  • Ep. 180- Up and Down, Like a JWP Free Kick with Chris Hutchings and Jay Grant

    30/06/2020 Duración: 01h13min

Show Timeline: Intro Music- 0:00 Intro- 0:53 Chris Hutchings- 3:56 Behind the Closed Doors- 8:07 Arsenal- 14:53 Break- 36:08 Jay Grant- 37:27 End Credits- 1:10:54 The football season is most definitely back. The rollercoaster ride that is following Saints is here, and we experienced it all this week. Our emotions followed the team up and down as Saints lost to Arsenal in disappointing fashion, keeping the home form intact, and then went on the road to HAND Watford a defeat and take all three points back to St. Mary’s. Saints now sit on 40 points. Closer to 7th than 17th (though other teams have games to come later this week), and we can be relatively confident in how the team responded to the performance against Arsenal. This week I am joined by two guests, Chris Hutchings spoke with me on Friday morning to relive Arsenal and talk about the experience of being in the ground when then doors are closed and seeing Premier League football without a crowd. We also discuss the ma

  • Ep. 179- Slow (re)Start, Strong Finish, with Bene Holley of The Saints FC Blog

    23/06/2020 Duración: 01h02min

A three-month layoff might have been just what Danny Ings and company needed as Saints began Project Restart with an emphatic 0-3 win at Carrow Road. Southampton began slowly but grew into the game, and from the first hydration break on it was all Saints.  Joining me this week to recap the match, the team selection, the performances, and address your questions is Bene Holley, a Saints fan from Italy who also blogs about the club and helps run the Saints World Twitter account. Bene has a connection to Southampton and I really enjoyed getting to hear his thoughts on the match, getting to know him a bit, and learning more about his blog and writing. You can give him a follow using the links below and be sure to check out his blog as well!   Follow Bene and his work: Twitter- Personal-@ItalianSaint- https://twitter.com/ItalianSaint Twitter- Blog- @thesaintsfcblog- https://twitter.com/thesaintsfcblog Partner Page- @saints1885_com- https://twitter.com/saints1885_com Blog- https://thesaintsfcblog.wixsite.com/

Only a few more days until Saints return to action, albeit in an empty stadium and in different circumstances than normal. To help get us ready for the return of football I’m joined by The Athletic’s Carl Anka. For those of you who don’t know Carl covers Saints for the Athletic, as well as appearing on various podcasts from The Totally Football Show to TIFO and also Talk of the Devils. He has also been kind enough to share his time with us here. It’s always a pleasure to speak with Carl and I hope you enjoy the show! • Ep. 176- Presenting Matchday, with Steve Forbes

    02/06/2020 Duración: 01h04min

Show Timeline: Intro Music- 0:00 Intro- 0:54 Stever Forbes - 4:22 Working at Global- 24:46 Working at Saints- 26:37 Listener Questions- 53:55 Cooking with Tom and Steve- 56:54 End Credits- 1:01:42 So, since we recorded this week’s show a lot has happened. Ralph’s due to sign a new contract extension and project restart is inching ever closer to bringing football back to us. In larger news, We saw demonstrations by players in the Bundesliga, and protests have gone on for days around the US, with things turning violent in several instances.  Steve Forbes, matchday presenter at Southampton FC, joins me this week. We discuss, among other things, his journey to the job, what it looks like, how he went from selling mobile phones and working in call centers to quarreling with Sammy and taking charge of the halftime relay, while still making time to cook, present the news, and entertain us all while he’s doing it. You can find Steve on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook @forbesyprese

  • Ep. 175.5- Finnish but not Finished, Antti Niemi Revisited

    26/05/2020 Duración: 56min

Show Timeline: Pre-ramble- 0:00 Intro Music- 2:45 Original Intro- 3:41 Antti Niemi- 9:50 End Credits- 54:15 *This week’s notes: Jay, who runs the Southampton Page on Twitter, and who is the official partner of the show, was due to be on this week. We had the recording time set pretty late and then he got ill. I’ve been meaning to find a way to get this episode back out, and now seems like the perfect time, especially since Jay was the one who set it up in the first place. ----more---- It’s not very often that most of us get to speak to former professionals. Some are public figures in broadcasting or coaching, some move on to other careers, and some slip away from the crowds and make a life for themselves with their families. Those that are public often seem, at least to me, unreachable. You can see them, you may even say hello, but to actually sit down and have a chat is not something most of us will get the chance to do. John, of the Saints FC Podcast, has managed to track down sever

