  • Episode 78: Identifying The Invisible Obstacles To Achieving Success With Keto

    20/09/2019 Duración: 36min

The question I keep asking myself is why is it we always hear about that some people can’t or don’t get positive results with a Ketogenic diet (aka Low Carb High Fat). Whether it is the Virta Health study or any one of various Obesity and Lifestyle Clinics around the country. It is pretty much common knowledge that about 50 % will get positive results, which usually mean weight loss or reversing diabetes. However that also means that 50% of those attempting the LCHF diet did not find any positive benefit for their efforts. WHY IS THAT THE CASE?This discussion is about exactly that. Going over some our collective (anonymous) results to reveal some of their common lab markers, metabolic problems that may have been an Invisible Obstacle for these people. It was only by looking deeper into areas that hadn’t been examined before, a Metabolic lab panel, Hormone panel, Intracellular nutrient panel, and Genome analysis, that we found problems that they didn’t know they had which could be easily improved and then make

  • Episode 77: Deep Dive Keto Course Testimony.

    13/09/2019 Duración: 37min

There’s two concepts that drive my passion for learning about and helping people implement the ‘Keto’ life style, and those are: 1. In order to be healthy in a progressively unhealthy world we need to think and act differently, and2. In order help people regain their health ( weight loss in this instance) one needs to look where where others haven’t looked in order to see, to understand, what others haven’t seen or don’t see. My point is that things have become more complicated today in terms understanding obesity and weight loss than it was 50 - 100 years ago. Today’s podcast is about that, looking at health parameters - basic and  esoteric - to understand what has been difficult to know previously. Hope you enjoy the conversation with a person who just finished their ‘Deep Dive Keto Course’ with us. • Episode 74: The 5 Things That Metabolically Block People from Achieving the Results They Seek With Keto

    21/08/2019 Duración: 51min

For some, this is the long a waited topic, conversation, that many feel represents their experience most accurately.  It's for the people who have endured the often unnecessary work of getting started with the Ketogenic diet only to have it become a thoroughly frustrating time and effort. For others, this might be too ‘granular’ in terms of talking about the specific variables required to create a successful outcome. For me it has become a realization in my ‘quest’ of how to have Keto work for everyone (barring specific medical conditions). The realization is that living in a progressively more unhealthy world we have to think about what it takes to be truely healthy in a different light.  Please join me in this quick review of some of the main obstacles to achieving great results with the Ketogenic lifestyle. I’m sure some of this will apply to your situation.Buy C8Keto MCT Oil on AmazonOur Facebook Group Keto NaturopathVisit our website for more podcasts, recipes, and informationUntil next time, Dr. Ka

  • Episode 70: Interview with Dr. Joan Ifland on processed food addiction Part 3

    19/07/2019 Duración: 35min

This is the final installment on our interview with Dr. Joan Ifland, on what is and how to deal with the Addiction to Processed Foods.  This is perhaps the most important issue in health care, rather self health care. Now that we collectively are entering an era where our health is determined by our dietary choice it is incredibly important to be aware of the ‘engineering’ of our food into great tasting junk devoid of nutrition. That is the state of processed foods today. As Dr. Ifland would say: These are not foods but addictive toxic substances.  It’s just a wonderful joy to talk about this area of health and diet with Joan. I admire her knowledge and courage to share this information.     Links THE EVIDENCE FOR ADDICTION TO PROCESSED FOODS C8 Keto MCT Oil: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MR2CYRS/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_7gFICbCS03CSH Our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/ketonaturopath/

  • Episode 69: Interview with Dr. Joan Ifland on processed food addiction Part Two

    13/07/2019 Duración: 44min

Perhaps now you have your eyebrows raised a bit from what was discussed in part one of the interview with Dr. Ifland, where we covered the nature of addiction the evolution of processed foods in today’s culture. You now know the consequences of blindly letting yourself or your family reach for another bag of doritos, or cheese puffs. Now the question remains what is inherently dangerous about them and how to ‘De-process food’ our diet and what does all of this have to do with the Ketogenic Diet anyway?   I hope you’ll enjoy listening to this conversation as much as I did in talking with Joan. • Episode 68: Interview with Dr. Joan Ifland on processed food addiction Part I

    04/07/2019 Duración: 01h01min

Perhaps there’s no more avoided topic in the entire field of dietary nutrition than “Processed Food Addiction”. The reason it is NOT discussed is because ‘processed foods’ is a vast, complicated, and for the most part, hidden and disguised as to not be easily identified to the consumer. To add to that, the concept of addiction is something we have a difficult time believing applies to us personally because it implies we can’t control our behavior. We tend to think of drugs, or alcohol or tobacco as being addictive but not Food, and certainly not 'Processed Foods'. It is nearly a TABOO topic because to admit we are addicted means we have to deal with our behavior, our neurology, and the chemical neuroscience and marketing techniques that are used by the food industry in general. Exactly right! Given the above, this might just be the most important podcast you ever listen to. Enjoy.   Links: Website: https://www.foodaddictionreset.com/about Book: Process Food Addiction https://www.amazon.com/Processed

  • Episode 67: Prequel to interview with Dr. Joan Ifland about Process Foods Addiction.

