  • WCPE Episode 180 - WCPE Panel from 2017 Kansas City Comic Con!

    24/11/2017 Duración: 50min

Coming to you live... well, nearly live. This is a recording. We were alive and well when we recorded this, and we hope you are alive and well when you are listening to this... Anyway, welcome to the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! panel from the 2017 Kansas City Comic Con. As you may have heard, Cullen was not able to attend in person. But thanks to the wonders that are the Google machines, we were able to have Cullen join us in all of his oversized glory on the projection screens in the panel room. So you still get all three of us for the price of ... nothing! This podcast is still free to each and every one of you, our loyal listeners. On the panel, we play a Password game with the audience, we take questions from that same audience and give away prizes, and we do our best to give away a FREE comic book file cabinet. Big thank you to the KCCC crew for giving us the floor space and the panel opportunities. We had a great time on the show floor and hosting multiple panels throughout the weekend. This panel was

  • WCPE Episode 179 - Interview with Doug Jones and Con Weekend Wrap-Up

    17/11/2017 Duración: 01h14min

So how was your weekend? Because ours was pretty incredible! John got hugs from Doug Jones, Jerry chatted it up with a not-so-silent Silent Bob, and Cullen found a motherlode of Who's Who issues in a Portland dollar box. In this episode, we chat up all things Kansas City Comic Con and Frankenstein's Comic Swap. We go over our panels, including the incredible WCPE panel which can be found in our podcast feed next week. We talk about the friends we saw throughout the weekend, and the new friends we met along the way. John did do some work along the way, getting out the recorder to talk to Doug Jones, one of the stars of Star Trek: Discovery. Despite some technical glitches, the guys made it work for a quick interview with a truly wonderful person. John presents the guys with a Marvel panel quiz, and Jerry receives an early birthday present from the guys. All in all, it's a pretty darn good show, if we do say so ourselves. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or w

  • WCPE Episode 178 - Thor: Ragnarok and Frankensteins Comic Book Swap

    10/11/2017 Duración: 01h10min

It's another busy weekend for the guys at the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! So give this show a listen right away to stay caught up with us for the next three days. First up is the two conventions we will be at. You can find John and Jerry at the Kansas City Comic Con at Bartle Hall. We will be set up at booth 703, as well as hosting a lot of panels throughout the weekend. In particular, join us Sunday at 2 PM CT for the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! panel in the Great Hall. Go back to last week's podcast to get all of the details about KCCC. Meanwhile, Cullen will be flying solo at the Frankenstein's Comic Book Swap in Portland on Saturday. This is an old-school comic swap of the finest kind. Cullen will be there with many of our new friends talking comics and more.  But before the con action starts, let's get some more comic talk in. Some of us saw Thor: Ragnarok over the weekend and really enjoyed it. That got us thinking about our favorite stories and runs involving Thor and the Hulk. We run down our picks

    27/10/2017 Duración: 01h05min

It's the weekend before Halloween and the guys from the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! have bats on their minds. Specifically Batman! We are talking a bunch of Batman this week, with our favorite writers, artists, and stories from the last 75 years.  We also recap John and Jerry's trip to Freestate Comicon last weekend and look ahead to the upcoming weekend, with our trip downtown to Clint's Comics for the Halloweenfest going on at comic book stores all around the country. We also start to tease our activities with Kansas City Comic Con which is coming up soon. Make plans now to attend the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! panel at 2 PM on Sunday, November 12, in the Great Hall.  We finish things off with some quick talk on some recent reads as well as plugs for some other podcasts that we have been listening to recently. As always, you are obligated to finish listening to our show before downloading the other fine shows that we talk about. Well, maybe not obligated. But it would sure be swell if you didn't bail on

  • WCPE Episode 175 - Let's All Go to the Movies!

    20/10/2017 Duración: 01h06min

Over the last couple of weeks, the guys of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! have been busy reading comics and watching the fall TV shows.  But we haven't talked much about the upcoming movies. So today's episode has the guys looking at the slew of recent trailers for comic-book related films coming out in the next six months. All of these trailers are easily found on your Google machines, so go give them a look if you haven't seen them yet! Thor: Ragnarok Justice League Star Wars: The Last Jedi Black Panther The New Mutants But before we can get to the theaters, we have a con this weekend! Freestate Comicon is this Saturday, October 21, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Lawrence, KS. The show runs from 10 AM to 5 PM, and you will find John and Jerry either at their own table at the show, or looking through a 50 cent box of treasured comics that are hoping to go home with us. We also introduce a new feature on the show this week, where we look ahead to next week and spotlight three books that we think you

