  • WCPE Episode 194 - Black Panther and Con Recaps

    02/03/2018 Duración: 01h12min

Sooooo, seen any good movies lately? We are here to sing the praises of Black Panther! This is the new standard for all comic-book movies - a beautiful, well-acted film which left the audience thinking and talking and going back to see it again and again. By our humble estimation, the only thing that could have made this movie better was finding a way to include Nicholas Cage into this soon-to-be masterpiece.  But before we can talk about the movie, we have some con recaps to share with you. We have finally rested up after the epic 2018 Planet Comicon, and have all kinds of stories to share with you. The panels, our friends, and most importantly our work for the Hero Initiative. If you haven't seen our Facebook post, we did some incredible things for this worthwhile cause, so thank you Kansas City! In addition, Cullen attended the Image Comics Expo in Portland last week, followed by the Hillsboro Library Comicfest. At the Image Expo, Cullen played the part of mild-mannered reporter for an upstart podcast, giv

  • WCPE Episode 193 - Live from Planet Comicon 2018

    23/02/2018 Duración: 50min

What a weekend! The guys from the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! stayed busy all weekend long at Planet Comicon. We hosted some comic panels, raised some funds for the Hero Initiative, had some BBQ, crashed a party or two, found some comics... did we do anything else? OH YEAH, WE HOSTED ANOTHER LIVE PANEL AT PLANET COMICON! All three of us on stage together, making jokes, telling stories, and answering questions.  So sit back and give the show a listen. Pretend you are sitting in the audience. Sorry, we can't give out any prizes over the podcast airwaves, so consider this episode your gift. As always, a big thank you to the Chris Jackson and the Planet Comicon crew for putting on one of the best shows in the country. We are already making our plans for March 2019! We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or by email. • WCPE Episode 192 - Countdown to Planet Comicon!

    15/02/2018 Duración: 54min

Happy Comicon Eve, Kansas City! We are a day early this week, so consider yourself the lucky winner! We've got a lot to do ahead of the start of the show tomorrow, so we are going to get things going with the podcast today! Before we can get into Planet Comicon, we've got to wrap things up with Cullen's recap of I Like Comic Con last weekend in Vancouver, WA. Raising money for the Hero Initiative, hanging out with the likes of Jim Steranko and Neal Adams, and seeing familiar friends - it doesn't get much better than that!  Of course, the next party starts tomorrow at Bartle Hall in Kansas City. You can find the WCPE guys manning the Hero Initiative table at #1030. Next to us will be comic creator Ty Templeton at #1032. He will be signing books, sketching characters and telling stories all weekend long. Please stop by our tables to say, receive hugs, and help us raise some money for an awesome cause. Now, hopefully everyone has 1:00 Sunday afternoon blocked out on your calendars to attend the Worst. Comic. Pod

  • WCPE Episode 191 - Interview with Ron Randall

    09/02/2018 Duración: 52min

If you've read any comic books over the last 30 years, odds are you have read a Ron Randall issue or two along the way. From Conqueror of the Barren Earth to Justice League International to Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire and most recently Future Quest, Ron's pencils and stories have covered every possible genre there is.  But the one book he is most associated with is his own creation, Trekker, which is the ongoing adventures of bounty hunter Mercy St. Clair. Since the late 1980s, Ron has been telling Mercy's story at Dark Horse Comics.  Ron has a new set of Trekker stories to get out, and he has a Kickstarter launching on February 20 to make that happen. The work is done; the Kickstarter is to cover the publishing costs, so you will see the finished product if you support this initiative. Check back in here in two weeks, and we will have a link to the Kickstarter. In the meantime, check out Ron Randall's website to see all of the different projects he's worked on, and where you can sample Trekker before yo

  • WCPE Episode 190 - 2018 Planet Comicon Preview

Our bags are packed, books to be autographed have been pulled out, and bail money has been set aside. Bring on the party at the pillar!  To get us fully prepared for all things Planet Comicon, we have brought in owner Chris Jackson to give us the full scoop on everything going on with the show, which runs February 16-18 at Bartle Hall. From comic book creators to celebrity guests to after-hours parties and so much more. There is something for everyone at Planet Comicon. Now for the fans of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. • Kickstarters We Love! - Ghost Assassin

    01/02/2018 Duración: 31min

We love comics and we love creators who take their visions and dreams and bring them to life outside of the traditional publishing processes. This week we interviewed Adam Watson to talk about his project, Ghost Assassin, and the ongoing Kickstarter campaign. Ghost Assassin is the tale of a hitman-for-hire who has the ability to see and interact with ghosts. Unfortunately for David the ghosts are the people he's murdered. Adam's journey to bring this book to life has taken some wild turns and his marketing and distribution channel plan is just what the comic industry is needing right now. (hint: What are you reading at the tattoo shop while you get inked?) The art for this project is handled by Joel Cotejar and Charles Carvalho with coloring by Edward Bola and Gulliver Silva.  The cover for issue #1 is penciled by Joel Cotejar with coloring by Ceci De La Cruz. Adam will be at I Like Comicon February 10 - 11 with merch and information about the project and the Kickstarter campaign runs through February 21st.

