Episode 488 – Dune
09/11/2021Well a new version of the unfilmable epic Dune is in the theaters and we watched it! We talk about the movie and what we think it gets right along with some observations about the David Lynch Dune, that apparently some people like now. Tim doesn’t. But he helped make this hilarious Swede version of Dune that you should check out if you want to see a pretty solid synopsis. Also there’s a song at the end that is just kind of…a whole thing. Anyway, Dune was a decent part of the story and we are hoping for more parts of the story since this was definitely not all of the story.

Episode 487 – Ted Lasso Season 2
02/11/2021This week, we take a heavily spoiler filled look into the second season of Ted Lasso. The breakout hit for Apple+ gave us a season filled with all the things we loved about Ted Lasso and it subverted some other things. We have as many questions as Trent Crimm and Patricia Wick joins us to sort out some of our complicated thoughts and feelings coming out of a tumultuous year for Richmond United and their coaching staff. We talk about all the good and bad that happened this season. And Nate. Oh yeah – Nate.

Episode 486 – No Time To Die
26/10/2021This week, you will need to take a drink (preferably shaken and not stirred) as Jeremy Stomberg joins us to discuss No Time To Die! The latest installment in the James Bond franchise is the final installment for Daniel Craig as the British secret agent. We spend a lot of time taking a deep dive into the movie but we also spend some time talking about the Bond franchise as a whole. One thing is for sure, on this podcast there is definitely time to die!

Episode 485 – Star Wars: Visions
19/10/2021Note: We had a recording issue with this episode that resulted in Molly and Nick having a severe echo on their audio. Tim apologizes for the error, which affected both this episode and the What If episode. He promises that he will almost certainly make mistakes in the future but it won’t be this same mistake. This week, we are talking about Star Wars:Visions on Disney Plus. The series features nine non-canon visions of the Star Wars universe from noted Anime studios. We take a very spoiler filled look at every episode. It’s hard to quibble with new Star Wars and we all have our favorites as well as a few episodes we just didn’t really jive with. Overall, though, this is a really solid series of shorts.

Episode 484 – What If?
12/10/2021Note: There was an error when we recorded the audio for this week’s episode. Nick and Molly have a very severe echo on their audio. This was a setting error and only affects this episode and episode 485 we (but really just Tim because it’s his fault) apologize for the error. This week, we break down the first season of “What If…?” on Disney Plus. The Marvel series is a multiverse based serial about possible Marvel futures. We take a deep dive into the nine episodes of season one and talk about our favorites and also some places where we felt things fell a little short. Overall, we enjoyed the first season and will very much miss Chadwick Boseman.

Episode 483 – Shang-Chi
05/10/2021This week, we take a look at the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Shang-Chi! The film is a fun addition to the Marvel stable with great action sequences and Awkwafina. Basically anything with Awkwafina is definitely worth the trouble to check out and Shang-Chi is no trouble at all. The movie isn’t technically about her but isn’t anything with Awkwafina in it basically about her anyway?

Episode 482 – Sasha Sagan
29/09/2021This week, we had the opportunity to interview Sasha Sagan, daughter of Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan. Sasha’s book “For Small Creatures Such as We: Rituals for Finding Meaning in an Unlikely World” will be released on paperback on October 22nd, 2021 and we had the chance to read the book and talk to Sasha about it. The book is really well done and talks about how to create rituals when you live in a secular household and how we really do it all the time. Definitely recommend the book but Sasha is delightful and we were so thrilled to have her as a guest.

21/09/2021This week we have a brand new set of geeky boners! Listen in as we talk about the stuff that has us excited right now and also make some dick jokes! Episode 480 – A Festival in a Pandemic
14/09/2021This week we are joined by frequent guest Tony Miller. He is once again in town for the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. We talk to Tony about spending a year without a job and how he navigated that problem. We also talk a lot about precautions both Tony and Tim are taking this season because there’s still a pandemic going on and a lot of people seem to have either forgotten or ignored that fact. Tony also comes up with five questions on the fly!

