    26/11/2019 Duración: 49min

Welcome back to the Horror 101 show. Something a little different this podcast. Its not exactly a hidden gem but we don’t see this film being talked about in the community too often. If we were to tell you there was an anthology horror film from the 90s, hosted by John Carpenter as this ghoul in a morgue, cracking eye rolling jokes and ushering you into tales which feature Tobe Hooper, Wes Craven, David Naughton, Sam Raimi, Stacy Keach, Mark Hamill, Blondie, Sheena Easton, and David Warner. And thats maybe HALF of the faces you’d recognise in the film. Would you believe me? Cause that shit exists, Ladies and Gentlemen. • Horror 101 - Episode 92: Candyman (1992)

    29/10/2019 Duración: 44min

Welcome back to the Horror 101 podcast. In 1992 Bernard Rose directed a film which was based on a Clive Barker Story about the potency of urban legends and how far down the rabbit hole one graduate student will go to find out the truth about the infamous Candyman. They say if you call his name 5 times into the mirror he will come and butcher you with his hook for a hand. A true retelling of the Bloody Mary game. It featured good gore, excellent performances from Tony Todd and Virginia Madsen and a haunting score by Phillip Glass. Since Jordan Peele is helping to write the next chapter in this story (coming next year) we decided to give the Horror 101 treatment to Candyman this Halloween. • Horror 101 - Episode 90: Night of the Living Dead 1990

    29/08/2019 Duración: 48min

Welcome back to the Horror 101 Podcast. For this 90th milestone show we're spotlighting one of those rare horror remakes that does it's job well. In 1968 George Romero directed a new kind of horror movie which gave birth to an original new monster, the modern day zombie. After a last minute name change and an error in the title of the film the copyright was essentially lost and this film has ever since been open as public domain. 22 years later special effects wizard Tom Savini was given the opportunity to direct the remake of Romero's classic. We'll speak with Tony Todd and get some of his stories on the production of that film. How did he get the part of Ben? Which actor did he have issues with during the shoot? All that and more coming at you from Horror 101!Show highlights:01:00 Prelude to Terror...05:30 Remaking a classic/Public Domain...11:00 "They're coming to get you, Barbara!"15:45 The Evolution of Barbara...18:20 Tony Todd: Reading for Savini...22:20 Tony Todd: The on set Feud...23:25

  • Horror 101 - Episode 89: Leviathan (1989)

    30/07/2019 Duración: 41min

Welcome back to the Horror 101 Podcast. For our 89th show we've focused on a big budget bomb from 1989. How can a monster film set 2 miles underwater starring Peter Weller and Richard Crenna with Jerry Goldsmith music and effects from Stan Winston fail? You're about to find out. A derivative script and bad timing probably had a huge part of it. We'll discuss the pros and cons of this creature feature called Leviathan and I'll give a small tribute to Rutger Hauer who sadly passed away a few days AFTER we recorded this show. Show Highlights:01:00 Prelude to Terror...03:15 Welcome and RIP Rutger Hauer...06:00 Leviathan or Intruder?...12:00 Mining 16,000 ft down...15:00 A Sunken Ship...18:20 Genetic Mutation...21:15 Memories of The Thing...23:40 Poor Dejesus...27:00 Richard Crenna...29:00 Implosion Pending...30:30 Ridiculous Endings...33:20 Scoring the film...39:00 Conclusion...Thanks for Listening

  • Horror 101 - Episode 87: Near Dark (1987)

    30/05/2019 Duración: 46min

Welcome back to the Horror 101 podcast. On this show we're returning to the vampire train. We could have covered Lost Boys but we decided to go the not-so-fluffy route and focused on a more sinister tale of the undead. Three key actors from Aliens (1986) went from outer space to the deep west and helped provide a very unique look at night time predators. Plagued with a failing production company and being released a month within the much more popular Lost Boys, this film was released with very little fanfare and was basically cast by the wayside. In the last few decades it has gained quite the cult following and has become the favourite vampire film of many fans. With memorable performances by Lance Henriksen and the late, great Bill Paxton we offer you the Horror 101 treatment of Kathryn Bigelow's Near Dark. Join us!Show Highlights:01:00 Prelude to Terror...04:00 Choosing the film for episode 87...11:20 Jenny Wright (where did you go?)...15:50 Kidnapped in Broad Daylight...21:03 The Bar Massacre.
