Genesis 22: 1-19

Genesis 1:2-3 God as Creator… author of life… and the one who ‘spoke’ and still speaks. Jesus as ‘the Word’.

1 Peter 2:9 1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.” The people of God (baptism, the universal church, the local church), the family of God, the body of Christ, a holy temple, the bride of Christ.

1 Corinthians 12, Romans 12, Ephesians 4, Exodus 31:1-5 - Gifts for serving, leading, and the miraculous.

Ephesians 5:18 - "Do not get drunk with wine which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit." 1 Corinthians 14:1 “Eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophesy.” …what happens when people are filled with the Holy Spirit?

Philippians 2:13 - “For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.“

John 14:16-17a “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.“).

John 17:21 & 23 I come from an era of church history that has done our level best at being attractive. It doesn’t make sense to me to be repellent, though there were times when Jesus seemed to be almost pushing people away. Could it be that through surrender to Jesus comes genuine belonging? Is it possible that our greatest invitation to the world is the witness of our union with Christ? …John 17:21 & 23

John 15:9-17 Some look at the church and observe a consumeristic mentality at work among us. What do I get? Is it good value for my investment of time or donations? But Jesus called His disciples to something that was costly. In our “God Is For Us” series we’ve been identifying the invitation to follow Jesus as more than membership, more than family, more than objective belief and more than philosophical belief. Can we speak frankly? To become a disciple of Jesus will be costly. You may need to consider it a warning sign if following Jesus has cost you nothing. Can we talk honestly about this?

John 15:1-2 So, what is this fruit that the Father is pruning we branches towards? (John 15:1-2) When the summer harvest is maturing, what ought be evident in my life? …Galatians 5:16-26 or 22-26

Ephesians 1:3 Believing in Jesus is an invitation into the blessings of the Father! Jesus is “the way” (Jn. 14:6) to the Father. And His gift to you is the blessing of “peace" (Jn.14:27) and “joy" (Jn. 15:11)! I’ve never met anyone who said they had too much peace or joy. Let’s understand these gifts, given by the Father, to the Son and worked into our lives by the Spirit—experienced as we dwell in Christ and He dwells in us! ...Ephesians 1:3, NIV 'Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. '

John 14:15-27 We’re continuing to explore the reality that “God Is For Us!”. This week we’re turning to John 14:15-27.

John 15:1-11 What is the relationship Jesus has invited us into? What does it mean to become a Christian? What does it mean to “abide in Jesus”? What does it mean to “believe in Jesus”? We’re going to dig into these questions as we open up John 15:1-11

Acts 2:22-40 recounts the first public explanation of that first Easter Weekend. What were the followers of Jesus thinking? How did they respond to the many questions floating around? What were they calling people to do in response? Listen to Jesus' close friend Peter, as he answers these questions 50 days after the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 27:1-26 Matthew describes 3 actors who all get what they asked for, but none of them end up with what they wanted. It won’t be difficult to find ourselves in this. The question will be “what do we do once we’ve recognized ourselves in this story?”

Matthew 26:57-75 Matthew 26:57-75 covers more than just the Kangaroo Court trial of Jesus. Matthew has Peter on trial too. What do we do when our faith has crumbled? Is there any coming back when we’ve disappointed ourselves, those we love, and our God?
