Tune in to Gullah/Geechee Riddim Radio as hostess, Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation discusses her anniversary of going to the United Nations for the 1st time.  On April 1, 1999, Queen Quet became the first Gullah/Geechee to speak on behalf of the Gullah/Geechee Nation before the United Nations Human Rights Commission in Genevé, Switzerland.  Since that time, Queen Quet has continued to advocate for the continuation of Gullah/Geechee culture and is a global human rights defender.  She is also an environmental justice and equity advocate and activist.   Queen Quet spent her anniversary as part of a Tunis Campbell Day Celebration which is one of many events that are part of #GullahGeechee2020 in celebration of the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition's 20th anniversary.  Queen Quet was the visionary that founded the organization before anyone else in the world had any groups established with the two names together.  The Coalition under her leadership has spawned a number of other organizations

As "Gullah/Geechee Riddim Radio" continues its annual celebration of "Women's Herstory Month," tune in as Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) discusses the legacy of Harriet Tubman in the Gullah/Geechee Nation.  Queen Quet is also WGN's "Underground" Gullah/Geechee consultant.  This season, "Underground" is focused on bringing the lead character further in her journey to freedom with the assistance of Harriet Tubman who is played by Aisha Hines.   Queen Quet has been presented with several awards bearing Harriet Tubman's name due to fact that many feel she embodies her spirit.  She has had the opportunity to represent Mother Moses in parades and educational institutions over the years.   Queen Quet also worked on the Harriet Tubman Study which led to US federal recognition of the work of Harriet Tubman.  Tune in to learn about the part of her journey that took her southward into the lands of the Gullah/Geechee Nation to which "Underground" has now also RUN! Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) focuses on the women freedom fighters of the Underground in honor of Women's Herstory Month.  Queen Quet is the Gullah/Geechee Consultant for Season 2 of WGN's "Underground."  She also was part of the national team that brought about the existence of the "Underground Railroad Network to Freedom."  She has traveled with her production, "The Underground Railroad: A Geechee Girl's Escape."  In this episode of Gullah/Geechee Riddim Radio in honor of Women's Herstory Month, she will focus on the women of Underground past and present as she honors the legacy of the warrioress freedom fighters.
