When giving someone your word, you are putting your integrity on the line, your integrity is what helps build your character. If you cant keep your word, you are just showing people that you are not trust worthy and people begin to think less of you. If you give some one your word, honestly, you should hold to it, and if you cant then you tell them and try to make up for it.
