94 | Fur and Family at The Camden Assembly
17/07/2018 Duración: 34minToday's episode is all about the love; both for the band Fur, and for the making of music in general. The first people I speak to are Liam and Neanah, they are two newcomers to the UK Open Mic family and this was a chance to learn a little more about them. After that I went to see Fur headline (finally!) at Camden Assembly. And after their show I spoke briefly to: Harry, the lead guitarist of the band The family of the singer Murray - his Dad, Big Sister, Mum, and Future Brother-In-Law Marnie, the Big Sister of the drummer Flynn. And then, after all that, I had a quick chat with a musician who approached me on the train after overhearing me talk about my podcast. Hopefully that hasn't all made your head spin too much. You can find Fur's newest single - What Would I Do? - here: -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXZyDGwzfAc -- And Kitty O'Neal - the artist for whom Frazer plays - can be found here: -- https://www.instagram.com/kittyoneal_/ -- Thanks to everyone for their time, and especially the family of Fur

88 | An Incoherent Ramble
10/07/2018 Duración: 14minI've been a bucket of distraction of all day, and if nothing else this episode shows you how that sounds. I talk a little about watching artists perform live on TV, seeing early videos of bands before they get big, and I share a little more of my slow and painful process of recording. What more could you want? Today's shout out goes to Write-Along Movies. It's a very fun monthly event that is celebrating it's 1st birthday next Saturday at Genesis Cinema. 87 | THE Brandon Palmer at The Plough in Holborn
09/07/2018 Duración: 12minBrandon Palmer is a man on a mission, and he won't let no 9 - 5 stand in his way anymore. He'll be taking on some hosting duties at some of the open mics that I frequent, so after working with him on Sunday I stole a moment to talk about his plans for the future, and how - in his own way - It's Coming Home. You can get a front row seat to his rise and rise over at his website: -- https://www.thebrandonpalmer.com -- And my shout out today goes to all of the wonderful people that I follow on Instagram who let me be part of their awesome weekends via their posts. I would have liked to see The Cure and Interpol, but I honestly don't think I would have changed how my weekend ended up. (Well, maybe The Strokes playing would have been alright I guess). 86C - Pride Festival with Solomon, Espoir, and the Peter Tatchell Foundation
08/07/2018 Duración: 38minDuring Pride Festival I was particularly struck by the speech given by Peter Tatchell on behalf of the Peter Tatchell Foundation. They are a group that - in their words - seeks to promote and protect the human rights of individuals, communities and nations, in the UK and internationally. What caught my attention most about Peter's speech was who he had with him on stage: Espoir from Cameroon and Solomon from Uganda. As a Ugandan I must admit that I am only vaguely aware of how bad the conditions are for LGBT+ people there. Both Solomon and Espoir were kind enough to share the appalling truth of their experiences back home that have lead them to seek asylum in the UK. Their stories are at times uncomfortable to hear, but it is important that their voices are heard. Thank you - from the bottom of my heart - to Espoir, Peter, and Solomon for taking the time to talk to me. If what you hear in this episode moves you at all, please take the time to learn more about their work at -- https://www.petertatchellfoundati

86A - (Not) The Strokes at Dingwalls with Louise
08/07/2018 Duración: 59minSaturday 7th July was ALMOST the day that I saw The Strokes for the first time, but it was definitely the day that I met Louise of shesfixingherhair.co.uk fame. There was a real rollercoaster of emotions felt at Dingwalls on this sweltering morning, and I just so happened to record the whole thing as it happened. So in this episode, inbetween talking to Louise and finding out more about her history with The Strokes, you will hear the mood change as we few 100-odd Strokes fans discover in real time that this secret "Venison" gig was not meant to be. Thank you to everyone that let me talk to them during this tumultuous time, especially Louise. You can find her at: Twitter -- https://www.twitter.com/shesfixing -- Website -- https://www.shesfixingherhair.co.uk/blog -- And my shout out for these episodes is the next Black Malt Bottle Share Club event which is happening on Sunday 22nd July at Merchants Tap in Hackney Wick. The focus of this event will be on Mental Health and Safe Drinking. Check out -- https://www.