  • Ep. 175- An OPTA-Mistic View, with Chris Hutchings

    19/05/2020 Duración: 01h16min

Show Timeline: Intro Music- 0:20 Intro- 0:1:15 Chris Hutchings- 4:06 Football Climate- 17:43 Working in Football- 29:54 FA Cup/TalkSport- 34:35 Tour Guide- 44:21 OPTA- 46:43 Parental Advisory- 53:43 Hojbjerg and Team News- 1:00:51 End Credits- 1:13:46 Chris Hutchings joins me this week to chat about Saints. We look back on how he became a fan, how he began commentating, escorting fans from around the world around St. Mary’s, and working for OPTA. We also discuss the likelihood of Hojbjerg leaving, what that means for the team, Project Restart, football without fans, and more. More than anything, it was just a fantastic opportunity to spend some time learning about Chris and his connection with the club. I’m finding more and more during this COVID19 break that the people who support and work around the club, and their stories, are, at least to me, more interesting, rewarding, and engaging than complaining about a misplaced pass or Cedric’s lack of back-post defendi

  • Ep. 174- From the Dell to the Dellivery, Our Time to Chine, with Graham Copp

    12/05/2020 Duración: 01h04min

Show Timeline: Intro Music- 0:00 Intro- 0:54 Graham Copp- 3:09 The Isle of Wight- 8:29 League Cup Finals- 15:19 Football and America- 18:58 Listener Questions- 44:22 The JPT Final Journey- 54:24 End Credits- 1:01:56 For the last few weeks, it’s been a mixture of confusion and uncertainty, and even with the PL’s announcement of potentially resuming on June 1st, it’s still largely that way. Until we know more, we’ll just stay alert. This week we’re avoiding most of that and diving into trips to the Dell, Ferry rides, keeping up with Saints from abroad before the internet was a thing, cup finals won and lost, and more with Graham Copp. Graham is a lifelong Saints fan from the Isle of Wight and who now lives near Washington DC. He’s written for the Ugly Inside and seen Saints up and down England and in the US. It was a real pleasure to be able to chat with him about his memories of the team, and just reflect and reminisce on some of the moments he’s enjoyed (and some of those he didn’t) for a while.

  • Ep. 173- Football Finances, with Tom Murray of Alan March Sport and The Under the Lights Podcast

I saddled Tom with the unattractive prospect of discussing league and club finances along with Post-Brexit work permits and more, all with an eye on how Saints will be impacted going forward. Tom also walks us through the moments that stood out to him during the season and we do answer some listener questions as well, from midfielders to Italian Stallions. Mark Channon lost his life to the disease just days ago. Our thoughts go out to his partner, child and the rest of his family and loved ones. Additionally, his family has asked that any donations you wish to make go to the NHS.   Tom Mason spent a lot of this year covering Bristol Rovers while at University. With in-person sessions at school being called off, and football not taking place, he was able to come on the show this week and chat about everything from League 1 finances to the 4-0 pasting Saints lead on the team down the road. We also discuss the future of some of the squad and answer several listener questions. You can follow Tom on Twitter (@tom_mason18) and Instagram @tmaso19. CONTACT the SHOW and SUBSCRIBE

As always it was great to catch up with Zach and chat Saints even though we didn’t get the chance to do it in person a few weeks ago at the Saints FC event in Chicago.  CONTACT the SHOW and SUBSCRIBE-  Twitter (@SFCDell_ivery)- https://twitter.com/SFCDell_ivery Instagram (@sfcdell_ivery)- https://www.instagram.com/sfcdell_ivery/ Facebook (facebook.c

