Dave continues his series on The Real Jesus with part two of “In the wilderness”, looking at Mark 1:9-15 – Jesus’ temptation by Satan. He also illustrates how the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – is all three at the same time, not one on one day and one on another. It is as if the three are in a constantly moving dance. Dave also talks about how Jesus suffered all that we suffered PLUS death on the cross, and went through it all to provide salvation for us. Tim Hughes shares his story of how God brought him and his family to Liverpool in 2020, and talks about how all of us are called to make disciples. Tim urges us to reach the people where we are, and reminds us that we are the people God chose to do it. Dave continues our series on Jesus by looking at the first 15 verses of Mark’s gospel. Mark’s gospel is very immediate, with a lot of extra detail, focusing on what Jesus did. It also identifies his authority over people and over the natural world.  Dave also talks about how Jesus wants us to trust in Him all the time – not just on special occasions and when we need Him. In Running The Race Marked Out for Us, guest speaker Andy Arscott talks about how how we all have a purpose in life, even if we might not always be sure what it is.  Paul compared our life to a race. God gives that race a purpose – He knows what we’re going to encounter. He wants us to be the best us we can be and will change us, no matter how long it takes. On the first Sunday of advent, Dave looks at Ephesians 3: 14-21 and asks us: “What are your expectations for Christmas?” Are we thinking about presents? Church meetings? Our children’s reactions? Denise on how Jesus is the light of the world. Light is at the beginning of the Bible, in Genesis, and at the very end, in Revelation. Denise makes four points: 1. Jesus is our light, as well as being the light of the world2. God called us out of darkness and into the light3. Light casts out darkness4. We are a light to the world. Vernon on Ephesians 2: 11-22. As Christians and as a church, our focus is to know our redeemer – Christ. It is because of Christ that we can say to other people of different races that they are our brothers and sisters in Christ. Guest speaker Keith Cooper, of Freedom Church Chester, on Isaiah 12:1-6. Keith looks into how, as worshippers of God, we also need to be on mission for God, and how we need to stop shrinking God and His power – otherwise our lives can become joyless, because joy is a fruit of the spirit. Christian joy is not external – it is internal. If we look to other things for our joy – reputation, possessions, money – they will let us down, whereas God and the Holy Spirit never will. Dave continues his message about how Jesus is the bread of life by looking at John 6: 35-59. In this passage, Jesus questions people’s motives in pursuing Him. Are the people pursuing Jesus because He is the Son of God or because they are hungry? Jesus has performed miracles but the disciples are still looking for proof that they can believe in Him as the Son of God. Dave compares that to how we can be like that – “last week was good, God, but this week isn’t so good. Dave continues our series on ‘Who is Jesus’ by looking at John 6:1-9 and 22-40 and how Jesus is the bread of life. Just as we don’t get any benefit from bread unless we eat it, we don’t get any benefit from Jesus unless we believe in Him. That’s why God tells us that we must believe, know and trust in Jesus.