86B - Playing at Pride Festival with Keeana Kee and Jenn Shahid
08/07/2018 Duración: 11minKeeana Kee is a pop music performer originally from Latvia. After meeting and performing with her at one of my open mic nights, she invited me to perform with her at the London Pride Festival on the Women's stage. I had never done anything like this before, and I am incredibly grateful to both Keeana and her wife and manager Alana for inviting me to join them on this amazing occasion. In this episode you will hear me talk to Jenn Shahid - one of the people responsible for making this whole event possible - and you will hear a bit of my performance with Keeana too. Thank you to everyone for your time, it was a fantastic day. 85 - Kirsty Clarke at The London Welsh Centre
07/07/2018 Duración: 21minThe conversation in this episode is with Kirsty Clarke who is a very evidently enthusiastic performer and creator. I'm very grateful to her for her time, and you can find out more about her and her work here: -- https://www.facebook.com/Kirsty.Clarke.Beating.Hearts -- And today's shoutouts include: FUR, who have a new single out called What Would I Do. -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXZyDGwzfAc -- https://soundcloud.com/furfurfur -- Keeana Kee, who is performing as part of the London Pride event today. She'll be at The Women's Stage in Leicester Square at 16:45, and I'll be drumming with her. -- https://twitter.com/keeanakee -- And there's a chance that The Strokes are playing in London tonight. I wouldn't know if it wasn't for Lou who is - to my knowledge - THE number one fan of The Strokes. -- https://twitter.com/shesfixing -- And instead of original music from me at the end, today's episode ends with an original piece by an artist named Jason. Hopefully I'll get a link to their music next time we cross

26/06/2018 Duración: 22minToday's episode, my 18th recorded from an open mic, isn't from one of my own nights. This time I am at Roadtrip and The Workshop on Old Street. They have an open mic every Monday, and on this episode I talk to a few of the performers from last night's show, as well as the person that runs the show. 81 | Recording 01 - Bass and vocal on Midnight
25/06/2018 Duración: 31minRiding solo again on this one, and giving you a tour of the "studio". It's been a very long time since I recorded some actual music, so on today's episode I break that drought. It's a bit of a detailed tour through my tools and my process but hopefully it makes sense. And who knows, maybe someone who listens to this might learn something, or even better someone might be able to teach me something. Oh, can't forget today's shout outs: Joshua Lloyd and his mission to amass a #JLArmy: -- https://www.twitter.com/realjoshualloyd -- Factory Seconds have released a new single called "The Sleepwalkers", and they are playing The Waiting Room on Wednesday 27th June: -- https://www.twitter.com/factory2ndsband -- Thanks for listening. 80 | THANK YOU STARCRAWLER (feat. Shaun Keaveny and Foo Fighters)
24/06/2018 Duración: 43minThis episode would not physically exist without the generosity of Starcrawler, hence the title. I saw them support Foo Fighters at London Stadium as part of their guestlist. It was the most surreal live music experience I've ever had. I mean, Shaun Keaveny was there! I ramble for what is quite possibly my longest intro yet, so skip to 19:00 to get to the conversations. The first of which is with Jo and Cath who are two very enthusiastic fans of Foo Fighters, and then with Shaun Keaveny who hosts the breakfast show on BBC 6 Music. Thank you to Cath ( -- https://www.instagram.com/lady_catherine_turner/ -- ), Jo ( -- https://www.twitter.com/jojotomo -- ), Shaun Keaveny ( -- https://www.twitter.com/shaunwkeaveny -- ), and of course: STARCRAWLER ( -- https://www.starcrawlermusic.com -- ). 23/06/2018 Duración: 42minToday's episode was recorded at Harry Quinn's show at The Courtyard. I loved the performance. I'm in love with the venue. I'm in love with the neighbourhood. And I'm very sleep-deprived and excited, so before I ramble here as much as I ramble on this episode, let me list what you have to look forward to: Today's shout out: Hoxton Fish House on 59 Pitfield Street Today's guests: Paul Quinn: Harry Quinn's dad Dan Caleb: -- https://www.instagram.com/dancalebmusic -- Adam Kay: ukopenmic's Number One Fan Justin Grealy: -- https://www.soulsound.co.uk -- Harry Quinn: -- https://www.harryquinnmusic.com -- Ali Ajel: -- https://www.instagram.com/aliajelmusic -- Thank you to everyone I spoke to, both on and off the mic.
