This week on the Colin and Samir Podcast, we talk about our latest movie, The Lost Pyramid, with Ammar Kandil of Yes Theory. If you haven’t heard about it yet, we spent the last month working on a movie with our friends at Yes Theory, it was one of our toughest projects to date, but we’re really excited about the story that we got to tell.  On this episode we talk to Ammar about the process of making the film, and bring you guys behind the scenes of what our last few weeks have been like working on this movie. We also talk about how we released the film, which was a total experiment for us - We released the movie using a “pay what’s fair” model - meaning that the audience gets to decide how much they want to contribute to watch the movie.  So this is now our 3rd documentary this year and our second documentary with Yes Theory, and also our second podcast with Ammar, if you haven’t heard the first one definitely go back and check that out, there are some awesome stories in there.  If you haven’t seen the doc

 This week on the Colin and Samir Podcast, we’re joined by Yes Theory’s head editor, Thomas Dajer. We talk about the ups and downs of what it’s like to be a full time editor, and TD has been editing full time for 4 years now. In those 4 years, Yes Theory has built an audience of over 4 million subscribers and TD has edited videos that have gotten over 416M views on YouTube Alone, including a number of videos that have over 10M views.  Editing is one of the most important crafts in filmmaking, especially on youtube - it’s where the story comes together, and it’s what separates the good channels from the great ones. Some creators take on the edits themselves and some bring on others to help tell their stories - the bottom line is, without editing, films don’t get made. Editing is also where a lot of creators tend to burn out - long hours, not much sleep, creative roadblocks, software problems, the list goes on. When we left our stable jobs and starting chasing the dream of becoming filmmakers, we didn’t know what to expect, and to be honest, we never expected it to be as hard as it has proven to be. This week on the Colin and Samir Podcast we talk about how media, and specifically social media, plays into defining the identities we all connect with and aspire to be like. We talk about masculinity - which is an interesting topic, because most of our lives and careers have been connected to sports - and sports play a big role in defining masculinity. This has to be one of the most interesting conversations that Coin and I have had to date and i’m curious to hear your opinion once you get to the end of the episode. On this weeks episode we talk about a big first for us, We made a documentary for Television - a 22 minute special for NBC sports. We talk about how we got the project and the lessons we’ve learned from what turned out to be, the toughest creative project of our lives.

This week on the Colin and Samir podcast we take a question from anchor that inspired the topic for the episode, self doubt.  Self doubt is something that we all deal with in some capacity but it is especially relevant for creators and artists. We deal with self doubt on a regular basis and we share some stories from our personal experience with the emotion.  We also give advice on how to deal with self doubt and give an update on our skydiving experience from last week.  Thanks to everyone who has reviewed the podcast and everyone who has left us a voice message on anchor, we seriously appreciate all the support. This week on the Colin and Samir Podcast we’re talking about a big moment that we experienced earlier this week. We got invited to an event from a brand we’ve always wanted to work with - and on this episode we reflect on the experience as well as talk about the importance of having a defined North Star when you are creating content or really just trying to bring any idea to life.  We also answer your questions from the anchor app - we integrate those question throughout the episode - thanks to everyone who submitted questions for this week, we’re going to try and integrate more questions in our episodes. 

Today on the show we are talking about the value of sticking to a schedule when it comes to creating content. Appointment viewing is nothing new in entertainment - live sports and shows like Game of Thrones have found tons of success by committing to a release schedule. On this episode we get into our desire to find a consistent release schedule on YouTube, the value of doing so, and the struggles we’ve had every time that we’ve tried. Today on the Colin and Samir podcast we're talking about social media use...specifically Instagram and the effect it's had on our lives as creators.  Social media addiction is a phrase you're probably hearing a lot right now and we're seeing many of our friends deleting these apps off of their phones and taking breaks from them, something we've done ourselves recently.  We've actually been taking a break from content creation in general and as you probably know this is our first episode back in almost a month.  In this episode Colin and I dive into our own social media use, what we like, don't like, and how we keep our time on social media apps like Instagram in check.  Towards the end of the episode we talk about some of Instagram's newest product features that get us excited to create with it moving forward.

Colin and I met when we were 22 and have been working together ever since. Our twenties were filled with experimentation, successes, failures and a lot of adventures along the way.
