  • Episode 197 - Explore the Big Four (Megadeth - Cryptic Writings)

    12/10/2020 Duración: 01h29min

On our Explore the Big Four series we sit down and listen to an album from one of the Big Four and discuss it's place in the band's discography as well as it's place in the legacy of metal albums. Due to popular demand, this week we listen to 1997's Cryptic Writings by Megadeth.Cryptic Writings is the 7th studio album by Megadeth and continues their trend from the previous two albums (Countdown To Extinction and Youthanasia) of simpler songs and more accessible lyrics and production. Made in our hometown of Nashville, TN the album was produced by country legend Dan Huff and was the last album to feature the classic lineup of Nick Menza, Marty Friendman and Dave Ellifson.  We burn down the album with running commentary. Did we love or hate it? You'll have to listen to find out. The documentary captures all of this in brutal honesty as the band struggles to regain their footing as one of the most powerful bands in rock and roll history.
