  • Interview: Gary Lee Connor - Screaming Trees

    06/08/2020 Duración: 01h38min

The Screaming Tree's 1992 record coming in at no. 17, guitarist Gary Lee Connor joins Bakko to share insights and stories of this classic album as well as the bands entire career and his relationship with the other members. Screaming Trees were an American rock band formed in Ellensburg, Washington in 1985 by vocalist Mark Lanegan, guitarist Gary Lee Conner, bass player Van Conner and drummer Mark Pickerel. Pickerel had been replaced by Barrett Martin by the time the band reached its most successful period. Although widely associated with grunge, the band's sound incorporated hard rock and psychedelic elements. The band released seven studio albums, five EPs, and three compilations. Screaming Trees is known as one of the pioneers of grunge along with the Melvins, Mudhoney, U-Men, Skin Yard, Soundgarden, Green River, and Malfunkshun.[citation needed] Screaming Trees rose to fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s, along with bands such as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Soundgarden an

  • Whatever, Nevermind No. 17: Screaming Trees - Sweet Oblivion w/Tom Gigliotti

    04/08/2020 Duración: 01h21min

Coming in at number 17 on Rolling Stones Greatest Grunge Albums list is the 1992 album from Screaming Trees, Sweet Oblivion. Joining Bakko for this episode is co-host of the Shout It Out Loudcast Tom Gigliotti. Tom and Bakko take a deep dive on this standout album from a Seattle Grunge band that is often overlooked. The Screaming Trees one-upped their major-label debut, Uncle Anesthesia, with this solid, vastly underrated effort. Sweet Oblivion's lead single, the jumpy hard rocker "Nearly Lost You," proved itself a highlight on the hugely successful, Seattle-themed Singles soundtrack. But even though the Screaming Trees stacked up quite well against their more famous peers in that particular showcase, the exposure didn't make them stars. Perhaps it was because Sweet Oblivion had been released several months before Singles, and the band thus couldn't build a sense of anticipation for a new album release, the way Alice in Chains and Smashing Pumpkins did for Dirt and Siamese Dream, respectively; nor could they

  • EP 222: Sebastian Bach vs. Chris Jericho & Us vs. Everyone

    28/07/2020 Duración: 01h06min

It's all about beefs this episode. LC and Bakko clap back at a couple of KISS podcasts who dared to disrespect them. Great White is totally "Sorry, not sorry" about being the worst band to break the COVID barrier. Bret Michaels is going against better judgement by making another movie. And Sebastian Bach has few words for pro-wrestler and wannabe Skid Row singer (Bach's words) Chris Jericho as they engage in a totally believeable Twitter war. It's all about unbelievable conflict. Time to squash em! Featurng the music: Drowning Pool - Step Up KISS - Not For The Innocent Massive Wagons - House of Noise Michael Grant & The Assasins - Barrel of a Gun Stone Sour - Absolute Zero Badflower - 30 Sebastian Bach - Monkey Business Website: CobrasandFire.com Help support the artists featured. Coming in at number 18 on Rolling Stones Greatest Grunge Albums list is the 1995 album from Seattle Supergroup Mad Season, Above. Joining Bakko for this episode is co-host of the Decibel Geek Podcast Aaron Camaro. The two discuss the making of the album, the songs that made up the record and the tragic legacy it holds. Formed in a drug rehab center when Mike McCready checked himself into a Minnesota rehab center. It was there that McCready met local musician John Baker Saunders, and when he returned back to Seattle, called up Layne Staley, who was also at the time attempting to battle problems with substances. With Barrett Martin rounding out the lineup, an undeniable chemistry between all four musicians was discovered at their very first jam session, resulting in bits of music that would eventually become fully realized songs ("Wake Up" and "River of Deceit"). Mad Season was an American rock supergroup[3] formed in 1994 as a side project of members of other bands in the Seattle grunge scene. The band's pr

  • Interview: Bruce Pavitt-Sub Pop Records Founder

    21/05/2020 Duración: 57min

You can’t discuss the recorded history of Grunge without talking to SUB POP records founder Bruce Pavitt. Any list of the Greatest Grunge anything would contain a large chunk of DNA from that label and it’s artists. Bruce shares anecdotes from his entire time with SUB POP and of course what it was like to be at the Epicenter of Rock’s last great scene. Bruce Pavitt was born 1959 in Chicago IL. At the age of nine, he sold Christmas cards door-to-door in the summer heat, earning enough money to buy his first record player, and soon after, his first record (“Revolution” by the Beatles). A lifelong passion for music brought him to the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, in 1979, where he spent time as a DJ at KAOS-FM. Soon after, he started his own zine named SUB POP, which reviewed hard-to-find independent rock recordings. In 1988, along with business partner Jon Poneman, Bruce opened the doors to the SUB POP record label in downtown Seattle. By the early 90′s, SUB POP had released recordings by Nirvana,
