  • Are You a Rebel?

    30/08/2020 Duración: 31min

In his last sermon to the people of Israel Haggai reminds his listeners that though they live under a foreign authority God is the one in control. Rory shows us that God's unlike all the others, God's kingdom has been established forever. If you are a Christian then you should be a rebel. But if you’re thinking, ’I’m definitely a Christian, but I’m not a rebel’, listen to these words of Alice Cooper: ‘Drinking beer is easy. Trashing your hotel room is easy. But being a Christian, that’s a tough call. That’s real rebellion.’ The book of Haggai is a book that is all about learning to live rebelliously for the Lord. It tells the story of 2 houses: The Temple of the Lord, and the House of David. The temple is the place where we can meet God. The house of David represents the King of Kings and his kingdom. At the time in which the book was written, the remnant of Israel in Judah, were surrounded by foreign powers, who wer...

  • Wash Your Hands

    23/08/2020 Duración: 32min

In our latest in the series on Haggai, Ben takes us through Haggai 2: 10-19. In this passage the prophet Haggai, through a parable, discusses how the Lord will deal with the people's defilement. I wonder whether you are familiar with the situation where you have spent a whole day not realising something embarrassing about your appearance, such as a piece of salad stuck in your teeth, or a piece of hair sticking up at the back of your head. Only those closest to you would point it out, as an act of kindness. In the book of Haggai, God demonstrates such kindness to the Israelites who are blindly unaware of the mistakes they are making, but seriously need to be made aware of them. As we have learned from recent sermons the Israelites have returned from exile in Babylon to Jerusalem which is in ruins. As God’s people, privileged with his presence, their first priority should have been to rebuild the temple, but they were distra...

  • This is the time to build the church

    09/08/2020 Duración: 37min

Pete introduces our new series in Haggai, beginning at Haggai 1:1-15. After years of living in a state of lockdown, God calls his people to rebuild His house, the temple. But we find that they have become discouraged, distracted and comfortable. Through Haggai, God calls them to stop saying it's not the right time, to give careful thought to their ways, and to start working for His glory again. Pete applies this to our present day; as we come out of coronavirus lockdown Christians should be encouraged to continue the work of building God's glorious church. Do you ever feel discouraged in the Christian life? As you think about your efforts to reach the lost, or whether your faith is growing, or how much you love the church, do you feel a lack of confidence and enthusiasm? 2,500 years ago, God’s people were facing such discouragement. About 50,000 of them had returned from exile with Zerubbabel, and they had a big job...
