Oregon Update --The national debt is $1.2 trillion and growing and the federal government is proposing to raising the ceiling on the national debt which is similar to raising the credit limit on your credit card. Oregon Update -- Oregon State lawmakers are considering the option of amending the Constitution [House bill 3133] in order to allow the reinstatement of police Sobriety checkpoints in 1987, the Oregon Supreme Court barred police from conducting sobriety checkpoints claiming that the act was unconstitutional as you are detaining motorists without reasonable suspicion or probable cause. On today's show, veteran trucker "Crazy Man" and Robin we will be talking about the FMCSA's proposed new hours of service regulations. out of the millions of drivers on the road today, sadly only less then 5000 comments have been submitted so far. here is an example of some of the proposed changes... 34-hour restart Must include at least two periods between midnight and 6 a.m. a second restart cannot be taken any sooner than 168 hours (seven days) after the BEGINNING of the last restart. seven hours max driving time With required 30 minute break afterwards. 11 hour driving limit reduced to 10 hours the whole reason for the change is the perceived driver fatigue and need to pass the word around to other drivers to politely and to the point and let the FMCSA know that these changes are unnecessary and that they are really not addressing the real issues. Representative Jim DeMint of South Carolina was accused of creating a political stunt by wanting to force the Senate to read the 1900 page omnibus bill aloud apparently the tactic worked as Senate majority leader Harry Reid pulled the bill from consideration. a closer look at the bill revealed that the bill actually contained over 6000 items of earmarks to include items like $500,000 for Denver bike sharing, $500,000 for street scraping in Clark County, Indiana, etc. it was an attempt to try to pull the same thing that they did with the health-care bill hoping that our representatives were to lazy to do their job and therefore get the house to fund some of their pet projects however, this time it didn't work.