  • Ep. 170- Oh When the Saints, Do the Right Thing, with Patrick Surlis

    14/04/2020 Duración: 01h02min

I’ve joked in the past, both to the Saints FC podcast guys and Total Saints Podcast crew, and perhaps publically, that when we started our respective shows Saints’ form took a turn for the worse. The second half of Puel’s season, followed by Pellegrino and Hughes. For a time, it seemed like the more podcasts we had the worse the team did. With Saints seeming to turn it around somewhat recently, Patrick Surlis and his brother Jack went about setting up their show (Oh When The Saints and on Twitter @OWTSaintspod). There wasn’t a downturn in form when they did, though. Instead, the world almost stopped turning, a Global Pandemic froze life as we know it and football basically became something we wish we could see again. Still, Patrick and Jack continued with their passion, and now the first three episodes are out for all of us to enjoy with our added downtime. So far Patrick and Jack have hosted 3 former members of the SaintsFC team and will be bringing in a range of guests from all around football to round out

  • Ep. 169- Lockdown Defending and Blatant Hand Balls, with Rob Maddox

    07/04/2020 Duración: 51min

Show Timeline: Intro Music-00:00 Intro- 00:55 Rob Maddox- 2:40 End Credits- 48:40 This week I’m joined by Rob Maddox (@robmaddox_ on Instagram), who was supposed to be on the show a couple of weeks back, but I had to cancel on him because of some family stuff. When I did that, we weren’t anywhere near the indefinite postponing of the Premier League season, and so now, instead of talking about a match we might have won, Rob joins to me to discuss handballs, finances, furloughs, 1-v-1 defending and attacking, and more. Also, Kyle Walker is an idiot. As always, let us know what you think and be sure to get in touch! • Ep. 168- The Southampton Women's Season that Was(n't), with Club Media Officer Hayley Newman

    31/03/2020 Duración: 01h09min

The Southampton Women’s FC season might be over, and the records for the season may be expunged, but it doesn’t mean we have to throw out everything that happened this season. To help us relive some of the moments we don’t want to forget, Club Media Officer Hayley Newman stops by (virtually) to discuss her role at the club, plans for moving forward, some memorable moments on and off the pitch and she even answers some of your questions. As always, get in touch with the club using the links below. The club and players rely on sponsorships to keep them on the field and their season would be impossible without them. Show Timeline: Intro Music-00:00 Intro- 00:55 Jon Weeks- 3:58 Listener Questions- 41:53 End Credits- 54:50 This week I’m joined by a voice familiar to many of the nearly 30,000 Saints fans that show up each and every home matchday to support the team. Jon Weeks (Twitter @jonweeks5 and Instagram @jonweeks) is the voice of Saints in the ground. As the PA announcer, he gets to be involved in the match while also still getting to support the team during the matches. It’s a different perspective than many of us have, and with the addition of his job on the radio and doing voiceover work, his voice helps give life to so many stories, and so many moments of the football season that we won’t forget… but not that Leicester City match. He wasn’t there for that one.  Get in touch with Jon using the links below.  Twitter- https://twitter.com/Jonweeks5 Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/jonweeks/ Voice Over- https://www.mandy.com/voice-artist/profile/jon-weeks You can also hear him o

  • Ep. 166- Nobody at Norwich, No Chance to Socially Distance Ourselves from the Pack, with Dave Champ

    17/03/2020 Duración: 57min

*With everything that's going on, I completely forgot this would be released on St. Patrick's Day... so, happy St. Patrick's Day.  Show Timeline: Intro Music-00:00 Intro- 00:55 Dave Champ- 5:21 End Credits- 54:50 Things change quickly. Sometimes too quickly. We’ve gone from having matches as normal to having matches with no fans, to not having matches at all. We’re self-quarantining and social distancing, and it’s really left me with a weird feeling. I’m sitting in a classroom with no students. It doesn’t really work. We do have an episode for you this week, though. I’m joined by Dave Champ (@awayfromhomesaint on Instagram) to discuss the response to the spread of the Coronavirus through our communities and the Premier League, and it impacts on us as fans and the clubs up and down the football pyramid. It’s a little topical, sure, but we do also discuss the refunds given by the club, the financial situation the club is in, the potential sale of the club and we try to find a silver lining i

