This month, we are taking a look at blockbuster movies we have missed. Lauren takes Greg down the cult classic rabbit hole that is Blade Runner (The Final Cut). For the month of March we are paying tribute to Cloris Leachman. Lauren starts us off with the 1993 Olsen Twin film Double Double Toil and Trouble. As we explore this film and try to figure out why the 90s was the prime time for the Olsen Twins’ popularity, we also discuss campy magic rules, oblique racism and EXCESSIVE child endangerment at every turn. For Greg’s off-beat Rom-Coms he answers back Laurens pick with Mr. Right (2015) starring Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell. In this film about weirdos finding love, we discuss the importance of best friends, the possible existence of super powers, how a clown nose and keep you out of jail, and we officially hold our first session of Film Fixers where we try to solve the core problems this movie may have. In this month of February, we are taking a look at love gone wrong with off-beat Rom-Coms and Lauren starts us off with Mr. Wrong starring Ellen DeGeneres and Bill Pullman. For this disappointing sequel Greg shows Lauren Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). In these films with more comedic sitcom moments than super heroics, we discuss mid 2000s sexism and product placement, inconsistent clothing rules,  and how procrastinated character designs can ruin a potentially great sequel. We are starting off 2021 with Disappointing Double Features where the sequel failed to live up to the prestige of its predecessor and Lauren will start us off with Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile. We discuss what made Romancing the Stone such a great film and what was lost in translation for its sequel including flat character motivations, underwhelming romantic chemistry and a poorly utilized character/plot twist. Greg’s Alternative Holiday pick is Trapped in Paradise (1994) starring Nicholas Cage, Dana Carvey and John Lovitz. In this comedic tale of criminal brothers, we discuss the films gross misuse of its comedic talent, awful accents, and its half-written characters as Lauren tries to fix and even modernize this holiday flop with unpolished potential. For her holiday pick, Lauren gives Greg a helping of Mixed Nuts (1994). In this ensemble film chock full of comedy greats, we fawn over the great performances of Lieb Schriver and Madeline Kahn, applaud the film for being extraordinarily progressive for the mid 90s, and attempt to rewrite this movie that was ahead of its time for a potential modern remake. Lauren’s October pick is the home invasion film Hush (2016). In this nearly suspenseful film with a deaf protagonist, we discuss the super healing psychopaths, why minimalist films are just naturally better than others, and we argue over the home layout during the climax of this ‘silent’ film. In this Remake-Original Double Feature, Lauren finally got to see Mulan (2020) and Mulan (1998). Lauren is off to the races this month with National Velvet. In this early starring role for Elizabeth Taylor, we see the bond between a girl and her horse break new barriers.
