On Sunday, Pastor Jake started our new series – “God Help Me”. Have you ever said “God help me”? Have you ever just felt desperate for things to change? You’re not alone. Everyone – Christ-follower or not; church person or not; religious or not – has times in their lives when they are desperate for change. And here’s what we want you to hear: when you cry out in desperation -- God help me! – God shows up. We don’t know what you’re going through, but we know this: God is near. He’s not an idea, a philosophy, a religion, or hobby. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all that is. He is big, mighty, and powerful. AND He is right here. He loves you. He cares for you. He hears you. He will help you. He’s the God of miracles.

In our fifth and final week of the Family Matters series, Pastor Jake explored the importance of operating from a forgiving heart. We have discussed how families are built for success when we place our faith in God at the center of family, when we seek to honor one another at all times, when we commit ourselves spiritually to God and our loved ones, and when we willfully guard how we prioritize our time for family and God. In spite of our greatest efforts, we all fall short in each of these areas. This means we must learn to extend grace to one another by offering forgiveness no matter what. Very few people inside or outside the church are doubting this is a big deal, but this doesn’t change the reality that this truth is hard to act out. In our fourth week of the Family Matters series, Pastor Jake talked about TIME. This is the family matter that often gets in the way of all the others in our families. When you look around at the pace of our lives and the ink covering our calendars, it’s not difficult to see that we are a culture addicted to activity. Many of us are simply running our families ragged. We’re exhausted each night, wishing for more sleep as our finish line for today becomes our starting line for tomorrow with no rest between. We don’t even have time to stop and consider how busy we are. And if we ever do get time for that, we’re quick to call it a “season”, make excuses, and jump back into the same busyness that was crushing us a moment before. The truth is that busyness follows us from season to season. This is why people of every age and season of life complain about it.
