Dave continues our “Who is Jesus?” series by looking at John 11:17-44. Dave looks at the story of Lazarus and reminds us that Jesus has a plan; He knows what’s ahead. We can trust Him. When we encounter God’s delays, it isn’t because He doesn’t love us. We are all affected by death – it is a shadow upon our lives. We need to be ready and have faith as we walk into those things. We shouldn’t accept death as something natural – it wasn’t God’s original purpose. Eternal life was. That’s why we struggle with it – because something in us rejects it. Instead of trying to accept death as something natural, we should: Grieve with faith and hope Know God’s love Accept God’s grace Questions to consider: 1. Sylvia continues our series looking at the different facets of Jesus’ personality by looking at how Jesus is the restorer of the kingdom of God. Jesus came not to share about faith, or preach, but to restore the kingdom of God. During the three years that Jesus preached, he only preached about the kingdom of God. When God created man, he had a plan. He wanted to bring His kingdom to earth. He created man in His own image and likeness to rule and dominate over every living thing. That is why He created every one of us. Genesis 1:26-28 (AMP): Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.” So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them. Denise continues our series on who Jesus was by looking at how Jesus is our good shepherd. Abraham was a shepherd and the patriarch of the Jewish nation. Moses tended his flock for 40 years before God asked him to go back and rescue his people. King David was a shepherd boy before he was a warrior and a king. Shepherds were the first to see the newborn baby Jesus. In John 10, Jesus says that he is our good shepherd, who lays down his life for the sheep. If a seed is not sewn then it remains a single seed, whereas if it dies and is sewn it becomes many seeds. In the same way, Jesus needed to die in order for his ministry to grow across the world. She urges us to say to God “We are yours. We trust ourselves to your sovereignty. Guest speaker, evangelist Mark Saunders, on how we are all called to be ambassadors for God – using ourselves as vessels for his word. That’s every single one of us – whatever we think of ourselves. We might think we’re not good enough to be used by God but that’s not true – that’s a lie that is coming straight from the devil. Mark reminds us that when God looks at us, he doesn’t just see the sin in us, he sees his son – Jesus. And his son says you’re enough! Rick talks about how, as Christians, we don’t have a physical home as such – Jesus himself is our home. Psalm 137 tells us that wherever we are, we can call it home and continue to worship God; we CAN still sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land. Guest speakers Graham and Charlotte Webb of Jubilee Church Liverpool on 10 years of the Jubilee Centre. Jubilee Church Wirral planted out from Jubilee Church Liverpool in 2003, meeting first in the Overton Community Centre and then Overchurch Junior School, before buying the former All Saints Church in 2013. After a lot of work, we opened it as The Jubilee Centre and started meeting here in Spring 2013, holding our official grand public opening on Sunday June 2nd 2013. Chris on being the salt of the earth and what that means Chris urges us to ask ourselves how salty we are and breaks the challenge of being salty down into three areas: Baptism, Prayer and Fellowship. Jesus was baptised, spent a lot of time in prayer and also spent a lot of time in fellowship with the disciples.
