Sinopsis

Dan Hanzus and Bob Castrone love listening to music- almost as much as they love hanging out in a garage and talking about it. On The Throwback Podcast, lifelong friends revisit important albums from their past and go through them--track by track-- with fresh ears. From the classics to the cringeworthy, every week is a throwback.

Episodios

  • JULY '82 - Top 10 Countdown

    09/07/2020 Duración: 01h12min

Here's a little ditty about Bob and Dan, two American kids doing the best they can. This week, they're going alllllll the way back to 1982 to check out a murder's row of Billboard Top 10 singles. Disco, Southern Rock, New Wave, Yacht Rock, and whatever you want to call Juice Newton- it's all there. Also breaking news, one of our heroes discovers he's actually a John Cougar Mellancamp fan! Surprised? So was he.

  • GREEN DAY - American Idiot

    25/06/2020 Duración: 01h25min

In 2004, an incompetent President mishandled a life-or-death situation and drew the ire of millions of angry citizens who hated how much he was hurting our country. Sixteen years later, the world is obviously a much different place. And this week, Bob and Dan are in a garage ready to tackle Green Day's epic George Bush-blasting rock opera, American Idiot. Throw in some Patreonie email questions and a deeper-than-expected dive into Incubus' shockingly impressive catalog, and you have an episode even Billie Joe couldn't sneer at.

  • TOM PETTY - Wildflowers w/ Nikki Glaser & Jason Zumwalt

    11/06/2020 Duración: 01h58min

Twelve years ago Dan, Bob, Jason Zumwalt and Nikki Glaser spent countless nights hanging out, having fun, and listening to Tom Petty together in the Hollywood Hills. Now they're back at it again. This week, Nikki surprises her old friends by crashing a recording session and digging into Wildflowers with the boys. Sure, they're in different time zones and roughly a dozen years removed from Peak Fun, but that won't stop them from talking about things that matter, like Everlast, St. Louis Raya, hot dads, and the Velvet Teddy Bear.

  • BEASTIE BOYS - Ill Communication

    28/05/2020 Duración: 01h18min

I want to say a little something that's long overdue: It’s Beastie Boys week on the Throwback Pod. The guys travel back to 1994 to revisit Ill Communication, the album that returned the NYC hip hop legends to superstar status. The guys also discuss Dan’s enhanced efforts on the promotional front and Bob shares a playlist to take you *out* of the mood.

  • MAY '96 - TOP 10 COUNTDOWN

    14/05/2020 Duración: 01h12min

Twenty-four years ago Bob and Dan were high school sophomores, bands like Oasis, Soundgarden, and Goldfinger were climbing the charts, and human beings were group-hugging and triple-kissing like there was no tomorrow. Turns out, that was as good as it gets. Let's go back in time to our 1950's -- the 1990's -- and check out the Top 10 Modern Rock tracks from this week in 1996.

  • THE STROKES - First Impressions Of Earth

    07/05/2020 Duración: 01h10min

The Strokes are back! Their new album, The New Abnormal, is not just the only good thing to happen in 2020, but it's also one-way-triggered Bob and Dan into revisiting Julian & The Boys' old catalog. Which brings us to First Impressions Of Earth, their divisive 2006 LP that either signaled an exciting new direction for the lo-fi NY rockers, or the beginning of the end. Or maybe both? How does this album hold up, and how does it sound now knowing the Strokes still had some gas left in the tank? Let's figure that out. But first, we've got to travel back to '06, a simpler time when the only social distancing that took place was Drew Barrymore trying to get as far away from Dan as possible.

  • EVERYBODY DANCE NOW - 90's Pop Bangers Vol. 1

    31/03/2020 Duración: 01h25min

Pump Up The Jam? Why yes, we will. This week we're transforming the rented garage into a rented Middle School Auditorium circa 1992. Our moms have bought us some rad rayon shirts and we're totally psyched to do the running man to the biggest pop/Eurodance hits from the early 90's. From C&C Music Factory to Technotronic to Ace Of Base to Haddaway, let's party right up until that Ford Taurus station wagon takes us home. You guys want some cameos?

  • PEARL JAM - Vs.

    24/03/2020 Duración: 01h32min

The guys are back in the sterilized garage (a safe distance apart, of course) to tackle Pearl Jam's smash sophomore album, Vs. Let's go back to 1993, when Dan and Bob were social distancing by accident and Meatloaf was responsible for 7-minute erections. Escape is never the safest path -- but c'mon, what else do you have going on?

  • COUNTING CROWS - August and Everything After

    27/02/2020 Duración: 01h30min

Episode 100! Here we are! Thanks to all the Patreonies and people out there for making this happen! To celebrate, Dan and Bob are going to (a) burn down the garage, and (b) push play on the album that helped transform these two average 8th graders (slash-below-average-soccer-players) into award-winning Bosom Buddies. [Adam Duritz 'Rain King' Howl]: Yeahhhhhhh!

