Worst. Comic. Podcast. Ever!

This week, we are trying something new with the show. We have put together some audio highlights of our panels at Smallville Con last month.  Of course, the highlight of the weekend had to be John hosting Superman himself, actor Dean Cain. Lots of super moments from that panel to look forward to in this week's podcast. In addition, we have some great moments with the panels from Eddie McClintock, Steven WIlliams and Corin Nemec. And before you ask, yes, we also did panels with David Nykl and Mindy Sterling. Unfortunately, the audio quality from those panels was a little rough. By the end of the day, we had figured out the sound system at Smallville, so next year will be even better.  Now, we didn't get our Pick 3 selections made yet for new comics coming out next week, but check out social media feeds early next week to get our choices for what you should be picking up at your LCS on July 11.  We would love to hear your comments on the show. We are just two weeks away from the start of O Comic Con! This fourth-year con has become one of our favorites to attend, with great crowds, friendly guests, and corgis! To get the lowdown on OCC, we have invited Matt Fujan and Rebekah Brownfield to give us all of the details for the con coming up July 13-15.  If you attend OCC, be sure to stop by Podcast Alley and find the Worst. Another busy week for the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! John is back from his European vacation, so the guys have a lot to catch up on over the last two weeks. Things have been busy at DC Comics in the last week. A tease over the weekend hinted at comic books being part of the DC Universe streaming service, which has the guys ready to get out their wallets. And earlier this week, Geoff Johns stepped down (or was forced out) as DC's Chief Creative Officer, only to be replaced by DC Co-Publisher Jim Lee. It is almost time for the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! crew to make the trek to Smallville, KS! That's right, the childhood home town of Superman! Of course, we are making the visit to coincide with the fifth Smallville Con, taking place June 23 and 24 at the Kansas State Fair Grounds. Every now and then, a comic project comes along that is more powerful than the latest superhero crossover; more epic that sci-fi stories set a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away; and more breathtaking that the latest adaption of a Hollywood blockbuster. These are comics based on real world events, intended to help bring together the community to help heal a painful wound. Such is the case with Where We Live, an anthology project from Image Comics. This book is a fundraiser for the victims and survivors of the Las Vegas shootings in 2017. Dozens of top comic creators have donated their stories and art to this project. Back at the Image Expo earlier this year, Cullen sat down with two of the creators, J.H. Doing this podcast has given the WCPE guys the chance to meet and become friends with a lot of great creators over the years. So we get very excited when our friends have a new project they are launching, especially when it is through Kickstarter. Such is the case with writer Roland Mann. We spoke to Roland when he had his Tiny Kickstarter going, and that was a solid success. Roland is back with another Kickstarter, and he has rounded up some familiar faces from the Malibu Comics offices to make an all-new Cat & Mouse #1. Now, if Cat & Mouse sounds familiar, it was one of Roland's first comic works back in the early 1990s. And it's a series that people still ask him about to this day. So why not put a new spin on the concept with a brand new mini-series. The Kickstarter project covers the costs to print and publish issue #1. OK, the Gauntlet has been thrown!  With the release of Avengers: Infinity War in theaters this weekend, the guys at the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! thought it would be appropriate to dive into the back issue boxes and re-read the classic mini-series from 1991, The Infinity Gauntlet. So much of what happens in the new Avengers movie gets its start with this story, so this is the perfect time to revisit one of Jim Starlin's epic tales, with a fine assist on art by the likes of George Perez and Ron Lim.  In addition, we have our weekly Pick 3 for next week, sponsored by our good friends at Clint's Comics. Over the years, comics have seen a lot of change. Characters die, and new characters are created. Heroes become villains, and vice versa. Titles are renumbered, rebooted, and sometimes replaced. But there has been one constant for 80 years. Action Comics, which celebrates the publication of it's 1000th issue this week! This is not your normal monthly release. This is Action Comics #1000! It doesn't get any bigger than this for Superman, DC Comics or comic fandom. With multiple stories from all-star creators, packaged with incredible covers representing all the different eras of the Man of Steel, this issue is a true reason to celebrate.  And we did celebrate! On that day, WCPE invited friends and family to join us in the virtual studio—to talk about comics that featured the number 200!
