The vibe in our passage is a bit like ‘passing the baton’. Paul (facing execution) is challenging Timothy to “follow the pattern of sound words”. What was the pattern? How did we get the ‘sound’ or trustworthy words of the Bible? If someone said to you, “How do we know you can trust the Bible?” What would you say? I recently had an opportunity to share my faith with the hostess of our vacation condo, but I chose to play it safe and be a ‘good’ guest and leave a nice tip. Is that ok? Should we as believers mostly do the good works, or should we use words to share the gospel, or even with urgency be “…snatching them from the flame…” (Jude 1:23)? In our passage, Paul, who is facing execution for sharing the gospel, is challenging timid Timothy to be full of boldness when it comes to talking about Jesus. Before cementing in our new year’s resolutions, it’s good to remember who we belong to. US Christianity by nature tends to be self-serving. That’s normal for any people-group who live in freedom and prosperity. Mark 10 takes us to an interesting scene where Jesus is heading uphill to Jerusalem to be crucified and lay down His life, and James and John ask, “We want you to do whatever we ask.” This leads to an amazing teaching that helps us create the framework for all of our resolutions.

Do you ever read through the Bible and get surprised when God's people in the Old Testament betray him? How could they forget all the miracles that God did? When we look at our own lives we find that we operate in the same way. Join us as we discover a tool and encouragement that God has given us to ensure that our hearts stay close to him and we have a faith that lasts.

The Christmas season is a great time to give and receive love. In reality, if we are honest, it can be a bit tense at times. This season can highlight the lack of love around us. The fact that we lack the deep love others are looking for, and others don’t seem to fill our tank as we wish they would. (Did you get all the gifts yet?). The solution is for us to look more closely at the love of our Father, to “see” it, and to let it transform us from the inside out. Join us this weekend to explore. Consider inviting a friend.

You've likely experienced or are currently experiencing some deep sorrow or suffering in this life. If God is all good and all-powerful, why do we have to experience sorrow and suffering? Join us as we discuss God's response to the sorrow we experience and His plan for our Joy.

According to the American Psychological Association, “Anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure.” Notice that it begins with thoughts and feelings and can ultimately lead to physical problems. In our study, Judah was at an all-time high in terms of anxiety. The brutal empire of Assyria was at the gates, threatening to torture and destroy them. Isaiah 9:4-5 speaks of God breaking the “rod of the oppressor.” The implications of this statement are far-reaching, especially in light of what comes next in Isaiah 9:6: “…and His name shall be called…Prince of Peace…” Join us as we unpack the implications of Jesus being our Prince of Peace. What should we expect? How does He address the anxiety we feel? And what can be done?

We are not in control. It’s a raw feeling, and it leads to fear and despair. The alternative for us, is to trust that this child that is ‘given’ is our “mighty God.” He sees us, and He cares about us! That takes everything that is ‘raw’, and gives us hope. Join us for the start of Advent, from despair to hope!

Do you have a plan for your life? As Christians, we often seek to be led by the Spirit, but how does that affect the plans we make? Is it wise to make plans, or should we simply wait for guidance? This weekend, we’ll dive into 1 Corinthians 16 and explore how Paul approached his plans in light of God’s will. Join us as we discuss how to live with intention while being open to the leading of the Spirit.

Tom Brady was interviewed on CBS in 2016. He said, “Why do I have three Super Bowl rings and still think there is something greater out there for me? Maybe a lot of people out there would say, ‘Hey man, this is what it is!’. I’ve reached my goal, I’ve reached my dream. Me, I think, ‘God, there’s gotta be more than this.’” It’s ironic that he uses the word “God”, in his cry for purpose. This weekend join us to discover the excitement and the implications of receiving our new resurrection bodies. What will our actual future life be like? How does that inspire us today?

Jesus is alive!! He is not just a ghost. He literally, physically rose from the dead. There is undeniable evidence of the fact, and it has major implications. It means that He is with you today, and able to break into our physical world and impact us now. It means that you will not perish, but be transformed into a new physical body of which Jesus is the ‘firstfruits’, and it means that Jesus is above all powers and religions and people groups. Join us this weekend to explore the evidence and implications of the resurrection of Christ.

What if I told you there was carbon monoxide filling your house? Poison in the very air you breathe? You can't detect it because it's become your norm. This is how it is with money and greed in our culture. It's the air we breathe, and many of us are unaware of the danger lurking within. Join us this weekend as we explore the warnings surrounding money and discover how to navigate these challenges together.

This weekend we are excited to tackle what it means to be a “River Church”, and not a “Dead Sea” church. As in Corinth, God has called us towards radical generosity. “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” 2 Cor. 9:10 God wants us to become increasingly more open-handed as He transforms us from being an end unto ourselves, to being a channel of God’s blessing. Join us this weekend to explore counter-cultural truths about giving.

When we become believers, we have both natures within us—our natural self and God’s spirit. We easily switch back and forth between the two. The church at Corinth was allowing their natural self to infiltrate their church gatherings and it was causing hurt. Join us this weekend to understand how we can build each other up in church and thereby represent Christ well.

What a great opportunity we have as a church to be unified and buy into being part of the “Body life” at CFC. It’s a huge blessing. It’s hard; it will transform you! Unlike our divided and splintered culture, we have Jesus as our common confession, we are empowered by God, and have manifestations of His Spirit working through us.
