We live in a world focused on "what you look like," compared to some ideal created by media. So, many people feel inadequate -- leading to giving up or dysfunctional lifestyles. Others simply pretend they don't inhabit a body. That is no better. People act as if their physical body doesn't count, ignoring the fact that their body is what takes them through life in this world. What if the focus was on being healthy and well? As well as possible, and healthy as possible, given the limits of each person's own body. Might that be a better "third way?" During this series, I tried to focus on some big rubrics of a thriving body: eating to nourish that body, exercising to build that body, resting to recharge that body, de-stressing to reduce the wear-and-tear on the body. Calming Your Thriving Body

We all have moments of feeling a bit overwhelmed and frazzled. We all have times when we react to some event. Our body comes along for the ride. Adrenaline spikes, headaches strike, stomachs get upset, palms get sweaty. . . our body goes into Fight/Flight mode. Not a pretty picture, and not very fun. We all have our coping strategies. Some are helpful and healthy, others -- not so much. Some people crawl under the covers and hide from those events. Others rely on a few choice substances to forget those events or at least numb the body. But some have found other, healthier, ways to face the events, understand their response, and move through the responses. That is all about exercise. I look for the M.E.D. (Minimally Effective Dosage) of exercise. What is the minimum you need to do, in order to get your body in shape? It takes FAR less time than you might imagine. In fact, many people OVER-exercise and miss the mark of building a thriving body. They end up tearing it down, all in the effort of building it up. But a thriving body. We all have limits and limitations. But how can we best live a thriving life, physically? This became important to me when I was sick, realizing that I had neglected an important part of thriving: your body has to take you through life. With that in mind, we look at how you fuel your body. I want to share my own journey of understanding the foods that best nurture my body. We may not agree on all the pieces. Your Thriving Body
04/07/2016 Duración: 17minSomehow I missed it. I was cruising through life, doing my thing, working hard, and trying to move forward. What did I miss? That my body was what took me through life. And it was quite a rude awakening. Like a doctor telling you and your wife that you were headed for total disability -- and then death. That will wake you up! (Well, it woke me up, for sure.) Here I was, learning about thriving and resilience, and my body was NOT thriving. I was overweight, out of shape -- and almost out of time! You can hear the whole story in this week's podcast. But clearly, I did not die (at least, not yet). And I began to recover my lost health. I got serious about this body that had to carry me through life. And I learned a few lessons along the way. The KNAC Protocol To Help You Get Unstuck

But it is still information. For knowledge to be power, something else needs to be applied: Action. Action, based on knowledge, then becomes power. But here's the hook: Action that is important is always accompanied by fear. If there is no fear, it is routine, normal, and just an action. Give Up Your Goals To Get Unstuck
09/05/2016 Duración: 25minAs counter-intuitive as it sounds, if you are stuck, one of the first things to do is give up your goals. Which may lead you to think that my idea of getting unstuck just means that you leave things the way they are. Instead of being stuck, you might be stranded. Nope. That is NOT what I mean. You see, I think that goals often cause us to be even more stuck. Most of the time, people fail at the goals they set (look no further to the empty gyms in late January). Not only that, but if someone achieves a goal, they often then slip away from the goal, falling back "below the line." And, by the way, the best you can do is get "to the line." Not very appealing, is it? Not only that, but many goals we create are not even within our control. If you have the goal to make the football team, a coach has to choose you. You Are NOT As Stuck As You Feel

There are some reasons we get stuck. But I truly believe we are never quite as stuck as we feel. How You Get Stuck

How we get stuck is merely a starting point. The real task is how to get un-stuck and moving toward our aspirations. When we are stuck, we can't be thriving. Is Comfort Killing You?

Here is the problem: we find something comfortable, something "better," something bigger. Then, instead of bigger, better, more comfortable, it just becomes the routine. Quickly, it is "just" a home/car/watch/whatever. The dream disappears. Or go the other way: lose a job, have to downsize. At first, it hurts. Then, it becomes a new normal. You "habituate," either way. The problem is, our insatiable move toward comfort becomes more and more limiting: "I'll only fly first class," "I have simple tastes: only the best," etc., etc. Food gets richer, exercise has to be "comfortable," and we find ourselves unable to tolerate discomfort. Here is the problem: every life has discomfort and struggle. When we are alway
