Back to the book report! We had a great time in Egypt, and there are more Egypt episodes coming, but meanwhile we still have to complete Charles Hapgood's Path of the Pole. This week we complete the section on mountain building, continental drift, and crustal composition, and move into chapter ten, which is about the extinction of the Pleistocene megafauna.   Executive Producer: Annabel

Chuck is a geologist by education, specializing in planetary science, and has a lot of experience in stone cutting and shaping. Continuing our deep dive into Charles Hapgood's The Path of the Pole, we discuss the evidence that advances and retreats of the massive Pleistocene ice sheets in North America and Europe were apparently in opposition, such that whenever there was an advance in Europe, for example, there was a retreat of ice in North America, and vice versa. Hapgood points to this as evidence that these advances and retreats were not caused by global cooling or warming, but perhaps they may have been caused by lithosphere displacement. We talk about volcanism and its possible role in drastically affecting climate during catastrophic crustal shift periods, causing all the glacial and interglacial periods we see evidence for in the recent glaciation. After our interview with Maartin from MarioBuildreps about ancient sites possibly being aligned to previous north pole positions on the earth, we decided we should take a deep dive into Charles Hapgood's book, The Path of the Pole, and look at historical research into this topic.
