Ben Holdstock - Heaps Normal
14/12/2021 Duración: 54minThis week on Beer is a Conversation, we meet Ben Holdstock, Co-founder and Head of Product with Heaps Normal. Regular listeners will know that we have a fascination with the alcohol-free beer category, trying to understand what it is, what its potential is and what it means for the broader beer world. 2021 has been a year that has seen unprecedented media coverage of the alcohol-free sector, and Heaps Normal has been at the forefront of that attention. The brand has certainly won plenty of accolades for the quality of its beer, but as we know the liquid - as the marketers call it - is only one part of the equation. Heaps Normal has also certainly capitalised on the media’s interest, and the retailer rush to embrace the category. With Heaps Normal successfully completing a Series A funding round and raising $8.5 million, on a valuation of more than $50 million, I wanted to catch up with Ben to find out a little more about where he saw the AF market going and whether the growth - and the hype - can continue,

Annelies Nijskens and Jimmy Van Eetvelde from Madocke Brewing
07/12/2021 Duración: 01h04minToday we chat with Annelies Nijskens and Jimmy Van Eetvelde from Madocke Brewing. A Belgian couple, Annelies came to Australia for a school, exchange at 17 and always wanted to return. The couple had an engineering firm in Belgium but Jimmy found something a little disheartening about making something well and with pride, only to have it hidden in a cupboard of behind a false wall. He decided he wanted to make beer instead. Annelies persuaded a reluctant Jimmy to up their life and move to Australia, with Jimmy only agreeing if he could make beer...the result is a Belgian brewery on Queensland’s Gold Coast. It’s been a long year 2021, and there has been a lot happening in this post-craft world of ours. And in a lot of ways, this was the conversation I needed right now. Our partners Radio Brews News is proudly presented by Cryer Malt, who we are thrilled to announce are back supporting us for another year of conversations. Dr Tim Cooper - Coopers
23/11/2021 Duración: 54minThis week we catch with one of our favourite interviewees, Dr Tim Cooper. Quite apart from being the Managing Director of the 159-year-old Coopers Brewery, Tim is one of those rare interviews that actually engages with the premise of a question and tries to actually provide an answer. Believe us when we say that is quite a novelty in news interviewing. For the listener, it means you will get much more out of a conversation with Tim Cooper, than you might expect. In this episode we discuss Coopers 2021 results and hear whether Tim thinks Coopers was too slow in moving to cans, how Coopers can manage to stay relevant to new generations of beer drinkers, and also would Coopers ever consider buying a craft brewer. Spoiler alert, the answer is "yes, but..." As you’ll hear, this conversation went over time and even then there were at least half a dozen threads to the conversation that I would have loved to pursue, but just couldn’t for time. Even so, there is plenty that we do discuss. Our partners Radio Brews
