and so it's really wise just to get ahead of these difficult conversations before they start getting information from other places. She's concerned that many sources kids might find COVID-19 information "are probably not going to be pointing them back to Jesus." it's important that the conversation be age-appropriate and "we tell them why their regular routine, such as going to school, visiting with friends, visiting with family - why all these things have been interrupted." Above all, Pastor Becky says it's important "to share the hope with have in Jesus." The church kids also encouraged local heroes – first responders – including police.

Events that began in Minneapolis have reverberated around the globe in widespread outrage. Pastor Lance Hahn, who is white, called his longtime friend Bishop Parnell Lovelace who is black. "What can we do?" he asked the reverend. "Help me understand."

Alaska Junior Theater was born 38+ years ago when residents observed there was very little theater, dance and entertainment available for Anchorage youth. As the city population has grown, so has the outreach and now includes kids from Mat-Su valley. Each year the theater runs 5 major productions and more than 40,000 Alaska children participate. K-LOVE's Monika Kelly has a fun chat with Gig Harbor, Washington's "Lasagna Lady," Michelle Brenner. Michelle decided to start making homemade lasagnas after being furloughed from her job. She's since made more than a thousand lasagna's for medical professionals, neighbors, seniors and for anyone who asks for one. She plans to keep making them and showing love, one lasagna at a time.

By Richard Hunt There is often an expectation of divine perfection in pastors, but Cody Barnhart emphasizes ministers are very much human. He agrees that pastors need people they can share struggles with, confidentially. “Most pastors absolutely need those people to open up to and I think most pastors don’t have them. I think many pastors, especially the ones I know, I’ve talked to personally, are afraid that they may lose their jobs or be perceived as weak leaders if they share something that is kind of too far for people to feel comfortable with, especially if it’s about some of these bigger issues” like suicide and depression, “intrusive mental health struggles.”
