The crowds in Boston were in full effect in the rain. No weather can hold the residents of Boston inside. Richie talks about some added carbs at the bottom of Heartbreak Hill. She talks about the challenges of how traveling from Kentucky to China with a bike for an international race in hopes of getting the coveted slot for the Big Island. She mentions, the language barrier among other things leading to a very confused bike mechanic. However, they manage to find a compromise and allow her to have the best possible chance for success. She also mentions the wonderful wildlife and how even the insects want to love on people when you’re there. She also mentions the different atmosphere of racing in another country with regards to the raining and lightning. This race was filled with many pitfalls, obstacles, and barriers to overcome. Michael has a solid race overall and goes into the details of traveling from further away to this race. He has a ton of fun on the race course and enjoys the challenge of the day but passes on some key tips for getting his bike down to the race site and even how to have some fun. He talks about hanging out with Big Sexy Racing and enjoyed being in the team atmosphere. He has a great amount of experience racing as he has completed more than 40-70.3’s and in 2015 he was selected to race Kona for a national charity, Children’s Tumor Foundation. In this humbling experience he was able to raise more than $40,000 for children in need of assistance. This allows him to have a fair assessment of the course and give some solid feedback of this course. Rachel raced her first professional race in Galveston this year and the compilation of Galveston 70.3 race experiences would not be complete without her knowledge. While she has nearly a dozen 70.3s under her belt, every race is different and every race day is unique. Texas 70.3 was no different this year as it brought colder conditions than expected. The big take away from this episode is to never change things mid race, such as a plan to wear or not wear specific things. She is being coached by world renowned triathlete and motivational speaker Siri Lindley. For this race she chose to step out of her comfort zone in every way possible and just go for it. The race day temperature was mid 40s on the bike and warmed up slightly for the run. Water temperature this year was 69 degrees and wetsuit legal. She has also completed Seven Marathons on Seven Continents. Kitty talks about some details of how the travel and logistics went as she traveled from the United States down to Mexico and the adjustments she would make in the future for this race. Kitty is from Wisconsin and being this is an earlier season race that tends to be warm, there were some issues she conquered along the day on the course. She talks about her nutrition plan and the challenges she faced. In the end she walked away with a slot for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship down in South Africa. She highly recommends getting out of your comfort zone.
