This week's show is packed full of goodies for all you geeks out there. If you're a gaming geek, we have our rundown of our experienced at the PC Gamer Weekender, including lots of VR, some great indie games, and triple A titles. If you're a film & music geek, we have an interview with composer Darren Morze, who talks about his latest film his latest film, Sidney Hall, starring Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson) & Elle Fanning (Super 8, Maleficent), and directed by Oscar winner Shawn Christensen. Darren worked as a musician and sound engineer, touring world with acts such as The Killers, Jane's Addiction, Placebo, and US indie band Stellastarr*, which is where he met their lead singer Shawn. When Shawn decided he wanted to make movies, Darren began scoring them for him, including the movie Curfew, which not only won the Oscar for 'Best Live Action Short Film' in 2012, but also has won over 40 other awards. We are back for episode 101, and if you're a gaming fan, we have a huge treat for you! Along with all the usual tv chat, news and air date information, this week's guest is somewhat gaming royalty. Hitman's David Bateson, the voice of Agent 47 himself! David is a South African actor, born to English parents who now lives in Denmark. He’s worked across film, tv and theatre, but what we know and love him best for, is his voice work as Agent 47 in the long running Hitman video games. He has voiced the character since it’s inception in the year 2000, and, as far as we can tell, he is one of the longest serving voice actors in gaming history. We got to talk to him about his work, how the character has evolved, and some of his favourite scenes in the games. Not only do we have a run down of our Pick Of The Pilots from the US, but also a great interview with Cinematographer Todd McMullen. Todd has worked as the cinematographer for a wide range for shows, including Sky Atlantic's The Leftovers, Aaron Sorkin's brilliant The Newsroom, the US version of Prime Suspect, and Friday Night Lights. His latest tv project was as Director of Photography for Netflix’s horror/comedy Santa Clarita Diet, starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant. Todd also worked as cinematographer for Walking Out, starring Matt Bomer and Josh Wiggins, which premiered at Sundance. This tells the story of a father and son struggling to connect as they have a brutal encounter in the wilderness that changes everything. We're a little bit late this week, but to make up for it, we have a brilliant interview with Barry Robison, the Production Designer for the 6 x Oscar Nominated Hacksaw Ridge! HACKSAW RIDGE is the extraordinary true story of Desmond Doss (BAFTA winner and Golden Globe nominee Andrew Garfield) who, in Okinawa during the bloodiest battle of WWII, saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, killing was nevertheless wrong. As an army medic, he single-handedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers and was wounded by a grenade and hit by snipers. Doss was the first conscientious objector awarded the Congressional Medal of Honour. We return for our second episode of Geektown Radio in 2017 with lots of tv news, air date info, and another great interview for you! This week, we chat with Line Producer Shea Kammer, who has not one, but three films coming to the Sundance Film Festival this week, out of the sixteen in contention! The first of the three in competition is The Yellow Birds, starring Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!, Young Han Solo) and Tye Sheridan (X-Men, Ready Player One), about two young soldiers, navigating the terrors of the Iraq war under the command of the older, troubled Sergeant Sterling (Jack Huston - Boardwalk Empire, American Hustle). The second is To the Bone, which is the feature directorial debut of the brilliant Marti Noxon (Buffy, Angel, UnREAL, Mad Men, Glee... and many more!) Welcome back to Geektown Radio, and Happy New Year! We return from our holidays with the gift of a new podcast, and an interview with the Creators/Writers/Directors of BBC's wonderful comedy Uncle, Oli Refson and Lilah Vandenburgh. Uncle is back for a 3rd and final season on BBC3 & BBC1, so we got a chance to catch up with Oli & Lilah one again for a chat about the new series. As long time listeners will remember, we've interviewed Oli & Lilah a few times before, both for Uncle, and Lilah on her own when she co-wrote an episode of The Flash last season. This time around, we talk about where we find Andy (Nick Helm) & Errol (Elliot Speller-Gillott) this season, how it feels ending Uncle, and what comes next for the writing/directing duo. In our final show of 2016 we have the usual TV News, UK TV Air Date information, and an interview with the very lovely Maude Hirst from the Amazon Prime Video & History Channel series VIKINGS. You may recognise Maude from her role as Kat Ashley in The Tudors, but more likely you’ll know her as Helga, wife of Floki in the brilliant Vikings, which airs on Amazon Prime Video and the History Channel in the UK. She is a graduate from London’s Italia Conti school, and founded Tuppence Films, which specialises in producing work with strong female leads, including the 2013 feature film, Smoke. She also recently starred opposite Nico Mirallegro (The Village, Rillington Place) in a short film called The Knock. In the interview we discuss working on Vikings, her thoughts on Helga and Floki, working with family, and and playing opposite the brilliant Gustaf Skarsgård. Highly esteemed by his peers, Seth received a Primetime Emmy Nomination and Art Directors Guild Nomination for his work on Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey starring Neil deGrasse Tyson. He's currently working on Shut Eye which premieres December 7th on Hulu in the US (no UK pick up yet), and stars Burn Notice’s Jeffrey Donovan as a failed magician Charlie Haverford, who now works as a psychic. The first interview we have this week is with actress Susan Wokoma, who plays Raquel in E4's brand new horror comedy CRAZYHEAD, which is airing Wednesday nights at 9pm on E4 in the UK, and will come to Netflix worldwide later in the year. Raquel’s a self-made demon hunter with a whole lot of baggage and an impressive lack of social skills, who teams up with Amy (Downton Abbey's Cara Theobold). Amy discovers she's started to see demons who are masquerading as people... which is rather disturbing, so she obviously thinks she's going crazy. That is until Raquel shows up, and explains to her that what she's seeing is very real, and she needs her help battling the legions of hell... We have a long chat with the man behind the music not only for Joss Whedon's brilliant Firefly tv series, but also the composer of the soundtracks for Naughty Dog's Uncharted video games, Greg Edmonson. Greg moved to LA as a session guitar player, before landing a scoring job with animation company Hanna Barbera. From there he moved on to working with Hollywood uber-composer, the multiple Emmy-winner Mike Post. He is the man responsible for many of the the tv themes we know and love, including The A-Team, Magnum, P.I., NYPD Blue, Hill Street Blues, and The Rockford Files. After leaving Mike's wing, Greg worked on Mike Judge's long-running animated series, King of the Hill, before coming to a little sci-fi series from Joss Whedon... Firefly. For those of you who haven't caught the show, Z Nation is set in post-zombie apocalypse America, and follows a group of survivors. One of the group is Murphy, an ex-con, who was experimented on by doctors looking for a cure to the outbreak. Murphy is now the sole hope for the world in saving it from zombie armageddon, a role he didn't choose and doesn't want, but the rest of the gang are determined to get him to a lab who can analyze his blood, and save the planet.
