Our guest for today is Irene Teodor. She is managing a advocacy project within JRS, a Romanian NGO. We will talk a bit about their practice, projects, the Romanian legislation for asylum seekers and her personal experience working within the NGO.

Hello everyone! Welcome to the Refugees Radio Maastricht , a new initiative from Refugee Project Maastricht! For those of you that don’t know, RPM creates a community of care by building bridges between people of different backgrounds in order to empower them to thrive in Maastricht & beyond. The main goal for the podcast will be to serve as a platform for asylum seekers to share their own stories, opinions and insights on their experiences. In addition to this, the podcast will explore different subjects from culture, customs, arts to politics. I am Xhoi, the voice project’s team leader and today I am joined by Amjad Kayali. We talked a bit about his experience as a Syrian refugee, but mainly we wanted to share his side of the story on the situation of asylum seekers in the AZC’s, the Dutch Asylum seekers centers.

For this hour, we discuss ableism, the systematic discrimination that disabled people face. Is disability an issue with the body itself, or the society in which we live?

During hour, we will speak about dementia. Dementia is covering a surprisingly vast range of diseases and disabilities which is why we would like to bring a new perspective on the topic that is different from the view that “it is normal for old people to have dementia”.

Today I am talking with Nour who is an allumni of the University College Maastricht and now based in Brussels. Being a Queer person of color, Nour speaks about her relation to her own sexuality, gender, as well as race and how binary understandings of these identity categories are long obsolete as the reality is far more complex than that. She describes how looking beyond one binary has triggered other forms of challenging and deconstructing who she was "supposed to be" and instead come closer to her authentic, multi-layered self.