  • GOO GOO DOLLS - Dizzy Up The Girl

    13/02/2020 Duración: 01h18min

Goo Heads rejoice: your favorite band from Buffalo won a Patreon Poll (patreon.com/throwbackpod) which means they're getting the Throwback treatment this week! Let's go back to 1998 when upstate NY's finest scored a multiplatinum LP featuring LITERALLY the biggest song of the decade -- which somehow isn't even the best song on the album. Just ask Maude.

  • RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - The Battle Of Los Angeles [TOUR]

    18/01/2020 Duración: 01h13min

Picture it: Baltimore Arena. December 2, 1999. Rage Against The Machine (and their opening act At The Drive In) playing to packed house TEEMING with RAGE fans... and Bob. This week, thanks to the voters on PATREON.COM/THROWBACKPOD, the guys finally hit one of the biggest acts of the 90's by revisiting the show from The Battle Of Los Angeles tour that Bob attended with his buddy Liar Steve. Huge hits, a memorable cover... and a little bit of Lou Bega mixed in.

  • OASIS - Definitely Maybe

    09/01/2020 Duración: 01h28min

It's 2020, Bob is 40, and we're feeling supersonic -- let's kick off the decade with some cigarettes and alcohol. Definitely Maybe is a definitive LP of the 90's and a Britpop classic. It's also Bob's favorite Oasis album, so devoting an episode to it is the least we can do for the old man. Liam and Noel: welcome to the 3-timers club.

  • THE 2010's - Best Of [Double EP]

    26/12/2019 Duración: 02h17min

In this very special double-episode of the Throwback Podcast, Bob and Dan say goodbye to the 2010's the only way they know how: by picking 20 of their favorite songs from the decade and discussing the most random sh*t imaginable while a terrible Mike Myers movie plays in the background. Let's take a look back at the '10s with an episode nearly as long as the decade itself. All killer, no mid-podcast filler. Happy new year.

  • ARCADE FIRE - Funeral w/ Gregg Rosenthal

    12/12/2019 Duración: 01h16min

The legendary Gregg Rosenthal (60% G) has finally landed in the garage for his Throwback Podcast debut. Everybody knows Gregg Likes Rap, but did you know he also LOVES the debut studio album by everyone's favorite socially conscious Canadians? Let's go back to 2004 and push play on the modern classic that introduced the world to Win Butler, and deprived the world of his potential NBA career.

  • THROWBACK TO THE FUTURE II - 2019

    06/12/2019 Duración: 01h35min

    Q. In 30 years when Bob and Dan are still doing their HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL MUSIC PODCAST* (*depending on the metric you use) in another rented garage, which songs from 2019 will they be throwing back to? A. These 20

  • BLINK-182 - Enema Of The State

    21/11/2019 Duración: 01h30min

Twenty years ago the boys in blink-182 made the leap from SoCal punks to TRL mainstays, all thanks to an album with a pornstar on the cover and 3 huge hit singles. This week, the boys in the rented garage dig into Blink's multi-multi-platinum LP, Enema Of The State. Also, Bob vamps.

  • R.E.M. - Out Of Time

    31/10/2019 Duración: 01h16min

R.E.M.'s seventh studio did it all. Won Grammys? CHECK. Produced the band's biggest single ever? CHECK. Invented rap-rock? CHECK AND CHECK. This week Bob an Dan go back to 1991 and push play on the biggest album that all the cool college kids were listening to in the early 90's. So sit back as Michael Stipe, The Greatest Backing Vocalist In Rock History, and The Billionaire enter the coveted Throwback Podcast Two-Timer Club.

  • THE LIFE & TIMES OF MARC SESSLER

    25/10/2019 Duración: 01h18min

ATN HERO Marc Sessler joins Dan and Bob in the Throwback Podcast Studio (a.k.a. rented garage) to take a walk down memory lane and share the music that soundtracked his life. From Duran Duran to Richard Marx to a man named Dave, come with us on a journey, and experience MARC... in the Key of C.

  • SEPTEMBER '89 - Top 10 Countdown

    26/09/2019 Duración: 01h14min

We're going back, back, back in time- 30 years to be exact. Let's revisit the Top 10 Billboard hits from this week in September, 1989. Hair metal, R&B ballads, pop classics, and a surprising amount of talk about the Northridge Quake of '94. Cherish this one.

  • MATCHBOX 20 - Yourself Or Someone Like You

    12/09/2019 Duración: 56min

It sold 15 MILLION copies. Spawned multiple HUGE hits. Introduced the world (and, more importantly, Carlos Santana) to Rob Thomas. But in 1996... Dan and Bob HATED IT. The question is: why? Why were the teenage BFF's anti-Matchers? Why did they hold onto that hatred for decades? And why are they finally ready to finally give Rob & Co. a chance today? Do Matchbox 20 (twenty?) have what it takes to win them over, or... or will they push them away?
