Talk Toomey: The Metal Nexus Podcast

Toomey and Akin start the show with some Metallica talk and dive into the story of Cliff Burton joining the band. The guys talk some Suicide Silence and Toomey's interview recap. Louder Than Life lineup is out they go over the festival and who they would like to see. Ripper says he would fill in for Phil Anselmo if needed, Morgan Lander says it's time for new Kittie music and Tony Campos says it's up to the fans if they want new Static-X music. The guys gives some tv and music recommendations. 

Mark Heylmun of Suicide Silence joins Joshua Toomey and Talk Toomey to discuss their latest album, Remember... You Must Die. Mark and Joshua dive into the Suicide Silence writing process, where all the riffs originate and the Alter of Self video. The guys talk about the uplifting album title and how heavy the record needed to be. Mark talks about playing the first Pantera show back and the feelings around the bands on the topic. Joshua and Mark finish with talk about album cover artist, David Van Gough, and the cover art of Remember...We Must Die. 

Toomey and Akin start the show recapping their respective interviews from the week. Akin spoke about Mikkey Dee of Motorhead interview and having to record with him at 6am. Toomey then talks about his interview with Burton C Bell and the takeaway from all the metal sites running with his comments on the new Fear Factory news. Morgan Lander of Kittie has given her two cents on the Pantera celebration. Dave Lombardo will be releasing a solo album. Shavo Odadjian of System of a Down is also releasing a solo album and the guys talk about the upcoming DevilDriver single. Jeff Scott Soto weighs in on his bandmate Dave Ellefson. The guys discuss the latest Chris Rock special and gives some music recommendations.

Burton C Bell returns to that Talk Toomey Podcast to discuss his upcoming photography exhibition, Paradise Found. Burton and Joshua talk about his history with photography and his love for taking and developing photos since elementary school. Paradise Found revolves around abandoned industrial buildings and the guys discuss how these buildings are remnants of another time. Burton speaks on the Dye Sublimation process on aluminum and how it is the perfect platform for these prints. He then talks about meeting Vincent Castigilia and getting the exhibition together for his gallery. Burton talks about his current musical projects and drops how he is doing vocals on a Rammstein tribute record and tells a story of hanging with Rammstein in a shared dressing room. Burton does answer a few Fear Factory questions. Toomey and Akin start the show with an update on Akin's nerve damage. Toomey recaps the Chad Ruhlig interview. The guys discuss the first Fear Factory shows with Milo Silvestro, the new Xero costume and Tim Henson of Polyphia's Boomer Bends comments. Kiss has announced their final shows, Marty Friedman jumped up with Megadeth in Tokyo and Robert Trujillo has been in Metallica for 20 years! James Hetfield to star in an upcoming film, Metallica has released more new music and Steve Vai hates clickbait. John 5 gives you a tour of a plane you will never ride on and Rob Halford may have overstepped with Dolly Parton. The guys also discuss if they should drop the Seattle Sea Dragons!!

Chad Ruhlig of For The Fallen Dreams joins Joshua Toomey and Talk Toomey this week to discuss FTFD's Self Titled upcoming album. Chad and Joshua talk about the writing process through the pandemic and working with outside writers for the first time in the band's career. The guys talk about their current tour with Gideon and getting back on the road after 3 years. Chad speaks on For The Fallen Dreams molding a set list of old and new songs to make the fans happy. Toomey and Ruhlig then dive more into his vocal approach on the new album and expanding into singing and a little flow here and there. Traa Daniels of P.O.D. joins Talk Toomey to discuss his new project, World Gone Cold. Traa and Joshua talk about how the band came together during the pandemic. They speak about how heavy the record is and recording the EP together. Traa looks back on joining P.O.D. 30 years ago and adapting his bass style to punk and metal. Traa also tells us his story about how "Satellite" helped everyone around 9/11 with uplifting lyrics and where they were during the attacks. Joshua and Traa dive into Traa's bass influences, moving to Nashville and if he is becoming a Titans fan! Traa ends with the future of World Gone Cold and show ideas. 

Glen Matlock of The Sex Pistols joins Joshua Toomey and the Talk Toomey Podcast this week to discuss his upcoming solo release, Consequences Coming. Glen and Joshua start the talk with his songwriting process, writing about heavy topics and Joshua gets a lesson on English slang and Brexit! Glen jokes about The Sex Pistols not having band meetings and gives his thoughts on the Hulu Series "Pistol". He then talks about the lasting effect punk has had on popular culture and talks about how he recently joined Blondie as their bass player. Toomey and Akin start the show breaking down some recent stories involving Metallica, Megadeth and Charlie Benante's thoughts on the Pantera critics. Toomey talks the new Paramore record and Akin gives his thoughts on the John 5 in Motley Crue footage. 

Tim "Ripper" Owens makes his Talk Toomey debut this week. Ripper and Toomey start the show talking about his weight loss journey and then dive into his Jamey Jasta produced solo EP "Return to Death Row". Tim discusses how easy it is to work with Jasta and the turnaround time it took him to record the vocals. He gives us a taste of his vocal warmup and his thoughts on being named a Top 50 Metal Vocalist. He gives us the backstory of him not being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame with Judas Priest and the guys touch on the movie "Rock Star". They finish up the talk with his appearance on Bar Rescue and the inner working of having bands around the world to play solo shows. 

Joshua Toomey is joined by Bakko from Cobras & Fire this week. Toomey starts the episode with some talk about his latest interview with Brent Smith of Shinedown. The guys dive into the new Limp Bizkit deepfake video, the Satanic Panic of Sam Smith and Ozzy won some Grammys. John Crist of Danzig wanted to replace Kirk Hammett in Metallica, Bakko discusses new Foo Fighters drummer thoughts and Paul Stanley vocals.