  • WCPE Episode 174 - Interview with Dan Brereton

    13/10/2017 Duración: 01h05min

It is so much fun to be able to bring one of our favorite creators onto the show to talk comics or movies or even the Hero Initiative. It's even more fun when we can talk about all three of those things with a favorite creator. Such is the case this week as the guys sit down with Dan Brereton. See, for more than 20 years, Cullen has been a huge fan of Dan's work, going back to his original Nocturnals series. Since then, we have seen his work on Thrillkiller, Legends of the Dark Knight, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and so many more books. Along the way, Dan became a regular contributor the Hero Initiative's 100 Cover projects. Tonight, Dan will be in Portland at a special screening of the 1982 movie John Carpenter's The Thing in 70mm. Following the showing, Dan and other artists will be signing The Thing: Artbook, which features 375 images inspired by the movie. If you can't make the showing, and it is sold out, then you can meet Dan tomorrow at Excalibur Comics in Portland from 12-3 PM. Following our talk with D

  • WCPE Episode 173 - Interview with Morgan Beem

    06/10/2017 Duración: 01h07min

It's another busy week at the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! Let's cut out the jibber-jabber and get right into the podcast, OK? First up is John's interview with artist Morgan Beem, whose work you will see next week with the release of The Family Trade #1 by Image Comics. The guys got to meet Morgan at Rose City Comic Con last month and fell in love with her artwork. John interviewed Morgan before she took off for New York Comic Con, which is going on right now! Look for The Family Trade on shelves next Wednesday.  Next up, John bravely took one for the team and watched Marvel's Inhumans, Gifted, and the first three episodes of Star Trek: Discovery. Listen in to figure out which ones he liked or didn't like, and what he is most likely to keep tuning in for this season.  Then all three guys discuss Marvel Legacy #1, which came out last week. This is a giant-size issue kicking off the next big thing from Marvel Comics. We see the first incarnation of the Avengers, from the dawn of humankind. We get teases to Wak

  • WCPE Episode 172 - Interview with Jai Nitz

    29/09/2017 Duración: 01h54s

It only took 172 episodes, but we finally -- FINALLY -- got comic book writer Jai Nitz on the line with us to talk comics. Specifically his new comic Fu Jitsu from Aftershock Comics. This book has been in the making for 10 years, going through multiple revisions before arriving at your local comic shop this week. In this book, Fu Jitsu is the world’s smartest boy and has been for the last hundred years. Yes, this book is crazy like that. Jai and artist Wesley St. Claire deliver a knockout first issue that impressed all of us in the WCPE studios! But before we can speak to Jai, we get in some comic and TV talk. Shows are returning to the air this week, with premieres already for Gotham, Orville, and Star Trek: Discovery. Which ones are we going to watch, skip, or catch-up on next summer from Netflix? We also recount our visit to the Little Apple Comic Expo last weekend, visiting friends, diving into 50 cent bins, and helping someone track down a book read more than 30 years ago.   We would love to hear your co

  • WCPE Episode 171 - A Comic Book Hodge Podge-cast

    22/09/2017 Duración: 01h04min

For the long-time listeners of this podcast (and God bless you for doing so!), you know that we don't always promote what we will be talking about the next week at the time of our podcast recording. The reason we don't do that is pretty obvious - most times we don't know what we will be talking about in seven days. And sometimes, we don't know what we will be talking about seven minutes before we hit RECORD. This is one of those weeks. So we gathered up some various topics that interest us from the last week. None are worthy of a full episode-long discussion, but string enough of them together and we might have a show. Emphasis on might.... On today's episode: John and Jerry attend The Realm book signing at Elite Comics, which was filled with so many of our friends. Meanwhile, Cullen made a visit to our new friends at Comic Cave PDX to drop off a Dave Gibbons-signed edition of Watchmen.  Batman Day is coming up tomorrow at finer comic book stores nationwide. But rumor has it that Harley Quinn may be taking o

  • WCPE Episode 170 - Interview with Dave Gibbons at Rose City Comic Con

    15/09/2017 Duración: 54min

The 2017 Rose City Comic Con is in the books, and the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! is proud to have been right in the middle of it all. Over the weekend, we spent three incredible days working the Hero Initiative booth, managing donation buckets in artist alley, and meeting some of the coolest comic fans in America. Oh yeah, and we also spent some time with creator Dave Gibbons. Yes, that DAVE GIBBONS! We took some time out on Sunday afternoon to sit down with Dave and chat for a few minutes about Watchmen, Superman Annual #11 and his work on the big screen. This comes hours after we hosted his panel at Rose City Comic Con. Don't believe us? Check out our Facebook feed from last Sunday morning! We spend the rest of the episode catching up on Rose City - the people we met, friends we saw, and goodies we purchased. A special thank you goes out to Silk Spectre/Black Cat, who brought us the Brazilian Brownies on Sunday. We would be remiss if we did not mention the passing of writer Len Wein, as the news broke lat