    25/06/2019 Duración: 42min

What does process food addiction have to do with the Ketogenic Diet? Initially the answer is by dropping the carbs you drop a lot of processed food, usually, in the process. However, for many, it's not that easy...as with most additions...‘Just saying no’ doesn’t always lead to stopping the behavior that we are addicted to. This topic explores the advent of the industrialization of processed foods that started in the late 1980 with the Tobacco companies buying up the food companies and bringing their expertise they learned with making cigarettes highly addictive to processed food.   They know how to make you want more, and more of these foods in a way you cannot control. In fact carbohydrates are addictive themselves, by themselves, add in the magic patented formula additives...to stimulate specific neurotransmitters...and you have just created the largest epidemic of obesity and diabetes the world has every seen.     Links What Is the Evidence for “Food Addiction?” A Systematic Review 2018   Abuse po

  • Episode 65: Interview with Dr. Christopher Palmer Talking about Behavioral Disorders and Keto part 3

    05/06/2019 Duración: 53min

That “cocktail of medications” used for treating behavioral disorders have their side effects as anyone who knows of someone using them would know...some with horrible side effects. Dr. Christopher Palmer, Psychiatrist at Harvard, has been using the Ketogenic Diet as a way to avoid all of that. His story is absolutely jaw-dropping. In this interview he will talk how a “metabolic” intervention might well be a miraculous alternative for people who have been living a lonely life numbed by layers of medications due to having a ‘behavioral disorder’. Completely fascinating. Links:www.ChrisPalmerMD.com Buy C8Keto MCT Oil on AmazonOur Facebook Group Keto Naturopath

  • Episode 64: Interview with Dr. Christopher Palmer Talking about Behavioral Disorders and Keto part II

    29/05/2019 Duración: 42min

I’m hoping you haven’t caught your breath yet from the first part of the interview where you learned of Dr. Palmer’s first exposure to the Atkins diet and how that changed his life and his father’s life. Now in part II, he delves deeper into the connection between Mental Disorders (Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Depression, Dementia, as examples) and metabolic disorders (diabetes, obesity, Cardio-vascular disorders, as examples). Think of epilepsy as an example of both and knowing the some of the medications used for epilepsy can also be used for these mental disorders...totally fascinating. www.ChrisPalmerMD.com Buy C8Keto MCT Oil on AmazonOur Facebook Group Keto NaturopathUntil next time, Dr. Karl

  • Episode 63: Interview with Dr. Christopher Palmer Talking about behavioral disorders and Keto Part 1

    23/05/2019 Duración: 45min

Brace yourselves for part 1 of a spectacular interview with a person who, in my view, is bringing Keto to places no one ever thought possible...Behavioral disorders. Then again, as Dr. Palmer points out the ketogenic diet was originally developed specifically for a behavioral disorder in the first place: Epilepsy. Take my word for it. You will love this interview...And will most definitely complain that you’ll have to wait an entire week for part II.  Links:www.ChrisPalmerMD.com Buy C8Keto MCT Oil on AmazonOur Facebook Group Keto NaturopathUntil next time, Dr. Karl

  • Episode 62: Prequel to an Interview with Dr. Christopher Palmer MD on Keto and Behavioral Disorders

    16/05/2019 Duración: 38min

To think most people only think the Ketogenic diet is about weight loss...so far from the truth. Nearly 100 years ago the ketogenic diet was created for a neurological disorder: epilepsy. Now 100 years later much of what works for epilepsy works for behavioral disorders as well. Makes Sense. To think though that a ‘dietary’ approach could work for Schizophrenia, Bi-polar, ADHD, Autism, Obsessive - compulsive disorders as well, is revolutionary. This is the very edge where Dr. Christopher Palmer is looking and using Keto. This podcast is a contextual introduction to some of what is being discovered in that area. • Episode 60: Part 2 of interview with Dr. Stephen Cunnane

    02/05/2019 Duración: 52min

Picking up where Dr. Cunnane left off in part one, we get into other aspects of ketones and what we know about them specifically, brain health, and how the brain’s ability to use ketones as a fuel does not diminish with age. Rather, it is our ability to use glucose as a fuel decreases. Due to the decreasing effectiveness of the insulin to get the glucose into the brain. Sometimes referred to as insulin resistance. The great news is ketones are not a problem and they are available. We talk about MCT Oils in general, and specifically. Also the production of GABA and it’s effect of calming the hyperexcitable states of certain neurologic conditions like Epilepsy but also Alzheimers.  Stephen Talks about the similarities between Alzheimers and Epilepsy and why some epilepsy medications help Alzheimers. • Episode 59: Current research on possible ways to restore brain function in the elderly with Dr. Stephen Cunnane

    25/04/2019 Duración: 40min

The are very, very few people such as Dr. Stephen Cunnane that have done so much work on ‘brain health’ with aging. Though he states others have come before him that have pointed to use of Ketones as an ‘alternative’ fuel for the brain, it is Dr. Cunnane’s work on the ‘Keto-Pet Scan’ that showed just how vital it is. To Many, the work of Dr. Cunnane offers incredible hope in how to restore brain function in those with MCI, mild cognitive impairment and AD. Enjoy listening to his comments on his work in this conversation we had together.   Links:His Book The Survival of the FattestHis work at The Institue for Food, Brain and BehaviorDr. Cunnane’s presentation at IHMCDr. Cunnane’s  presentation at Virta Health Summit Dr. Cunnane’s postion and work at Research Center on Aging at Sherbrooke Univerisity, Quebec, Canada Buy C8Keto MCT Oil on AmazonOur Facebook Group Keto NaturopathUntil next time, Dr. Karl

    17/04/2019 Duración: 30min

Dr. Stephen Cunnane’s work, his life work, has been very influential in how we understand brain health today.