  • WCPE Episode 189 - I Like Comic Con Preview

    26/01/2018 Duración: 01h02min

It's good to be Cullen in February. See, he gets a three week run that month of attending a con each weekend. First up is I Like Comic Con which will be in Vancouver, WA, on February 10 & 11. For it being a first-year show, the guest list reads like a Who's Who of comic royalty. Jim Steranko, Neal Adams, Gail Simone, Ron Randall, Howard Chaykin, James O'Barr and the list keeps going. To get everything set up for the con, Cullen sat down with show owner Chris Simons to get all of the details for the show coming up soon! Of course, we will welcome Cullen back to Kansas City for Planet Comicon February 16-18. Tune back in next week, same Bat Time, same Bat Channel, to get all of the details for Kansas City's biggest convention. And if you pay close attention, you may start seeing some announcements this weekend for Cullen to appear at Comics Fest in Hillsboro, OR, on February 24 & 25. But we still have a show to do this week! In addition to our interview with Chris Simons, we also discuss: Boob Armor! W

  • WCPE Episode 188 - Black Lightning Debut

    19/01/2018 Duración: 01h12min

No time for niceties this week. We've got a lot to cover on today's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! So enough with the jibber jabber, let's write about what you are going to hear us talk about.  John starts out with quick recaps from this week's episodes of Supergirl and The Flash. Bu we really want to talk about the awesomeness that is the CW's new super-hero hit, Black Lightning. You won't get any "Jive Turkeys" out of us, as we were all impressed with the quality and direction for the show. Let's hope this finds a regular spot in the already crowded CW line-up.  We make our picks for next week's books - Marvel 2-in-One #2, Scooby-Doo Team-Up #34 and Abbott #1 make our list. But can you guess which podcaster chose which book?  Next up we discuss the 2017 year-end numbers from Diamond. What were the best selling comic books and collected editions from the last year? Who was the top publisher of the year in terms of market share? We like to believe that we made some interesting observations along

  • WCPE Episode 187 - Exiting Stage Left with Snagglepuss

    12/01/2018 Duración: 01h02min

Another week and another podcast from the guys at the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! We are slowly working our way towards Episode 200, which means we should probably start thinking ahead and figure out what we want to do for that. Right guys? In the meantime, we are going to give you the best darn 187th episode we've ever done! (Never mind the fact that it the first 187th episode we've ever done...) So, on today's show, we discuss: The DC Comics book collections for sale at Ollie's that is all the rage on social media. The accusations against Stan Lee, and what fanboys should do or not do in this situation.  Our three picks for next week's releases, brought to you by the fine folks at Clint's Comics.  Reviews of Batman: White Knight and Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles from DC Comics.  A look ahead to Black Lightning debuting on the CW, and the possibility of a Black Widow movie from Marvel.  The announcement of our new WCPE T-shirt which will be available at Planet Comicon for pick-up. • WCPE Episode 185: Star Wars: The Last Jedi Review

    29/12/2017 Duración: 01h17min

So, still want a glass of fresh blue milk? The guys are back in the recording studios to discuss Star Wars: The Last Jedi. What did we like, what didn't we like, and what has us shaking our heads still trying to make sense of after viewing the latest addition to the Skywalker story.  While this should go without saying, we will say it here and now: We are going to spoil everything we can. So if you happen to be one of the seven people who still have not seen this movie, go see it and then come back to listen to our review.  We would love to hear your comments on the show. • WCPE Episode 183 - Star Wars Eve

    15/12/2017 Duración: 48min

It's a Hollywood-focused episode from the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! this week. Not to fear, we do get some comic talk in throughout the show. Now, we record on Wednesday nights, so at the time of this recording, the Disney acquisition of Fox was still just a speculation. Since then, the deal has gone through and we can soon hope to see an Avengers vs. X-Men sometime during Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anyway, we offer our somewhat-dated thoughts as to what this might mean for the Marvel film franchise. Then we turn our attention over to DC, and the reported shake-up in their film brain trust due to the un-Avengers like performance of Justice League.  Next, we do a rundown of some possible gift ideas for the comic-loving geek in your life. Especially if you are that comic-loving geek. It's OK to pick up something for yourself. Or pick up something for your favorite podcasters.  Finally, we offer up our expectations for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which has already earned a gajillion dollars since

