On Prime Time Jukebox Episode 132, our third installment of Down the Rabbit Hole features guest DJs Mike Szczepankiewicz and Mike Palmer of Cigar Hustler. The concept works as follows: The group starts with a familiar song and then goes down the path of selecting a song inspired by that song. Each will go through eight iterations of this exercise and choose a song from the inspired previous song selected. Ultimately, we will see where this journey takes each of them. Crowned Heads release a new core line at the 2024 PCA Trade Show called Coroneta.  Coroneta is a derived from from the word coronet which is a small crown for lower royal ranks below monarchs from the 16th century.  Each size of the Coroneta is named after the British heraldry that would wear the coronet, Earl, Baron, and Duke.  Coroneta is a line which features both an Ecuadorian Habano and a San Andreas Maduro wrappers each using a unique blend.  Something else unique about this new line is that each version is made at a different factory.  The San Andreas version is being made at Casa Carrillo in the Dominican Republic by EP Carrillo.  The Habano is made at Nicaraguan American Cigars, S.A. (NACSA) in Esteli, Nicaragua. The Smoking Syndicate Roundtable tackles the Micallef Blue Robusto Micallef Blue made its official nationwide debut at PCA 2024. It’s the second cigar in the unofficial “color” series following 2023’s Micallef Black. With both Blue and Black, Micallef is targeting the market with a high quality premium cigar in the $7.00 to $8.00 range. The Micallef Blue was also a cigar favorite by the Cigar Coop Coalition among the 2024 PCA releases.

Tonight on Prime Time Episode 308, it’s a little different kind of show as Coop and Aaron will cover “What We Smoked”. The concept is very simple. We will each talk about some of the cigars we smoked and reviewed over the past several weeks. Macanudo introduced a new regular line this year at the PCA trade show in Las Vegas called the Macanudo Emissary España. The Macanudo Emissary‘s first run is called the España and features a special tobacco grown in Spain for this cigar. Here is what Macanudo had to say about the tobacco: Macanudo Emissary España uses a harmonious five-country blend highlighted by a Havana seed grown near the town of Riolobos, Spain. The region’s rocky soil and Mediterranean climate yield a rich tobacco that cannot be replicated. Grown near olive trees and pepper fields used for paprika, the tobacco is characterized by thick, oily leaves from the warm, dry summer days and mild nights. When combined with the rocky soil, the result is tobacco with intensity and complexity. This new blend contains many well aged tobaccos including tobaccos for the filler with 5 year aged Dominican Piloto, 6 year aged Nicaraguan, and 5 year aged Colombian tobacco. The Tatuaje Cojonu line was born out of the Seleccion de Cazadore (aka Brown Label) line where Tatuaje owner, Pete Johnson, asked master blender, Don Pepin Garcia to make a stronger blend.  The name came from Don Pepin saying that the blend had “cojonu”, Cuban slang for “cojones” or “balls”.  The name stuck and Pete Johnson decided to release the line in a new vitola every three years.  In 2012, Pete Johnson put the line in hiatus, but it returned in 2021.  He released the Cojonu 2015 and the 2018 in 2022 and 2023 respectively and called them the “Lost Years”. The Smoking Syndicate Roundtable tackles the La Aurora 120th Anniversary! The La Aurora 120th Anniversary made its debut in 2023 to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the oldest premium cigar factory in the Dominican Republic. Blended by Manuel Inoa, the 120th Anniversary blend is highlighted by Dominican Tobaccos. It features a Dominican Havana 92 wrapper over an Olor del Valle Cibao binder and a filler of various tobaccos including Corojo, Olor del Valle del Cibao, and Piloto Cubano del Valle del Cibao.

When it came to new products at the 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Show, perhaps no booth was more active than Tatuaje Cigars. Owner Pete Johnson had elected to use the 2024 PCA Trade Show to showcase all of the releases he had planned for 2024.