  • WCPE Episode 169 - Who Reads The Watchmen

    08/09/2017 Duración: 01h11min

It's the nerd's version of Christmas Eve for the guys from the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! At the time of recording this show, we were just a day away from reuniting for the Rose City Comic Con in Portland, OR. By the time you listen to this, we will be watching the sun come up in the west. Of course, with a big weekend planned, it's hard to focus on any single topic this week, so we jump all over the place with our conversation. You will hear us talk about: Recent reads from floppy issues and collected editions. Our panel with guest Dave Gibbons. Our first encounters with Watchmen. A look at notable comic book releases from 1986. Batman: The Animated Series turns 25 years old this week. Nothing is slowing down the Wonder Woman movie! We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or by email. We want to hear from you! As always, we are the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! and we hope you enjo

  • WCPE Episode 168 - Interview with Jeremy Haun

    01/09/2017 Duración: 55min

We are super-excited to have comic creator Jeremy Haun on the show with us this week. Jeremy (along with Seth Peck, Nick Filardi, and Thomas Mauer) is launching a new book for Image Comics later this month. The Realm #1 hits shelves on September 13, but we get Jeremy to reveal all of the secrets from the first issue.... Well, maybe just some of the secrets..... Truth be told, he didn't tell us a lot about it so we will have to buy this book from him Jeremy will be going on a book tour this month to promote The Realm, including stops at Rose City Comic Con in Portland and Elite Comics in Overland Park. Make plans to get one of the secret cover editions from Jeremy at these shows. Speaking of shows, we are one week away from Rose City Comic Con. You can find the WCPE guys volunteering at the Hero Initiative table (#718). Not only will you find us there, you will also find legendary artist Dave Gibbons signing and sketching at the table all weekend. His list of credits is staggering, with Watchmen, Superman Annu

  • WCPE Episode 167 - Ask Me About My Pants

    25/08/2017 Duración: 01h05min

Another week, another podcast because the guys from the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! love you. Ohhh Yeahhh! The week started out with the various publishers releasing their solicits for November 2017. We scanned the listings and picked out some of the books that intrigued us. As always, if there is an upcoming book that you really want to get, make sure you let your local comic shop know that so they can order one for you.  Jerry and John both got the chance to watch the new Defenders series on Netflix over the weekend. We discuss the highlights and the lowlights (i.e., Iron Fist) of the new eight-episode series.  We wrap things up with some listener feedback and some quick recaps of what we have been reading lately. We also are getting ready for the Rose City Comic Con starting two weeks from today in Portland, OR.  We would love to hear your comments on the show. Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends. We're so glad you could attend. Come inside, come inside... We are back in the recording studios with a big stack of brand new comics to talk about. On top of the pile is the new Mister Miracle book from DC Comics. Creators Tom King and Mitch Gerads (The Sheriff of Babylon) are back giving their spin on a classic Kirby creation. This book is beautiful and amazing and disturbing, sometimes all on the same page. Do yourself a favor and buy this book! We also take a look at the 100 Kirbys project occurring next weekend in Omaha, NE. • WCPE Episode 165 - Bruce McCorkindale Interview and AvX Summer Finale

    11/08/2017 Duración: 01h24min

Another busy week for the guys of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!, and the schools haven't even started yet! Get comfortable as this is going to be a fun, but busy show. We start out with an interview with writer/artist Bruce McCorkindale, whose brand new version of The Falling Man is now available on Comixology. This is a project that has bounced around over the last two decades, but now it is fully finished in color and available in the digital format. We discuss the history of The Falling Man, working with Phil Hester, and Bruce's cover re-creations. Next, the guys FINALLY wrap up their summer reading program with the final installment of AvX. It took us 77 issues over eight weeks time but we have reached the end. At this point, it's not a matter of who won or who lost, it's that we finished the story.  We sprinkle in some discussion of Mark Millar's deal with Netflix and what titles we would like to see developed into TV shows, as well as discuss the new costume identity for Batman's new partner Duke.  W

  • WCPE Episode 164 - #MakeMineMilkshake

    04/08/2017 Duración: 01h42min

While Cullen was slowly melting away in Hot Portland, John and Jerry were chilling with milkshakes in Comfortable Kansas City at our weekly recording of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! We lead off the show talking about the #MakeMineMilkshakes story from over the weekend. People, apparently some of you need a reminder. You must use Twitter and Facebook and other social media for good things. Don't be a troll. Don't harass people. (Unless it is Nicholas Cage, in which we would like to remind him that the open invite to our podcast is still good.) Next up is a look at two recent reads from John's pile of new books. We start with CalExit from Black Mask Studios, which imagines a world where the major cities in California split from the state following an unpopular election. So ask yourself, is this real or fiction? Next is Dark Days: The Casting from DC Comics, which brings us one step closer to the Metal event this fall.  Finally, we reach the penultimate point of our AvX summer reading. Characters die, relat