  • WCPE Episode 182 - Batman Annual 2 Discussion

    08/12/2017 Duración: 01h10min

Welcome back to the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! The longest-running, lowest-rated podcast in our market.  On our show this week, we dive into Batman Annual #2 from Tom King, Lee Weeks, and Michael Lark. I think this one all touched us in a special way - but not in a Congressional way. Seriously though, this is a spectacular issue with tremendous art to compliment a comic book love story.  Sticking with DC, we discuss the recent promotions for the New Age of DC Comics, a line of books launching in early 2018. What intrigues us is the artistic talent being listed first in the credits ahead of the writers.  The guys go over some recent reads, and we take a quick look back at Milestone Comics, which was recently featured on AMC's Secret History of Comics. We also look ahead to the 2018 Planet Comicon, with a guest list that has us very excited to be comic book fans. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Tw

  • WCPE Episode 181 - Justice League Review

    01/12/2017 Duración: 01h16min

Gathered together from the cosmic reaches of the universe, here in this great Hall of Justice, are the most powerful forces of good ever assembled: SUPERMAN! BATMAN AND ROBIN! WONDER WOMAN! AQUAMAN! And The Wonder Twins: ZAN and JAYNA, with their space monkey, GLEEK! (how about FLASH! CYBORG!) Dedicated to truth, justice, and peace for all mankind! We are back in the studios after the Thanksgiving break to talk all things Justice League! We've all seen the movie and we are here to share our opinions. As always, the ultimate judge of anything is you yourself. Go see this movie before forming your own opinion. And yes, we spoil the heck out this movie, so no complaining if we spoil something along the way. But we can't stop there - we also have to discuss the new Avengers Infinity War trailer that came out this week. OMG!!! What a feast for the eyes! May 2018 cannot come quick enough! We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our w

  • WCPE Episode 180 - WCPE Panel from 2017 Kansas City Comic Con!

    24/11/2017 Duración: 50min

Coming to you live... well, nearly live. This is a recording. We were alive and well when we recorded this, and we hope you are alive and well when you are listening to this... Anyway, welcome to the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! panel from the 2017 Kansas City Comic Con. As you may have heard, Cullen was not able to attend in person. But thanks to the wonders that are the Google machines, we were able to have Cullen join us in all of his oversized glory on the projection screens in the panel room. So you still get all three of us for the price of ... nothing! This podcast is still free to each and every one of you, our loyal listeners. On the panel, we play a Password game with the audience, we take questions from that same audience and give away prizes, and we do our best to give away a FREE comic book file cabinet. Big thank you to the KCCC crew for giving us the floor space and the panel opportunities. We had a great time on the show floor and hosting multiple panels throughout the weekend. This panel was

  • WCPE Episode 179 - Interview with Doug Jones and Con Weekend Wrap-Up

    17/11/2017 Duración: 01h14min

So how was your weekend? Because ours was pretty incredible! John got hugs from Doug Jones, Jerry chatted it up with a not-so-silent Silent Bob, and Cullen found a motherlode of Who's Who issues in a Portland dollar box. In this episode, we chat up all things Kansas City Comic Con and Frankenstein's Comic Swap. We go over our panels, including the incredible WCPE panel which can be found in our podcast feed next week. We talk about the friends we saw throughout the weekend, and the new friends we met along the way. John did do some work along the way, getting out the recorder to talk to Doug Jones, one of the stars of Star Trek: Discovery. Despite some technical glitches, the guys made it work for a quick interview with a truly wonderful person. John presents the guys with a Marvel panel quiz, and Jerry receives an early birthday present from the guys. All in all, it's a pretty darn good show, if we do say so ourselves. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or w

  • WCPE Episode 178 - Thor: Ragnarok and Frankensteins Comic Book Swap

    10/11/2017 Duración: 01h10min

It's another busy weekend for the guys at the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! So give this show a listen right away to stay caught up with us for the next three days. First up is the two conventions we will be at. You can find John and Jerry at the Kansas City Comic Con at Bartle Hall. We will be set up at booth 703, as well as hosting a lot of panels throughout the weekend. In particular, join us Sunday at 2 PM CT for the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! panel in the Great Hall. Go back to last week's podcast to get all of the details about KCCC. Meanwhile, Cullen will be flying solo at the Frankenstein's Comic Book Swap in Portland on Saturday. This is an old-school comic swap of the finest kind. Cullen will be there with many of our new friends talking comics and more.  But before the con action starts, let's get some more comic talk in. Some of us saw Thor: Ragnarok over the weekend and really enjoyed it. That got us thinking about our favorite stories and runs involving Thor and the Hulk. We run down our picks
