Luke is an Anthropology student who specializes in the study of the ancient Maya. He is also one of the presenters for the Cosmic Summit. We went live on YouTube to discuss our recent trip to Turkey with Ben from UnchartedX. We talk about Gobekli Tepe and the popular narrative that has been built around the site, and the newer scientific information that is being published that changes what archaeologists think about the site. We are joined by John from Living Dreams Mexico to talk about the Maya, their long history, and the development of their culture and building styles. John runs a tour company in Mexico and is very familiar with many of the Mayan sites, and he gives us a lesson in the basic Mayan history and the associated architectural styles. We also discuss a bit about Mayan theology, astronomy, and the connection with the Olmecs. After the interview with John, we give an Ag update and tackle some emails.

We are back in the cube from our trip to Turkey, discussing the culture of the country, the beautiful city of Sanliurfa, and the many amazing ancient sites we visited. After an overview of the trip itself and some brief discussion of other sites like Karahan Tepe, Harran, and Sogmatar, we get into some details about Gobekli Tepe that we observed, as well as some of what we learned from reading the scientific literature associated with the site. With our trip to Turkey coming soon, we sit down to record this episode with Gobekli Tepe on our minds, and this leads to a discussion about the origins of civilization. What came first, the temple, or civilization? How do hunter gatherer people become farmers and ranchers? Obviously, we don't have the answers. But we work through our thoughts in this episode, and it will be interesting to see how much we learn, and how that will change what we think now, after we see Gobekli Tepe for ourselves.

We tried something new with this episode and streamed it live to the Youtube channel. It was fun, thanks to everyone who participated in the chats(and donated!!) Ben from UnchartedX joins us to discuss the amazing high quality scan data of a pre-dynastic Egyptian stone vase. Ben has discussed this object, the data from the scan, and the implications of the staggering precision evident in the manufacturing process several times on his channel. Since the STL file of the data has been made available for download on the UnchartedX website, many people from around the world have been performing their own analysis of the vase, and we discuss some of the results of that on this episode, as well as some interesting results that Kyle has discovered on his own in his attempt to better understand the initial analysis techniques used by professional metrologists Alex Dunn and Nick Sierra. George Howard joins us to discuss his knowledge of the Alaskan Pleistocene bonebeds we were reading about in Path of the Pole. George has a lot of interesting information about these deposits, including a Comet Research Group study on cosmic material recovered from sediments embedded in the bones themselves.
