Today, we wrap up the 2024 Election with Steve Friess. He's a smart journalist with a lot of experience.  With a local lens, we'll talk about how many young people and people from different backgrounds voted for Trump. This was unexpected and shows that the polls were wrong. We'll also talk about why people wanted a big change, even if it might cause problems. We'll look at why the messaging didn't work well, and some of the number of reasons why Kamala Harris lost the election. We'll also talk about how some people voted for different parties for different jobs in Michigan, and how podcasts helped change people's minds. Even though things are uncertain, we'll keep sharing with you important stories about Detroit and nearby areas. So, let’s get into five stories around town: Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is expected to announce his political plans next week.  Today, the city government of Detroit announced plans to become the largest U.S. city to accept cryptocurrency for tax payments and other municipal fees.  Bedrock plans to bring the immersive technology and entertainment venue Cosm to downtown Detroit. Detroit voters approved a millage proposal that might speed up the pace of paying off debt for Detroit Public Schools. Oakland County is set to begin

The election is over. There's a lot to unpack. Devon joined me for an unfiltered brain dump the day after Donald Trump not only wins Michigan, but rode a wider red wave nationally into office - as well as state legislature changes. From filter bubbles, to finding a way forward, to understanding there are multiple factors at play, we get into it. I'll warn ahead of time this is not a heavily data-driven conversation. This is a lot of vibes. It's going to take time to think about. We might be wrong — but this is not just based on thin air.  We take our experience, the data we do have, and put it all together to analyze things how they stand.