  • Ep. 165- Presenting: Life of a Saint, with Michael Kurn

    10/03/2020 Duración: 01h10min

Show Timeline: Pre-Roll SFC USA Event- April 4, 2020, Chicago- 00:00 (link) Intro Music-01:09 Intro- 02:04 Michael Kurn, Life of a Saint- 4:54 Questions- 53:04 End Credits- 1:07:47 Some will say Saints dug in and played 10 v 13 on Saturday, and whether you think Graham Scott supports P*rtsmouth or not, or if you think the guys at Stockley Park are out to take back any love we had for VAR, the truth is, we have 9 more matches to get the points we need to be safe. It won’t be easy, but I’m not sure we would want it to be that way. To discuss the loss to Newcastle and his new book Life of a Saint on this week’s episode is Micheal Kurn (also on episode 116). You may have seen him on matchday in the Southampton FC Fanzone or on Indonesian TV presenting Premier League matches from all over England or heard him on TalkSport, read his previous book Desire Dream Vision or just run into him around town. Even if you’ve never heard from him before, now is your chance. The new book is set for pr

  • Ep. 164- Across the Pond, to the Bridge and Beyond, with Curt Supple

    03/03/2020 Duración: 01h31min

Show Timeline: Intro Music-00:00 Intro- 00:55 Curt Supple- 6:48 End Credits- 1:28:27  Things don’t always work out the way we’d like. Saints’ most recent visit to West Ham (and seemingly every time we’ve played them recently) is a case in point. But, sometimes things do go the right way. And when that happens, it’s cause for celebration. Curt Supple had things mostly work out for him on his visit to see Saints over the Christmas period. He managed to get tickets away at Chelsea and at home vs. Crystal Palace, he saw us win at a top 4 side, and manage a point at home (we don’t get all that many, honestly). Once the vacation was over and he was back in the US, we chatted through his trip. That’s this week’s episode. I hope you enjoy it, and if you are a fan of the team and live abroad, feel free to take some advice from hoe Curt did it…. after all, I’ve only seen us lose at West Ham. A special thanks for Curt for coming on the show and sharing his time. I enjoyed chatting everything from bas

  • Ep. 163- Shane Long's Smallbone Finish, with Christian Candler

    25/02/2020 Duración: 01h12min

Show Timeline: Intro Music-00:00 Intro- 00:55 Christian Candler- 3:35 Lineup- 18:18 Villa Match Recap- 25:38 Listener Question- 54:25 End Credits- 1:09:44  Christian Candler (@candlerneuro on Twitter and @c.ndler on Instagram and his website candler.us) joins me yet again to chat about Saints’ win over Villa last weekend. Saints were dominant for most of the afternoon as Villa very much looked like a side focused on next week’s EFL Cup Final and not their current relegation battles. It’s always a pleasure to chat with Christian, who's become a great friend over the last several years, and who has achieved so much in the world of both writing and sports coverage and now neuroscience. The conversation is especially sweet when there’s a win to discuss and Shane Long scores with his Smallbone. I hope you enjoy the show, sorry about the sickness in my voice… I tried.  CONTACT the SHOW and SUBSCRIBE- Twitter (@SFCDell_ivery)- https://twitter.com/SFCDell_ivery Instagram (@sfcdell_ivery)- https://www.inst

  • Ep. 162- Blunt Force Burnley, with Dan Jarvis

    18/02/2020 Duración: 59min

Burnley came to St. Mary’s and brought with them the weather and a bit of misery as Saints’ fans fought the wind and rain to watch what amounted to a very forgettable match. Other than Danny Ings scoring again (to make it 18 in all comps this year and 15 in the PL), nothing good happened. Redmond was injured in training, Boufal went off early, we let in a goal directly from a corner and had all kinds of possession but no real chances. Burnley had a higher Xg than we did, and even Carl Anka will tell you that’s not supposed to happen.  Anyway, Dan was kind enough to join me to fill me in on all that he and his father have been up to recently. From doing the 92 to being interviewed by the Guardian and raising money for a couple of local charities along the way. It’s a pleasure and an honor to have Dan back on the show, and, as I state in the show, that episode- Ep. 75- with Steve and Dan, is one of my all-time favorite episodes. If you’d like to follow their journey, you can. Links are below to their Twitter