Episode 479 – The Suicide Squad
07/09/2021This week we discuss The Suicide Squad, which is not to be confused with Suicide Squad. Suicide Squad was a movie that came out out a few years ago and starred Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and it was completely horrible. The Suicide Squad is a movie that came out in 2021 and stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and it’s actually pretty darn good. Anyway, we talk about the new movie (that’s pretty good) and every now and again cast a little shade on the old movie (because it sucked).
-
Episode 478 – The Jungle Cruise
31/08/2021This week, we are joined by friend and longtime listener Adam Treece to discuss The Jungle Cruise. Yes, the ride at Disney World and Disneyland. Also the recent movie starring The Rock and Emily Blunt. Also the recent Behind the Attraction episode about the ride from Disney Plus. Basically, we just talk all things The Jungle Cruise because Adam is a huge fanboy for The Jungle Cruise.

Episode 477 – CONvergence 2021
24/08/2021Well, CONvergence happened and it was a very strange year for Geeks Without God. Tim was there. Molly and Nick weren’t. And we all had reasons for attending or not in the midst of a once again worsening pandemic. In this episode, we talk about all the complicating factors that went into the con decision for each of us and the emotions we are dealing with as the pandemic changes but doesn’t end. It’s a Geeks Without God episode with all the feels!

Episode 476 – Loki
17/08/2021This week, we bring back our Marvel expert Mark Sherman and take a deep dive into the Disney + series “Loki!” Rest assured there are spoilers a-plenty so if you haven’t watched the first season yet, you may want to do so before you take too deep a dive into this episode. Speaking of deep dives, we definitely take a long look at what is going on with the show and spend an especially long time on the antagonist who was not so much of a surprise to many long time Marvel fans.
-
Episode 475 – Inside
10/08/2021This week, we take a look at Bo Burnham: Inside. His new special dropped on Netflix last month and has generated a lot of buzz. We take a look at the special but we also take a look at how it fits into his larger body of work and especially his specials on Netflix and Comedy Central. The show is something we’d really suggest you watch because whether or not you like it, you are bound to have some SERIOUS THOUGHTS about it.
-
Episode 474 – Black Widow
03/08/2021Guess what! We finally have a Marvel movie in the theaters to talk about! Black Widow hit the theaters so we hit our podcast with guest Kirky Traylor Thorson to talk about it! We do spoil the shit out of the movie so if you haven’t seen it yet, you should probably wait to listen to this episode unless you want to hear about what happened to and when they . But HOLY SHIT, right? Ya’ll you saw it know what we’re talking about.
-
Episode 473 – Mythic Quest
27/07/2021This week, we take a look at the first two seasons of Mythic Quest on Apple TV. The show can be spoiled so be warned that we are going to be spoil the shit out of it. The show follows a bunch of people involved in the production of Mythic Quest, a MMORPG that looks quite a bit like World of Warcraft. It’s a workplace comedy so it can be a bit formulaic but we enjoyed it because of the interesting character arcs. And don’t worry – we give you enough backstory to understand what’s going on!
-
Episode 472 – Creationism
20/07/2021This week, we are joined once again by the Reverend Matthew Kessen of Reverend Matt’s Monster Science! He joins us to discuss Creationism and why it is wrong. Tim spends some time trying to play devil’s advocate but he does a pretty crappy job because he agrees with Matt. We try to take a look at some common Creationist “arguments” and also take a look at the demise of the intelligent design movement. Also, we learn about a Deinocheirus!
-
Episode 471 – In the Heights
13/07/2021This week, we take a look at the new movie musical by Lin Manuel Miranda – “In the Heights!” The original show pre-dates “Hamilton” so, as you might expect, there are some comparisons between the two shows. There are also some spoilers but this movie doesn’t suffer a lot from spoilers as there are really only a couple of “big” surprises to begin with. We also talk a little bit about going back to movie theaters since Tim decided to watch this one on the big screen.
-
Episode 470 – Gardening Boners
06/07/2021The time has come for another geeky boners episode! Every now and again, we take an episode just to talk about whatever geeky stuff has caught our attention. Also we use the opportunity to make juvenile dick jokes! This week, we make dick jokes and talk about gardening, Superman the Animated Series, and the Fast and Furious Franchise! Our boners are so different! And look – we found a picture of Superman themed gardening implements!

Episode 469 – Animated Movies
29/06/2021This week, we are taking a look at a large slate of animated movies that came out in the last year. We start with “Onward” and continue on through “Raya and the Last Dragon.” All of the movies we discuss are streaming on various platforms and we recommend you check them out. Tim was especially enamored with “Wolf Walkers,” which is under seen. We all really enjoyed “Raya and the Last Dragon,” which just recently became available as part of the standard package on Disney Plus.
