Hugh Ballou of Synervision(TM) - a term that is a combination of synergy and vision -  was a conductor for 40 years, and still does some every now and then.  Leading symphonies and choirs, he says, required more leadership skills than musical ones.  In fact, he says 90% of his job was leadership. Those same skills can benefit leaders in any field, so Hugh now coaches entrepreneurs and other business managers in those same skills. The "coachee" has to know the other 10% - the part specific to his/her industry - but the other 90% he'll teach you.   In this show, he talks about how the classic Job Description can be the death of creativity and boring business meetings are the #1 team killer.  He shows you how you can delegate without giving up control, but still allowing your team the autonomy needed to make them feel valued and, therefore, be more productive. This was scheduled to be the last broadcast of 2013, on Christmas Day, but technical glitches far beyond my control or that of any of my colleagues prevented that from happening. But it’s such a good show that I’m airing it this week. It’s going to be a Christmas classic, you’ll see.  I had just done something I almost never do. I had forwarded a mass email. It contained a link to the most amazing and wonderful version of The Twelve Days of Christmas I have ever heard. It was by the a cappella group, Straight No Chaser, originally from Indiana University. Inspired by that, and by the fact that I did not have much voice at the time due to a sinus infection, I decided to prerecord a show filled with other wonderful variations on well-known Christmas songs. Mannheim Steamroller was the first that I'm aware of to give us a completely fresh take on one of them – I think it was Deck The Halls – so that is in the show. There's a new body working technique in town!  It's called Muscle Activation Technique (MAT) and it's breaking all the rules.  Some of the personal trainers at Brick Bodies workout centers are using it, including this morning's guests, Rommie Wheeler (minus the dreads) and Mike Caplan.   Very little – almost no – pressure is used, yet it has dramatic effects, very quickly.  It is primarily used for chronic conditions.  In fact, a lot of the people they get on their table have run out of options.  It's this or surgery.  The person on the table feels like they're not doing anything.  But when they get up and walk, they do it a whole lot better!   I can attest to this.  Mike has been treating me for about five months.  I couldn't run at all when I came to him; then I could run half a mile with the aid of a resistance band; now I can do half a mile without the band.  Can the high school track be far away for me? Come learn about this amazing new technique.
