Habby Hour!

What an absolute pleasure it is to have none other then the voice of the Montreal Canadiens himself, Michel Lacroix! We catch up with him on how he has been doing with the PGA tours, life during COVID, and of course, the Habs! Some surprising little tidbits are scattered throughout the episode as we dive into the trades in the offseason, the draft, and what the overall future of the Habs is looking like going forward. To sum it up? Monsieur Lacroix is excited as are we! Also, we find out who his favorite Petry is, listen in! October 26, 2020.

Last month there was a bit of a scare on Habs Twitter when one  of the best people to cover the Habs, John Lu, announced that he had been battling COVID-19. Since then, we, and so many others, were relieved to see him return to cover the draft and free agency. And we were overjoyed when John agreed to come on the podcast with us tonight, We spent most of this episode talking to him about his experiences with COVID-19, and how he is feeling now. Suffice it to say, the virus is very real, and we all must continue to be mindful of the restrictions that we have been living with since this all started, and adhere to them. The latter part of the episode does get into some Habs talk where we discuss the all important Gallagher extension, and get into the details as to why Allen was given a contract extension. Finally! A new season of the Habby Hour! This comes whenever the draft happens, and of course due to COVID the calendar of the NHL season was changed, which means that OUR calendar changed! Either way, with the draft and free agency happening in one week there was a WHOLE lot to talk about, and we had none other than Grant McCagg with us to help navigate all of the news and draft picks made by the Habs. It's the season finale FINALLY! And we have a VERY special guest on with us! Unfortunately, we do not talk a whole lot about the all important draft tomorrow, but we do talk about the very important Nick Suzuki with none other than Mrs. Superior Propane herself, Amanda Suzuki! Nick's mom joins us for a full hour talking about what it's like raising an NHL player, how it all started, what the trade from Vegas was like, the playoff experiences at Guelph and Montreal, life during COVID and a whole lot more! That was the name of the game with this past week of Habs news, some AHL level contracts being locked up while the BIG news comes from Jeff Petry as he will be with the team for another 4 years! Since that is Veronica's favorite player, she was very happy! In other news, Dave got his account suspended, bad Dave! But, you can find him @MetalDave02 on Twitter just in case you were wondering. Tonight's episode starts off with scary news regarding John Lu, a repeat guest on the podcast and a dear friend. His Twitter account (@JohnLuTSNMTL) has a thread of his condition after having been diagnosed with COVID-19 and how he is doing now. The gang then air their grievances about COVID-19 and how so many people are still not taking it seriously. Hockey-wise, there's only so much news regarding the Habs! Has it finally happened? Did the Habs solve their backup goalie situation? The crew break down the latest trade for the Habs which might dictate how things will go for the rest of the off season. We touch on this, the Vejdemo loan, and take some time to talk about the Executive Inclusion Council which a member of the Habs' brass is a part of! With the Habs out of the playoffs, the crew make due in talking about what they can, and what happened in the past week? Well! A lot of stuff that Alain Vigneault certainly doesn't know! Beth and Veronica take the reins in talking about his attitude towards the #BlackLivesMatter movement and so, so much more. Particular emphasis is given to the strikes across the sports world as the NBA, MLS, and WNBA had games postponed in order to show solidarity with those that are grieving. And there you have it, after an unlikely entry into the qualifiers, after earning a spot in the playoffs, after going toe to toe with the top seeded team in the east, the Habs were finally eliminated in game 6 of the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs. And.. That's it! Veronica and Dave go over the highlights of the game, what to expect in the off-season from the Habs, and thoughts on the playoffs overall. And more! August 21, 2020.

If you were looking for a different game from the last two, well, YOU GOT IT. EVERYTHING happened. Goals in nearly every possible way, penalties galore, blood, scrums, yard sales, and it is now a NEW series as the Habs stay alive with a 5-3 win over the Flyers! The series is now 2-3 against the Habs who have to keep their playoff hopes alive on Friday. Dave and Veronica try to go through the highlights in this recap that includes a game misconduct for our SWEET BABY EAGLE. WHAT. August 20, 2020.

Well! Game 4 is in the books and the Habs are now officially on the wire. Tomorrow night is do or die hockey as nos Canadiens fell to the Flyers in a 0-2 decision. There are a lot of questions to be asked now! Where did the goals go? What will the Habs response be? What is there to do? Dave and Veronica have a talk (NOT a fight!) and try to make sense of what's going on in a game recap! August 18, 2020.

The result wasn't there, in fact, this game was very similar to the first game! The Habs and Flyers played as defensively hockey wise as they could, and all it took was a single deflection past Price to give the game to the Flyers. If you were not able to watch this game, you will HAVE to find a way to, because it was possibly the best hockey that the Habs have played in a decade. They smothered the Flyers from the start, and never let up on the gas. Price was Price, some big names contributed, and the kids are all right! Unfortunately, this comes a day after the hockey world became aware of Coach Julien's trip to the hospital due to experiencing chest pains in the evening after Game 1. It is not COVID related, and Julien is now resting well in Montreal. All indications point to him being in good health with nothing short but a full recovery expected! This gave Kirk Muller a chance to work with the boys, and the result speaks for itself. He and Julien had a plan and executed it. A 5-0 victory to tie the series! August 14, 2020.

The playoffs have officially began for our Montreal Canadiens! They are up against the top seeded Philadelphia Flyers, and game 1 proved to be a tight game from both teams! It ultimately ended in a loss for the Habs, but it wasn't without some astounding and promising play from a number of players. Yet, a bit extra from some usual suspects would help! Back to our regularly scheduled programming, hi! With the Habs winning the series against the Penguins their next opponent comes on Wednesday in the form of the Philadelphia Flyers. A match up that WILL be tough for a number of reasons, and they are all explained by a special guest, Dennis Bernstein! AND THAT'S IT. With a 2-0 shutout by Carey Price to stop the Penguins our Montreal Canadiens have advanced into the playoffs! It has been a long time coming, with the last series played against the Rangers, and then the seasons of sorrow that followed. During the course of the series the young guns stepped up in ways that cemented them as caliber players in the NHL. Who would have thought that we would be seeing Nick Suzuki taking draws and deployments against none other than Sidney Crosby?? It is a time for celebration! PLAYOFFS!!! August 8, 2020.

Well how about THAT. The stars were out tonight as the Habs take a lead in the series with a 4-3 win over the Penguins! A back and forth affair that saw the Habs take an early lead, only to go down 3-1, and then retake the lead with 3 unanswered goals! We talk about all of the highlights in tonight's recap of the game!

OH NO. It's like the qualifiers haven't even happened now! The Habs drop a decision against the Pens, 3-1. But! That was not to say that the Habs didn't put effort into it! The power play is still suffering, yet the penalty kill has been stellar, with BIG thanks to, the usual man, Carey Price!
