We Love To Watch

Our Blade Boys double month takes on the first of the boys, in 1998's Blade. Did you know that basically nothing from this movie was present in the comic book version of the character? We didn't! But we did our famous "research" and have newfound appreciation for just how wonderful and influential Stephen Norrington's movie was and is!

It's time for another super-sized summer theme, and we're doing our most ambitious effort yet with Blade Boys: Del Toro and Mignola's Super Adventures in Hollywood! We're covering the Blade and Hellboy movies through the lens of Mike Mignola and Guillermo Del Toro's creating comic movies in a Hollywood system. We're starting with an esxtended intro to their Hollywood work with a double feature: Del Toro's first American movie, Mimic, and the movie that Mignola created concept art for, Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

Musical May 4 kicks off with the best concert film of all time, Johnathan Demme's and Talking Head's Stop Making Sense. Sergio Leone month comes to a close with ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, a nostalgic and sad look back at a west that maybe never existed.

Leone Month resumes with a literal bang (followed by a thud, and a zoom) as we tackle what may be the best Western of all time, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. We're joined by western aficionado, Zach Grooten, who has nothing to plug and wants you to know you can't find him anywhere, unless you already know where to find him.

We've been recording episodes very far in advance due to quarantine giving us some extra time. Because of that, we recorded this episode on Collision Course months ago - before the horrific anti-Asian American hate crime shootings in Atlanta-area. We have plenty to say here about how this hate has been going on for a long time, and how shitty racist movies like Collision Course help perpetuate racist sentiments in the second half of the episode. We mostly just talk trash about Jay Leno in the first half. This month continues to put the love in our title, as we cover the second film in Sergio Leone's Dollar trilogy, For a Few Dollars More. Leone adds Van Cleef and a literal monster man in Klaus Kinski to his arsenal, and are six shooters went off quite a bit (this is a reference to western movies featuring a lot of pistols, and also the process of semen coming out of our penii when we get excited.)
