    26/02/2020 Duración: 01h11min

[Original air date: 05.06.2010] Jim and Karen fight like cats and dogs over Burqas in the workplace. Karen thought it was fine. • Who owns your face?

    24/02/2020 Duración: 18min

Did you know that the average adult will be caught on camera (at least) a dozen times a day and if you live in a city then, you are caught on camera (at least 50 times) a day. More than 50% of Americans are in a database available to law enforcement and more than 25% of all police departments in the USA have used that database to solve a crime. All of that makes me wonder, who owns the rights to my face? Transcript, music and research related to this podcast can be found on JimStroud.com.

  • TRL: Government Fibs, No Need For H-1Bs and Recession Proof Jobs

    19/02/2020 Duración: 46min

[Original air date: 05.28.08] Jim is sleepy, but Karen is hyper as she rants about Government Fibs on the Labor Market. Guess where all the Recruiter jobs are? (At least those that are not in the USA) As much as you possibly can, spread the love to China (via the Red Cross). Why is Microsoft (and other big name brands) lobbying for more H-1Bs when there are so many Americans out of work? (What a debate that is.) | Find more great content at JimStroud.com

  • Do we need a law to mandate work-life balance?

    17/02/2020 Duración: 15min

Do we need a law to mandate work-life balance? In this episode, I discuss the “Right to Disconnect” bill being debated in New York City. Essentially, it says workers should not be required to answer emails or respond to work-related texts after official business hours. I also share insights from similar laws and business processes from around the world. Is this the future of work for the United States? If so, how will reducing work hours affect the bottom line? Tune in for a very interesting episode!

  • TRL: Layoffs, Salaries and Sex in Second Life

    12/02/2020 Duración: 38min

In this "Retro Lounge" episode: Karen is all doom and gloom about the economy, while Jim looks for the silver lining for Recruiters suffering from the econoclypse (get it? like the apocolypse?); by referring them to different industries to recruit for. Or at least Jim tries to, Karen won’t let him speak. Plus, Jim and Karen discuss a rather bizarre, sad, but true story of sex in Second Life. It seems that even in a recession, there is at least one industry that is still doing well. (Guess which one it is.

  • Does increasing automation decrease salaries?

    10/02/2020 Duración: 14min

If automation can eliminate certain tasks for a certain worker by X percent then, should that worker have his compensation reduced accordingly? I debate the issue in this episode.  Resources related to this podcast can be found on JimStroud.com.

  • TRL: I Spy for the EEOC

    05/02/2020 Duración: 38min

This episode, entitled "I Spy for the EEOC," originally aired July 25, 2006. And this was the episode description:  Jim Stroud and Karen Mattonen discuss the legalities of buying a company directory, give props to Linked In and discuss the work of “testers,” phony job applicants on the hunt for discriminatory practices. (Bad companies beware!) And did you know that resume writers have to be bonded? Visit JimStroud.com for more info related to this podcast.

  • Just Say No To a Robot Tax

    02/02/2020 Duración: 16min

Just say no to a robot tax! It may sound good in terms of protecting the American workers but, its more trouble than what its worth. I explain why in this episode. Visit JimStroud.com for additional info related to this podcast.  Music in this podcast: Finally by Loxbeats https://soundcloud.com/loxbeats Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 Free Download: http://bit.ly/FinallyLoxbeats Music promoted by Audio Library https://youtu.be/fGquX0Te1Yo

  • TRL: Sex at the office! Is it a wonderful thing?

    29/01/2020 Duración: 21min

[Original air date: 12.10.08] Jim and Karen have dubbed this episode “The Sex show” and this is why:  Doctors say that office parties bring unwanted pregnancies and STDs. (Who knew it was such a busy season for them?) Plus, a Hilton employee walks in on a (literal) orgy of Hilton company execs, informs HR and gets fired. She is now suing for the big bucks. Tune in for one of the weirdest podcasts yet. | Visit JimStroud.com for info related to this podcast.

  • The Future of Food Service

    27/01/2020 Duración: 12min

The food automation trend of robots and automation taking your orders, creating your food and serving it in some futuristic fashion, promised a win-win scenario for customers and restaurant owners alike. So, what has been the ROI? I explore the realities and determine that robots and automation can boost productivity at restaurants but cost a company profits if not enough people are involved.  Visit JimStroud.com to read the transcript and view the music credits.

  • TRL: Should Executive Pay Be Regulated?

    22/01/2020 Duración: 34min

Jim Stroud and Karen Mattonen discussed the issue of Executive Pay. Should it be regulated? Jim says NO! Karen (of course) says Yes! An argument begins that lasts waaay longer than it should have, then Lance Haun of HRM Today adds his views and then things get really heated. All this and more, in another action-packed flashback episode of The Recruiters Lounge podcast. | Original air date: August 5, 2009.

  • How many ways can you sue a recruiter?

    20/01/2020 Duración: 57min

I am substituting my regularly scheduled episode of "The Jim Stroud Podcast" for this special reunion episode. A little over a decade ago, I co-hosted "The Recruiters Lounge Podcast" with my pal - Karen Mattonen. Tune in and hear Karen and I discuss ethics in recruiting and what recruiters can learn from the real estate industry.

  • The Retro Lounge - How To Make Money with Online Job Scams

    15/01/2020 Duración: 23min

THE RETRO LOUNGE: Today's episode, "HOW TO MAKE MONEY WITH ONLINE JOB SCAMS," originally aired on March 27, 2009. And in this episode we discussed a recruiter who was facing possible time in jail for charging job seekers a fee for finding them work. Is what he did actually illegal? Was it really a scam, or was it just a badly executed business plan? You may be surprised. | Special thanks to PureACV for sponsoring this episode. www.pureacv.com

  • Is Corporate Wellness a Good Thing? I'm not so sure...

    13/01/2020 Duración: 16min

Corporate wellness programs are in the mainstream and they are intended to be a win-win situation for the company and the employee. For the most part, such seems to be the case. However, the road to hell is paved with good intentions and the programs intended to bless could become a curse. In this episode, I speculate on the possibilities. | Transcript and resources discussed in this podcast are available at JimStroud.com

Christmas time is here! And in addition to celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ with song and merriment, there is also the sharing of gifts to those you love and / or at least, tolerate. One thing you might not be aware of though, is depending on the gift you are giving, you may be inviting danger to the gift recipient; things like identity theft and home invasions. What do I mean by that? Stay tuned and find out. / Links to all the resources cited and music used in my podcast can be found at JimStroud.com
